This is what the wwf was all about.. 2 of the best at the time. 1 heel 1 face. Long rivalry through the years from intercontinental title to the wwf title. Almost every confrontation ended in a fight breaking out. They cut the best promos, they could talk the talk. These guys could make any crowd in any arena pop. This was wwf we want back... But it doesnt look likely with attitude era faded out by the new breed of "superstars".

This is when Rock's popularity was really starting to rise. He was definitely stealing some of the spotlight, at this time.No one in the company saw it coming. Rock said that's why they had to cut the Rock/Austin rivalry short, after this match, because Rock was starting to get some cheers and fans generally want to cheer someone and boo someone. With those two it would have just been cheering.

~ In both 1999 & 2000 Backlash, Shane McMahon was the referee. Both times, he got his a** kicked!!!

~ A McMahon accompanied Earl Hebner to the ring (Vince in '99, Linda in '00). Actually, each attacked their child of their own gender (Vince->Shane, Linda->Stephanie)!!!

~ The person supported by Shane McMahon lost both matches (Rock in '99, Triple H in 2000)!!!

~ Both matches ended with fireworks (Taker abducts Stephanie in '99, Austin & the Rock toasting the WWF title in '00)!!!
