The problem with Ethiopia is that they'll need to consequences if they attempt to divert water. Instead the nation should begin to invest in more radical water conservation methods and attempt to increase it's political power, vs. Egypt. A significant change from Egypt is obviously not possible.
I hope the new generation of Egyptians sees sense in using the water fairly. That really isn't much to ask. If Egypt's current stance continues, other countries will simply sidestep Egypt and go on with their utilization (as they're already doing.) The question is, what will Egypt do now? As a nutral, the only way forward for the Egyptians and Sudanese is to start paying for the Nile Water to the up stream countries (i.e Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya..etc)!! & here is how they would be able to implement it.
1.) Egypt genrates a revenues of 4.5 billion dollars per yr from Suez Canal & I believe it is about time they used that money & pay 85% of the revenue to Ethiopia since 85% of the Nile Water comes from Ethiopia & the reminder to be shared between Uganda, Kenya, Congo, Rwanda..etc.

I believe Egypt has every right to use the Nile as much as Ethiopia has, but one thing i don't understand what Egypt and Sudan says is that, they wanted to keep the treaty signed in the 1929 by Egypt and the British (representing the colonial countries in the upper nile) but, Ethiopia wasn't a colony, so how comes this applies to us? in 1959 Egypt and Sudan signed another agreement without Ethiopia, so where is our fault? How can we accept something we didn't signed for?

@antikackz. Aid doesn't promote growth. That is pretty obvious even in Egypt, where the more flexible US aid hasn't done that. The problem with Ethiopia is that they'll need to consequences if they attempt to divert water. Instead the nation should begin to invest in more radical water conservation methods and attempt to increase it's political power, vs. Egypt. A significant change from Egypt is obviously not possible.

If Egypt's current stance continues, other countries will simply sidestep Egypt and go on with their utilization (as they're already doing.) The question is, what will Egypt do now? All attempts backed by Egypt to bring countries like Ethiopia to a status of failed states have pretty much failed. Any military action by Egypt will only bind the people at the horn closer and stronger.
