  • This was such a joy to watch, I'm not familiar with The Watchmen. But, I love how this reminded me of the "Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" very very epic stuff.

  • @AbdulazizM1982 Read it! Read it! Read it! You can thank me later.

  • Stick on to cartoonsi.co.cc to get latest updates of the cartoons !

  • wonderful choreography!!!! its really very rare to get such amazing cartoons filled with the dance steps !! just check them out for yourself at cartoonsi.co.cc!!

  • Everything you could possibly want in a movie on freecartoonsus..Who would have though that a cartoon could be so adventurous

  • Awesome, awesome film on freecartoonsus. Sometimes it was funny, sometimes it was sad, but at all times it was heart warming

  • I've read the black freighter 200 times and still dint get it... Xlcould someone break it down please???

  • @StefanJato It's mainly a veidt story. It portrays how he had an "end justified the means" attitude. The man in the story did whatever it took to reach his family, even going so far as to murder. His paranoia gets the best of him, and he ends up killing his family. In the end, the black freighter comes to his home island, but not to pillage the island. Only for that one man. It's a great allegory for

    moral relativism.

  • if you loved watchmen, read the comic.

then you will understand Tales of the Black Freighter.

  • @totallyirreverent I'm getting it this week actually

  • @KevinLounsberry

cool, hope you enjoy it as much as the film.

  • @totallyirreverent graphic novel :)

  • Read the book dumbass.

  • @ba1td It would be good to think a bit more before you call other people dumb. Two comments above you I say I'm getting the book.

Though it probably won't change my opinion much, since I already understand and have given a written explanation to why this is the way it is

  • Mate, the whole point of the Black Frieghter is to juxtapose the storyline in watchmen, although playing no major role, its far from a piece of trash.

As for my statement calling you a dumbass, i stand by it as you made a statement on a book that you have not read, and do not understand the ideas it represents.

  • @ba1td interesting. but you're still the dumbass here, because in my comment I clearly said it being this way is justified. Not only that but I said I intend to get the book, now again the third time. and on its own it's still a piece of trash (again, talking about the animation here, not about the comic).

If you read a beautiful poem, and you take out one word, would you think that 1 word is a beautiful poem, or would you think this poem with 1 word is missing something?

  • I'm not sure about it being really well animated like this. I would have preferred it to be sort of like a motion comic rather than an animated movie. Still looks awesome though :)

  • The Tale of the Black Freighter blended in with the Watchmen story extremely well. It's the eeriest part of Watchmen.

  • bought the watchmen for blu ray man it kicks ass but i only find watchmen and black freighter together for blu ray not for dvd and is this movie good.

  • wait so does this have the watchmen in at all

  • i got the movie earlier the black freighter was ok

  • i saw the movie ,it was pretty good

  • BRAINS! EWW

  • That pop at the end is awful lol

  • Also... I'm not sure how I feel about this being merged into the move for the directors cut.

I can't help thinking the change will be quite jarring.

Having said that, I kinda felt the same way about it being in the original story. Although, I very much appreciated it's style.

  • I love the pop at the end of the clip just as he's talking about the birds taking his eyes.

    It's almost onomatopoeic.

  • I heard that they are gonna include this in an extended version DVD. I wonder if it will be spliced into the feature as it is in the actual comic or if it will just be a stand-alone. I think it would be kind of redundant as a stand-alone, though.

    PS

    You are all gay.

  • It might work better cut into an extended version, but it looks pretty different to the rest of the movie to me.

Seems like the original meaning is lost as a stand alone.

  • It could work as say a kid watching TV instead of reading a comic, andthen splice it into the film perhaps as an option which can be selected in the menu. I'm not sure I like the look of it too much. I know it's hand drawn and everything but it just doesn't look eighties enough. Perhaps it should look even older still; seventies even sixties. Theirin even more context is lost as they would never have ade a cartoon that violent for kids wherea they did make comics that were quite gruesome.

  • The TV idea is a great one, especially as it's now an animated thing instead of the original comic art, but I read someplace that the live action of the boy reading the comic is already shot.

  • They should have asked me to do the whole thing, really. I would probably have done a better job. First thing I would have got rid of Dr Manhattan; he contributes very little to the plot in my opinion. Ditto that for the comedian; just don't see the point of him to be honest. I would have based it in a highschool and thrown in a sports theme.Y'know, like teenwolf with the basketball.

  • i don't know why they did it as a cartoon.

plus: although i think the changes in the movie affect the comic negatively (in fact, i like the movie ending better because that alien monster in the comic was ridiculous), i still think turning around that whole scene with the newspaper seller and the boy sitting next to him reading the comic would be a bit too much to change. a cartoon would not transport the spirit of what it was in the comic. though the black freighter parts weren't my favourit ^^

  • i wanted to say "although i think the changes in the movie DIDN'T affect the comic negatively"

  • the reson they did it as a cartoon is becaus in the book it is and the watchmen story is real life

  • no the squid was good. It was Supposed to be ridiculous and show how bad a real monster attack would be.

  • He leaves land a determined man, he returns to land a madman.

  • I agree... (put a finger on who?)

  • Is this from mrchriswatts?

    Are you paranoid about something?

You seem to be the one that's created another account to send out more insults, this time to me. Seems like some of these comments here were right about you then. I notice that your comments still are hidden, all I asked was to see them. Sorry this has upset you so much.

  • Oh by the way, I am not who you seem to think I am. There are a lot of people that visit youtube, it is not me making approval ratings for comments go up or down, I'm not even interested.

Look, let's agree to stop the insults and let folks write their thoughts here about the film. Like I said; I didn't like it, but I'm interested to see how it will cut into the dvd version. What do you think mrchriswatts?

  • I was told this short was suppose to represent one of the characters in the Watchmen. Can someone help me out here? I don't see a connection, if any at all, to any of the Watchmen characters.

  • SPOILER GUYS

Black Freighter is supposed to represent Veidt's separation from the rest of the human race - it's meant to ask the question, "Do the ends justify the means?" The man in Black Freighter devoured gulls and sharks, made a raft out of dead bodies, and killed people to save his family - but in the end, it was all for naught. Veidt murdered people, countless people, and committed other atrocities to "save" humanity. Go back and read it again - you'll catch the parallels. :)

  • wow. thx man. Really, because i was actually expecting someone to cuss me out for not knowing.

  • :) Don't worry about it - no one should cuss anyone out for not picking up something like that. I didn't get it the first time, either, and had to have it explained to me.

  • It's part Rorshach but mostly Veidt, I hope that the part where the guy goes onto the ship symbolizes Veidt failing, I hate that bastard. Ya world peice blah blah blah, what he did was wrong IMO.

  • he's not the "kid by the newstand" he's BERNIE!!!

  • Wow... um, you all need to learn more about and watch more animation before you go spouting your ignorant views... Disney-sih? Really? Can I call you a dumbass without getting in trouble?

  • The animation/design looks pretty uninspired.

  • I agree, waste of money.

  • Alan Moore masters piece!

  • Don't buy it yet, the director's cut of watchmen is going to have it edited in with more scenes of the two Benards and the real ending of the graphic novel.

  • directors cut is NOT going to have the stupid squid. See Wizard #211 for comments from Snyder about the Directors cut

  • Yeah that'll be really epic

  • look my account up do you think this is planet X,on my security camera.let me know.

  • Great stuff and adaptation.

  • Awesome! I'm picking this up on Blu-ray on the 24th. I can't wait!

  • comic book to cartoon movie

  • When are americans gonna learn the difference between Cartoon and Animation. Black Freighter is in NO WAY a freakin cartoon!!! Animaniacs = cartoon Black Freighter = High end Animation... geesh!

  • Err ok.

  • Stupid fuckhead. It's from a comic book to a cartoon.

  • It's not a cartoon you dipshit!!! Holy crap why does no one know the difference between Looney toons and freakin kick ass animation that is 100% NOT FOR KIDS!!! What is wrong with you?!

  • dude, i think they got the point, chill out. I agree with you anyway.

  • Sounds to me like animationgreek had some issues with mrchriswatts, whose to say who is right or wrong. But why is he or she a 'pussy'? The film business is full of distasteful people, an easy place to have a bad experience or get burnt.

animationgreek does not seem scared to me, but why has mrchriswatts comments been removed?

  • Great to see this, animation is good but too Disney-ish for this subject matter.

btw Rome Series 1 Episode 7 "borrowed" the idea of sailing home on fifteen dead men's chests

  • i thought the animation was cool. its sick how theyve hand drawn everything

  • nah it look to real to be disney-ish

  • Comment removed

  • I hope that all of the characters from the comic make an appearance in the director's cut. I also hope Rorschac's psychiatrist has a bigger part. His transformation from the happy fat guy to the miserable person he becomes through their sessions together is one of my favorite parts of the comic. That and all the characters visiting the news stand.

  • ok lets not start world war 3

  • It's so fucking awesome that they did this. Can't wait for the full Watchmen director's cut.

  • Hopefully the director's cut is much better than the theatrical run. And takes much more time on the key scenes, i.e. Manhattan on Mars.

  • According to what I've read, this cartoon will be interspersed with scenes centering around the two Bernies on the street corner and the characters they interact with. This is a good news because it means they're bringing in another of the book's subplots.

Frankly, I can't wait until this and the director's cut of the film comes out so that I can watch it all in it's entirety. It'll be one long viewing session, but hell, it'll be freaking awesome.

  • looks good cant wait

  • Wow, it looks good and with Gerard's deep voice it sure sounds good as well!!

Got a question though. Does anybody know what song is that playing on the background of the trailer??? I'd apreciate it if anybody enlightened me me on this one...Cheers !

  • Awesome voice of Gerard Butler. This alone is going to get me to buy the DVD. Way to go Gerry!

  • I'm damn happy that it's separated from the movie, that's all i have to say.

  • Wish it were a bit better animated...

  • Wait, who really story boarded this film? And who directed this?

  • I heard the pop and went to check my facebook >.>

  • i heard the pop and was puzzled because my wasn't even opened O_O

  • lol "our team in korea" slave labor!

  • Yes, you have a lot of explaining to do... you were also the one who said Zack boarded the film... that's not true.

  • Comment removed

  • ...?

    Get a life mrchrisswatts.

Then again, I realize now that I've been drawn into your mess, simply by showing some support for animationgreek and asking to see your removed comments. It's all getting too lame.

Let's leave this forum for discussion about the film.

  • This looks excellent. The DVD comes out during the first week that Watchmen opens.

  • This looks awesome, hopefully the huge success watchmen is going to be will lead to a live action version of this to splice into an extended edition of the movie someday (they're going to use this for now which will be cool too).

  • that would be awful, and stupid.

people like you are the reason animation as a medium doesn't get the respect it deserves.

  • So the watchmen movie should have been a cartoon as well? Sorry but the reason animation doesn't get respect is because it sticks to hyper stylized genres that don't appeal to the mass audiences or are kids movies and therefore don't get big bucks to do anything well that I care for.

Yes ninja scroll, akira, and even the original heavy metal were all big favorites of mine, but they don't stand up to LOTR (the live action movie) the matrix, star wars (the original 3) even with Gerrard butler

  • that's kind of a cynical point of view....

  • It's not cynical, it's an observation of reality. I'm not saying it can't be done, it just isn't being done, if they do it I'll be into it, until then I'll be waiting. From the look of BF it's not going to revolutionize cartoon film, looks cool I'll enjoy it, but I'd prefer live action for now. besides I think they spent 1 million on this thing compared to 119 on the rest, so you figure out where the discrepancy is.

  • drawing and animating takes alot of work to do. if perspectives are a lil twisted or are a little off, smooth animation can't be done. it's not as easy as live action where things can be re-set and re-shot. i respect animation alot because of this fact. i don't think it would be any "cooler" if it were made into live action, but i could humor the thought of gerard butler as the captain. xD

  • "Sorry but the reason animation doesn't get respect is because it sticks to hyper stylized genres that don't appeal to the mass audiences or are kids movies and therefore don't get big bucks to do anything well that I care for. " It could be argued that what you said is a virtue, not a vice. Hyper-styled could also mean "individualist," not "homogenized."

  • Not when the vast majority of the 'Hyper-stylized product is Anime, a very homogenized form. Individualist would imply a wide range of styles being used many of them defying classification, something I have yet to be aware of.

  • I was speaking broadly (and ideally), but I can see your point about anime.

  • What a humorously misplaced popping noise.

  • This looks better than the actual Watchmen movie, hahaha.

  • thats awesome!

  • Hola AYBGerrardo!!!!

    ;-)

Sorry guys for being a complete idiot...
