Sounds like an egomaniac or a narcissist who is very insecure & in love with a girl, but he needs to control her & keep her from being free out of lack of love for himself. Her light/love inside her keeps him alive & brightens his life because he's dead inside, he feeds off her like a host, so he has to keep her where he needs her through abusing her or he may fall to pieces himself.
@pvsg1990 I don't know about that; a few of the member of Rammstein, most often Flake, say they miss the simplicity of their lives in West Germany. And this seems to paint a pretty negative picture of whatever they're talking about.
that the best about music every one sees it diffrent we all have great ideas on what it could all mean till you set down and ask them in person what there song is about its a good form of art like a great painting we all see the same picture but feel it to mean something compared to us all inside
We translated this song in German Class in 7th grade...My parents were shocked by the lyrics and complained about my German teacher. For ME it was the first stone in the wall of LOVE FOR METAL!! \m/
@ReneeKana I did English homework for that story while listening to this song. It took a while for the huge irony to hit me. And now for the obligatory reference: "For the love of God, Montresor!"
About the whole abuse thing... let me remind you that songs - great songs in particular - tend to have a symbolic meaning within their lyrics.
Also, if it was in English, most of today's fans probably wouldn't be interested in it. Rammstein is Rammstein only in German imo... and yes, I do speak German, but I thought more people would understand me in English, so yeah...

With all these amazing bands all over the world from many different time periods I've never had the comfort to give a song the title of "my favorite song".
I'm going to be suddle and say this song changes that.
It's about Hitlers plan to end the Jews, nothing new about it. It all started hundreds of years ago in Germany. Passionate and darkly beautiful, a pinacle of a tribute.
When I heard this song for the first time and didn't know what the lyrics were translated in English I thought the song was about the singer''s anger towards Steven Speilberg for making Hook.
I think the reason I hold Rammstein so close is because their lyrics are honest and unrelenting. They're completely direct and they're presented in such a heartfelt manner.
but there is one mistake.. at 2:47 he doesn't sing schrein (scream), he sings Stein.. when you connect it to that what he singed before, he sings Ramm...Stein.. you get it? ;)
@blues260 I think I know what you're talking about, where the girl's father locked her in a secret basement dungeon that he built for something like 20 years? I think Rammstein actually wrote another song about it directly but I don't remember.
@HeavyAcid666 in austria yes..search about when that happened and when this song was published,if it fits then maybe its inspired by that fact...in fact a lot of rammstein songs are inspired by something..even mutter for example was written to explain the bad relationship till and richard had with their mothers, they said it and many other examples along with that about their songs
@HeavyAcid666 just saw the documentary which explained everything with every detail...the lyrics of this song match what happened PERFECTLY..even for the fact that there were no windows,no light in at all, small, the fact that he was planning this for these years before closing her in,the fact that if you remain in a room for 24 years you become a part of it,the fact that he built it on his own,the fact that he wanted her to be always next to her to abuse her sexually..watch the lyrics above...
@HeavyAcid666 the song could also refer to "stein um stein"(another brick in the wall)..in the german version of the song in its chorus that phrase is used, but the rest of the lyrics dont match it..anyways rammstein uber alles, nice song:P
Lol sorry but Im very happy that they are german band...German language so beautiful for music than American English :) I dont mean to offend but its the truth.
@MrRzareckiwuzhere No it does not. "Schreien" means scream. And yes, They say "niemand hoert dich SCHREIEEEEEEENNNNN!!!!!!!!" So you were right, they said scream not stone. That is, at 1:52. HOWEVER... at 2:46, they say STEIN!! meaning stone. Reason: In german, the last word in the previous sentence was Ramm. So after that they scream Stein. You know, like Rammstein. But it's sort of a lesser known pun.
i can picture the perfect music vid, but i got the feeling it was more the guy's wife. that would make it more dramatic and explain why he was going through all this trouble to "always be with you". i can see him in the beggining come home to his wife with a dark look (maybe 200 or so years ago) and during the song it jumps a lot timeline wise from killing his wife, building his house, and him in a completed house. the 'stein um stein' part be from 'her' point of view as he walls her up.
In my head the video would feature his wife not dying, but her being chained to a concrete foundation in good health. The the point of the "house" would be lost with her death. She cannot scream if she is dead. The intro to the song would be setting the mood between them, the body would be him building the tomb with her bound and watching him. It would finish with the placement of the last brick followed by a silhouette of the tomb and him in front of a sunset. "We are together now."
to me this song seems to be about the berlin wall.....
most countrymen refer to their country as a woman. and the garden could be refering to the mass grave because they shot anyone that tried to get past the berlin wall
Actually, this song was based off of a poem by Edgar Allen Poe. The poem is called 'The Cask of Amontillado'. Once you read it, all of it will sound exactly the same and come together.
