  • My wife and I saw John Denver in concert one month before his passing. We sat in the second row at Cape Cod Melody Tent. I will never forgot the kindness he showed to a handicapped women next to us as he passed by, to go on stage. He has been a hero of mine since I was learning guitar in Junior High , back in 1974.

  • This song will live forever! God bless John !

  • i remember jd how he loves nature

  • Why can't people be gentle and kind to each other like the messages in John's music? This poor world needs you now more than ever. The angels are with you my brother.

  • one of the songs sang at my bro's memorial service years ago, he was 19 and him being gone still sucks

  • Is anyone getting chills while listening to this perfect guitar player and to his beautiful voice?

  • Awesome song, luv it, incredible song.

  • :)

  • "It is here we must begin to seek the wisdom of the children and the graceful way of flowers in the wind. For the children and the flowers are my sisters and my brothers. Their laughter and their loveliness would clear a cloudy day."

We are one with Nature. Let us love ourselves, each other and the planet.

  • Remind me of my father, my little sister who pass away. Thank you John. One day we will meet all our cherished ones.

  • i know there are many great singers but according to me none was so great and pure and beautiful as this man.. love you and always will john..

  • @charubak1 The key word is pure; his heart was as big as the outdoors he loved so. Never one to "Preach Hatred" only Peace. His music and spirit will be with us forever.

  • this song ...performed by John Denver itself is so good to hear......legend....

  • Yeppers....!!!

  • love this song just makes you happy no matter how sad or down you are wish this man was still around. amazing

  • Wow!Let`s enjoy the tranquility that this artist is helping us to find. Politics be damned.

  • Here's a tip Patty Doh! If you're gonna' give an opinion then say something really stupid it kinda' drags everything you say down to stupid!

  • I did not personally meet John Denver but it did seem to kind of person I could get along with, with an old soul understanding & I think he would of been pleased to see Barak as President of your country Ilive in the UK we think both JD &Barak are both cool. I was sadenned by the news of JD's death a few years ago I loved his music it seemed to talk to my soul & nourish it somehow.

  • that must have been some shower! I sure do miss John Denver.

  • Absolutely love this song.

  • whats really weird... the glitch in this video is basically the same glitch on my old cassette, as well as the 8-track... same place... just found it sort of odd that heat and over play would effect the exact same places.

  • For Norway...Our thoughts are with you...love Canada xo

  • @pattydoe123 .... John was a very gifted singer, speaking and most of all his writing ability and knowledge of music..... I too sit up till the early hours of the morning listening to his music and that of the Judith Durham (Seekers) as all their music has meaning to them......

  • One of my favorites of John's work. Love the timeless and meaningful lyrics. Thank you for sharing. Yes, I miss John and his ability to connect and to express so beautifully through song. See you later, John :)

  • John's music brings me back to the 60's& 70's when we didn't have a lot but were happy. Vacation was camping in Vermont every summer where we sat around the campfire at night singing these songs.

  • This motivated me to take a shower...

  • has always been my favorite JD song. inspiring and uplifting and great guitar. I love the 12-string finger picking which he always did so well. if you play guitar not an easy task. sure do miss you...

  • i agree jay. there is no alike\

  • God, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written...he may not of had the best singing voice (not) but the vibrato in his voice makes up for any negatives. He could sing, write, and play guitar...that's a positive for me compared to the crap that is played today!! I miss you John!!!!

  • "The children and the flowers are my sisters and my brothers." My favourite line from a song.

  • Read the words and there is no denying "greatness" voice like a 'bell!" Loved him especially 'in concert...' "We can find a better way..."

    Gary Holt

  • He wrote this in the shower???? this is one of my favorite songs!! LOL

Wow, this is a profound song!!! That must have been some shower!!

  • A voice and a guitar. No auto-tune. No high-tech production. Beautiful. This song gets me choked up every time. Thanks, John.

  • one of a kind. beautiful and greatly missed.

  • man given to us by the lord and taken to soon-but his music still touches us deep-god bless the man and his gift

  • 4 people are muslim

  • @oooooo386 why is it that dislikers are such noobs?..

  • @oooooo386 why is it that dislikers are such noobs?.. they first dislike, then leave a blatant response about other dislikers in vein of religion/race comments.

How in the GREEN hell, does this song have anything that would only offend muslims?

Jdenver was an atheist, so does that mean, if i have a different faith, i wont listen to his songs even if they are such well written and sung?

    Really, Grow up...

  • The world today needs people like him

  • I miss him more than anyone else I've never known.

  • Beautiful song. They broke the mold.

  • Late Stan Cat (RIP) from Unit 5, Chatsworth, Durban, South Africa..man you are my hero. I used to hear you play Denver's songs and you were great man. I know your family may never see this but man you will know what I mean. Love musicand Love the local heroes who spread the Rock Gospel

  • Many years ago we saw John in concert in Louisville KY. Our seats were on the top row of the arena, yet when he sang this song, you felt you were on the front row. May you forever rest in peace.

  • interessante, che dal vivo è quasi uguale alla versione studio!

    grazie a chi l'ha postata.

  • This song speaks volumes to those that are seeking a better life, that want what is or should be a common truth among all people.

  • God, I miss him, but he left so much great music in his legacy!!!!

  • eerie connections to the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. "cities start to crumble, towers fall around us," and "written in the desserts" etc. still one of my favorites, thanks for the post.

  • I love this song so much that I wrote a flute harmony part to this that is absolutely beautiful. I will be performing it with folk group here in Northern Illinois.

  • @keztar Where can we hear it?!!

  • I love John 's music. He was an amazing singer songwriter & performer. God bless Mr John Denver

  • My trio does this song and it's one of our most requested: It sends shivers through me when I sing the lines about towers falling, knowing JD wrote them nearly 40 years before the Towers really did fall.

    Amazing writing!

  • I love John Denver and I am happy to find videos with a better sound. Still looking for Forest Lawn... And so it goes... In fact he got the death he wished for... Anyway he will be always alive through his songs for me. Thank you for your videos!

  • One of his best concerts . .

  • love this song...love it...makes me cry, but worth the tears.

  • It breaks my heart that we will never have the pleasure of seeing him in person again. I heard him under the stars at Red Rock, which will always be one of my very favorite memories. How wise he was in his poetry.

  • Glitch minor. I remember why I loved this song as much the first time around.

  • John's music is amazing. I feel like he was a kindred spirit. It almost scares me how much his music aligns with my life and the lives of so many others.

There too many coincidences to name.

    1. He died on my birthday

    2. I would rather be in Colorado, I'd rather play my banjo in the morning when the moon is scarcely gone.

3 He fervently loved mountains and so do I

4 I was born in "Denver" Colorado

5 I grew up in "almost heaven" West Virginia

    Scary, but also comforting.

  • Am too is an islander from the mountain range of the Cordillera Region here in the Philippines..i love john Denver's songs..so sad that he was taken by our God early,he could have shared more of his one of a kind songs...

  • though i'm from the other side of the Pacific. I'm an islander living here in the Philippines, for me hearing John Denver's voice makes feel i'm soaring high over the rocky mountains of Colorado. I love all his songs.

  • I'm not sure which existed first, but does the verses sound a bit like Paul Stookey's "Wedding Song"? Or did he write this song relatively before that song was released?

  • @LelouchLamperouge019 hi, I also observe that theres lit'l bit the same w/ paul Stookeys " there is love"

  • I have been a John Denver fan since the age of five. In 1976, my parents brought only his 8 tracks on a three-month trip out west. We visited just about every National Park from Michigan to the west coast and it felt like he was singing just to us. I always have a JD CD in my car, and just after 9/11 I was playing this song and I could not believe how close the lyrics matched what I was feeling. It sounds crazy, but listen one more time and see what you think.

  • After all these yrs of searching for this song I saw on Kenyan TV in the 80s I have found it. Its amazing.

  • awesome vid. I am Jay Redleaf... inspired by John Denver. See my vid.

  • I saw John for the first time the first summer he went solo at the Carter Barron. Amphitheater in Washington DC. Mary Travers was headlining and it was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. I will always love his music.

  • wROTE IN THE SHOWER...LOL.......he was a music genus!

  • I so love that era......John singing his beautiful music as I hiked thru the beautiful mountains of Colorado.....Colorado has to be a heaven on earth....I left my love there in Crested Butte so many tearful years ago......I still cry when I hear "This Old Guitar".....somehow it zooms me back to such a glorious time in my life...full of energy and love...I'm sixty now...in the autumn of my life....but memory's live on, I love you Nidia...!!!

  • I saw John in Kansas City....must have been very early in the 70's....right after "Rocky Mountain High" & "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" came out......I'm so proud to have seen him when he was so young and new to his fame, it was only himself and his bass player Dick Kniss....my God how he infIuenced my love of the mountains and all of nature and our beautiful planet, whenever I look at my hiking boots of that era, I can't help but think of Aspen, Annie & Sunshine on my Shoulder, RIP John

  • What a genius and humanitarian. We miss you JD, you brought a ray of sunshine into so many lives and your genius talent will stay with us forever. The songs tell it all. R.I.P

  • I was lucky enough to see John live in Arizona in 1988 and also at the Albert Hall in London. One of the few artists who could hit the high notes just as well live as on a recording. But I think more than being a very talented singer he had the ability to put across ideas and feelings to his audience and making you believe the world can be a better place. In Arizona in the interval of a 3-hour concert he stayed on stage to talk about the Windstar Foundation while sucking a throat lozenge

  • OHHHH cryin me heart out now!!

  • my family thinks John could not sing.......well....they sure are wrong. not only did he have the gift of singing, he had the gift of speaking. I have sat here somrtimes ti 2 am just listening to him talk. to bad he did not run for pres. he would of won hands down.......and at least he could of shown a birth cert. to the USA

  • @pattydoe123 The comment about the birth cert. surely isn't needed, and is irrlevant to JD's message, don't you think?

  • @pattydoe123 It's not how good his voice was that made him so good, it's what he sang, and how. From the heart and with complete belief... He didn't have the best voice in the world, but it was so clear and pure...My favourite has always been Rocky Mountain High, but if you want to listen to him speak, and it's possibly one of the most poignant things I've ever heard, listen to 'The Box'... can't remember which LP it's off now (either R & R or P,P & P), but it's amazing....

  • @wolfman7421 i agree the box was nothing short of amazing..... ive heard the recording so many times i can hear it w/o the album..... it was on PP&P

  • @pattydoe123 I played John so much my mom gave her John Denver's Greatest Hits LP to me and told me to play it quiet but I did not.

  • @pattydoe123 ,states:

"at least he could of shown a birth cert. to the USA"

Ya mean, just like our President showed the country, time and time again? That kind of birth certificate? One thing I know for sure about JD is, he woulfd NOT have been so disrespectful to President Obama, and he most certainly would have welcomed his leadership of the country. John was like that.

  • @Kburgboy fuck you cock goblin

that wasn't a birth certificate in case you didn't know, the original "birth certificate" released by the whitehouse was taken off because people found out it was made on an adobe program

  • un grande! bellissima canzone

  • Amazing song .....We all miss JD.....very soothin

  • I still miss this genius man ... my savior, By that i mean Johns music of which i swear got me through a very difficult time in my teens, and a few more after that. God bless the memory and spirit of this angle lent to us for a brief time

  • This song brings a tear to my eye. I would have loved to see him before I die.

  • @snerddarplol I saw him 23 times - you really missed a GREAT musiocian (and not a bad juggler also!!!) Go to Aspen the second week of October - it is John Denver week and there are several that play his music very well at the Wheeler Opra House. They are NOT imitators they are people that really like Denver's music. It is as close as you are going to get!!! Good Luck!!!

  • His brilliance will shine forever,I have never seen his light but I will remain blinded forever.

  • hello... im Archt. Marlowe A. Domingo United Architects of the Philippines, from san mariano isabela. im merried, loving and understanding.. this is the rhymes and reason of my life.... thank you john Denver you've given me inspiration...

  • "... in the colours of the rainbow there's the promise for the future and the blessing for today"

    Grazie per questo verso.

    Ciao John

  • Thought the human form may not be among us , John's spirit will live in all of us who believed in what he stood for .

Thank you John you have truly blessed my life

  • Amen! God bless us all and God bless John Denver for filling our hearts with happiness and hope for a peaceful unified tomorrow. =]

  • Give me his first recordings any day. I learned to play the guitar to his early songs. God bless him.

  • Such a loss for all of us. His music is timeless. God Bless you John, thanks for the music ♪♫♪♫♥♥

  • "Except you become as a little child you shall not enter the kingdom of Heaven.." Jesus the Christ.

  • One of my favorites-I, too, hope to sing with him in God's choir!

  • If John Denver's music isn't proof that Jesus is real, then nothing is. A truly great man.

  • a beautiful song that brings back a lot of memories.....

  • This is probably my favorite of all his songs

  • I had the privilege of seeing JD live 5 times over the years, & was devastated when he died.

His music & lyrics can only be described as pure poetry.....just beautiful.

I miss him & what could have been musically...RIP John :'(

  • Every couple has a song, this is ours. The very first time we heard it, shortly after we were married in 1974, it became our song for life. When we die and go to heaven, we're going to find John and ask him to sing it for us.

  • @262990592k That is a beautiful comment. I saw John when I was ten years old, twenty years ago this autumn...the night I fell in love with live music and knew I'd see the Rockies and Aspen before I was 30! I still come back to his music over and over and still cry cos he is gone.

  • There are no simple words to describe this man, RIP John.

  • Just John and his guitar. The absolute best. Thanks so much for sharing this loveliness with us.

  • Powerful... thanks for posting!

  • This is one of my favorites. The best voice ever. Miss him a lot. A very great man....Love ya John

  • I know of someone who thinks the same way SShammah does... but I pray it'll never come so early, though an eagerly encounter... John Denver will never cease to be...

  • What an angelic voice. Just heavenly!

  • John Denver is tied in my mind with the muppets and a better place in time.

  • He Is just great !!!! We seem to all agree!!!

  • When I see him singing here I feel he is still with us. I suppose he always will be with his song and his humor, but most especially with his love. RIP, John.

  • I remember back at the age of 16 playing John's songs on a friends porch, when we played this song, it was very hard to keep a dry eye amongst all who were there. Now at 52 I still have that same feeling. We miss you John, thanks for the music, we really need it now as well as then. Blessings all...

  • As I sit here and listen to John ...... I just realized my 2 favorite singers have the same initials J D John Denver and Judith Durham ... I just can not believe how these 2 singers have touched my life ... and John I have followed since 1970 and he is greatly missed .... yes greatly missed ... you were a wonderful singer with songs that have a lot of meaning... God Bless You ....

  • Thank You for sharing this Video. JD is amazing, he melts my heart with love and tears. God is very unfair, always takes the best once.

  • thanks to my sister i've been hooked on john denver since i was 8 or 9 now i'm 35

  • John Denver lives on! ! ! !

  • One of my very favorite JD songs!

  • He was truth, he was goodness, he was purity. He is part of my utopian chlldhood and he will always be with me. Thank you for sharing yourself with the world, John. RIP. With love....

  • @Shifraeliezar Oh my, but I miss John....this is my all time favorite song. "Come and stand beside us, we can find a better way"......

  • John Denver is one of the great singer / songwriter in the world. So sad that his life is so short. I love him....I love all his songs, it's my life all these years. Thanks for sharing this video, please upload more.

  • This song makes me cry every time I listen to it.

There will never be another John Denver and it's sad.

  • John was so much ahead of his time...when the towers fall around us...that's happened...John has always been a vision of hope to me...I miss you John

  • Thank You Thank You

  • were are you john ????????

  • @TheMrAnghel

He's in God's Music Pavillion. I hope to meet you there one day. Never give up hope for that day.

  • Ahhh - Thats so sweet lakelady!

  • Just amazing. My parents used to listen to this song, and I pretended not to notice, but I did and It will stay with me ,forever.

  • love this and all of John's songs,he's greatly missed! Thanks for sharing!

  • One of his best......RIP

  • Can anyone tell me the 12 string guitar he preferred?

I am always moved by his songs. The only other song to compare would be Noel Paul Stookly from Peter, Paul, and Mary fame, "The Wedding Song" or sometimes referred to as "Where there is Love". Check it out also! Sounds similar.

  • @gliderrider His older guitars (like the one you see here), were Guilds. Later, he played Taylors. Notice his old Yamaha in the background - that's the guitar you see on the Muppett's Xmas LP.

  • He was dropped by Guild in the 80's- when he was also dropped by RCA. All around the same time- BUT JD probably did chuckle a little when Guild ended up going bankrupt. THINK maybe they got just a tad of good advertising by JD playing their guitars- hum?? Just guessing but yea probably so!!!!

  • @gliderrider The Guild he's playing on this vid is the one JD bought back in the 60s, a near-twin to my guitar bud's. Later on, it was largely replaced for his stage shows bya custom Yamaha.

  • I miss him....

But i am very happy, that John Adams the music of John Denver will sing with his heart , soul, guitar and with his beautiful voice. So on this way,the music of John Denver will keep alive.........

  • My lovely ex-wife bought tickets for my Mom, and us for her birthday.

It was the best present my Mom ever got.

He did the whole show by himself, it was the best consert I've ever seen.

When my Mom passed on I had them play Sunshine on my shoulder...

    It was her favorite.

  • I miss you David.

  • la canzone più commovente che abbia mai sentito

  • Una delle mie canzoni preferite, addio John prosegui il tuo cammino

  • Was lucky enough to see him live @ Wembly & Southampton.

    Sadly missed.

  • My dad loved John Denver & I grew up on his lovely music. My younger brother(aged 7 in 1975) used to sing out to his songs & his voice would resonate around Liverpool......happy memories indeed! cheers John.

  • Yes, I too am a Colorado guy (Estes Park) and was fortunate to see JD perform twice. The best part was always when the band went off stage and it was just him and the guitar. This is where he could really shine through. He was not only an excellent composer/singer, but a great guitarist (seldom mentioned!). I'm fond of saying that his songs provided the soundtrack for our growing up in and around Rocky Mountain National Park. Each summer my brother, Brad Fitch, does several JD tribute concerts.

  • I was lucky to see him in concert too. Greatly missed, but that voice!

  • So well put, yes he continues to bless us through his music. So talented in writing, his trained voice, and his wonderful guitar melodies. I have seen John on stage four times, and each time was different. I loved the way he talked to his audience as if each member were a good friend. What a gift to this world, John Denver.

  • Comment removed

  • I meant to give this a BIG Thumbs UP, Jardinami, but somehow accidentally hit the thumbs down. I could not agree more with your comments. JD's music/life has certainly made mine much better.

  • Johns guitar playing has always held me mesmorised. Watching him play his 12 string so masterfully was for me as wonderful as hearing his beautiful voice ... It kind of seduces you, if that makes sense

  • beautiful song my parents had john denver songs played at their wedding and i love his music

  • Oh, that glitch. Still great!

  • RUtripNcuz there is such a thing as too much information... anyway. this is the best song I've ever heard:D

  • He wrote this in the shower? That couldn't have been very good for the guitar. I was born in Colorado and my mom was a big John Denver fan. His music will always remind me of my innocent early chhildhood in Boulder.

  • I got to see John LIVE three times and this video is from one of the tours that I saw. It was magnificent. Notice how just John's voice and the 12-string guitar FILL UP the arena with a wall of sound. Amazing sound form 1 voice and 1 guitar.

  • As a teacher, I think this song says it all. It takes a village to support and raise our children, we can do better.

  • I sat at Myrtle Beach and listened to this song while enjoying a gentle breeze.

  • Great songwriter remembered!

  • When John died we all got together at the park and sang his songs;his second grade teacher from ft.Worth was even there; they will be singing his songs forever now...

  • oldobbie, Sadly the man is gone but his music will survive for all time.

  • Mr Denver has always inspired my love for the Mountains and nature. His music rings out in the winds of time. He died foolishly But lived greatly. I too like the rest of you miss him and his life.

  • So many memories.....

So many things without any reason.....

    I love this music!!!

  • what a Voice, "one of a kind"... your music has always "affected" me Greatly, STILL does... makes me "go back" to the 70's when I was a kid growing up and you were one of my greatest musical influences... your music makes me feel good, brings back many good memories... TRULY Beautiful... I miss you John...

  • we miss you John.............

  • his music is truly beautiful....I wish ppl could write songs like that now! I wonder if they'll remember John Denver in the future....

  • his voice was truley a gift from god .ccs

  • He sings in God's choir now, I can't wait to sing with him.

  • same.

  • @SShammah

    For sure..!

  • @SShammah That's beautiful

  • His poetry is beyond compare and when you add the music...you see heaven. One of my favorite lines from song was not written by John Denver but his songs and poetry are the total essence of this line..................To love another person is to see the face of God.............

  • I absolutley love this song!
