@SMCVoter; ask whomever wrote Holober's quote as far as what department it is. He won't say, either because he doesn't really know, or it's some tiny, highly paid office like the County Counsel -lawyers- or public health -doctors.
And once again, working class people are NOT special interests. Wall Street firms, big oil companies, and greedy insurance companies are special interests. Peace officers risk their lives EVERY DAY to protect the public. That's not a special interest, that a high risk job that you probably wouldn't dare even try to do.
@dante116 Deputy sheriffs are well paid and deserve it, but their contracts our out of control. They are paid 7% higher than their peers in any other bay area county, and pension costs are 70% of payroll. They should not have a stipulation in their contracts that guarantee them to the highest paid in the bay area. You really have to question any candidate they spend $40,000 to pump up.
Hey Holober fanboys, you are misquoting your own candidate. The deputy sheriff's don't have pensions costing 70% of payroll. Holober said "One department has only 8.5% of the County’s employees, but it racks up 23% of the entire County’s pension costs - with pensions that cost taxpayers 70 cents on top of every payroll dollar." NOT the deputies.
@rootedsorrow You got a problem with SM Deputy Sheriffs who make $130,000 a year, have pensions that cost us taxpayers 70% on top of their payroll, and who gave Papan $40,000 for this campaign? Greed is good. It's the American Way!
No wonder Dave Pine can afford to send all those cliche mailers to voters...he dumped $430,000 of his own money into his campaign!! Looks like we got a wannabe Meg Whitman in this race!
@hyemazda You sound just like Meg Whitman. You think workers are special interests and self-funded gazillionaires are the public interest. Business lawyer Pine helped two companies go broke. Over 1000 local workers lost their jobs but Pine walked away with a bag full of loot. A real "man of the people". - rich people, that is.
Pine just won!! Excellent!!

@dante116 Then what department is it?
SMCVoter 10 months ago
I just voted for Richard Holober. Pine and Papan make me sick, and Nagel doesn't seem to be trying to win. I never heard of the other two.

You forget that Mike Bloomberg became Mayor of NYC. He's a billionaire.

At least Dave Pine wasn't endorsed by the corrupt and criminal deputies of the San Mateo Sheriff's office, as Papan was.

Dave Pine is a one man special interest. A rich corporate lawyer who retired at age 44 to become a perennial politician.
WolfWinston 10 months ago
At least Dave pays his own way and makes his own decision. Not like other candidates who have special interest pay for it.
Dave Pine got my vote.
