  • you can also use pencils if you dont have 2 pointed needles! just sharpen both sides!

  • This is great, Im learning to knit socks and find this lesson helpful. I wonder though, what size needles you are using?

  • @girlinacafeblog Hi there, if you click through to the pattern (linked in the video notes), you'll see that we use size 5 double-pointed needles with Wool-Ease, which is a category 4 (medium) weight yarn. As with all patterns though, you should check your gauge and use bigger or smaller needles to get the gauge specified.

  • Thank you, that was slow and useful for a beginner to udnerstand. I get that there might be variations, but it's a good beginning. I'm trying to make a first pair now :)

  • Thank you for taking the time to teach us. Keep up the good work!

  • is there no ways of knitting sox for beginners with only two needles?

  • @KenyanPlayboyBunnie1 You can knit socks flat, but keep in mind that you will have to seam them. Some people find seams uncomfortable, but it is a personal preference. We don't have any two needle patterns, you can try an online search to find some great patterns. Good luck on your search! We hope you enjoy sock knitting!

  • @LionBrandYarn thank you for pointing use beginners in the right direction :-)

  • @KenyanPlayboyBunnie1 thanks for asking the same thing I was thinking!!! ha ha ha I am on the hunt to try knitting socks using only two needles as well :-) off to google this and search about knitting socks flat as Lion brand yarn has called it.

  • This should come in hand if I ever wanted to make socks

    :D

  • wtf is this D:

it is so hard to just make a freaking sock....

I love people the make them for us, because they go through the torturing

i am sorry for wearing socks now :[

  • @DemDemOrgy you shouldnt feel sorry

it just seems hard when you start off, but with practice, it gets easy with practice just like everything else : )

  • @DemDemOrgy there is such a thing as making the process automatic...

  • thi is very tricky, im doing it now. waiting for the big picture to come into play. very stressful

  • hello,

I don't know why anyone would fiddle with trying to join w/o twisting ?

I knit the cuff 2 inches or what is needed flat , starting with a 6 inch tail .

    THEN join.. SO much easier.

Later I go back and seam up the cuff with the 6 inch tail.

    works like a charm.

  • this video sucks

  • Hi! i just want to thank u so much!! i have been looking for good videos and finally found one. Ihad a problem with how to start nitting a sock and now i know!!

  • "Cast on" and that's it? Casting on using the right method is really important for cuff down socks... After all, you don't want to finish the entire sock and notice that your standard cable cast on isn't stretchy enough to get your foot into.

  • The presenter speaks well, but no matter what, knitting with double pointed needles looks scary and confusing - how do you keep them organized and keep your work from twisting? I feel lost just looking at those things.

  • Thank you CrlJean & barbarabobo--your advice is really helpful. I've noticed that many of today's "johnny-come-lately" knitting "experts" and "designers" really don't have much knowledge or experience with the craft of knitting.

  • At first thought the comments for this video were harsh. Unfortunately this video makes starting a sock look much harder than it needs to be. For example: instead of slipping all the stitches to double point needles before starting the first row, I cast on to a straight, larger needle and then knit off that needle onto double points. It makes my first round much simpler. I also cast on an additional stitch. I slip the 1ST stitch and then knit it TOGETHER with my LAST stitch to tighten the join.

  • @CrlJean That sounds like great advice! I haven't knitted socks yet, but when I do I will take your advice about starting with one long straight needle and then knitting onto dpns as I do the first round. I wish I could visualize slipping the first stitch and then knitting it together, but I am sure I will find that info somewhere on you tube...or elsewhere.

  • @CrlJean You should make a video.

  • At point 2:54 or thereabouts, the instructor picks up the needles and they splay around.... very confusing for the viewer. When I teach this, I lay the work down with the needle with the working yarn on the right and the needle to be joined on the bottom, then the student can see the square work and make sure the work is not twisted. I have never had a student fail with this as it is so clear. The first few rows are the most challenging, more color contrast would help as well.

  • There is no such word as casted. The past tense is cast.

  • Thanks for that. I get so tired of people adding "ed" to words that don't need it for the past tense.

  • The sound keeps breaking up and makes the instructions hard to follow

  • When the video starts, put it on pause until it has finish downloading and you can watch it after without interruption. I hope this helps you. ;)
