  • I got excited when I found out this was one of the stories being re-released on DVD as part of their Revisitations line... only to sadly hear they weren't adding new effects to it. I certainly don't want or expect that with every release, but if ANY story needed the simple addition of a few laser blasts, its THIS one! :( Thanks for a great effort to show what it would be like! Wanted to have a go at this myself until I saw this. Have you thought about doing other parts of the story?

  • @BanjoOz Don't let anything stop you having a go yourself. Trust me, talented people on here have done far better with this scene than me. Get in and get your hands dirty! I agree with you about the sfx in this scene. Without them it lacks something. Weapons are supposed to do damage for f's sake! Ideally, if I was to do this again (which I might) I would want to add more smoke and maybe structural damage. Unfortunately the flaws with the scene lie far beyond the realms of special effects.

  • Great effects very well done, but I think the really big problem with that particular scene was the Daleks that just standing there like parts of the scenery, they should’ve had more movement from them when they recorded this.

  • Why cant they put in the new FX in the dvds or even better colourise them! nice work man!

  • @MrUltimateforce Thanks for the kind comments. 2Entertains remit with regard to the DVD releases is to bring them upto a standard on par with original tv broadcast (although it could be argued that with the audio and video restoration, they are already surpassing the original broadcast quality). They simply do not have the available budget to do it, plus they are aware that there are plenty of hobbyists who will do this anyway.

  • @MrUltimateforce Because we don't want it ? :/

  • That's very good!

  • The guy that dies at 0:09 seems to get Rigor mortis before he's even finished dieing lol.

  • Great effects. Wish they could have been as good back in the day. This is a rare occasion where I would admitt the SFX have added a real quality to the scene and not over powered it with richness.

  • hhhmm. i have thought of it. i have a new program which can do this stuff, but im more for doing it on my animations. i think though, next year im going to do a few voice and fx changes to revelation of the daleks and the chase (also put this one in colour)

  • sorry to say but those lights were begging to flash when they spoke. you could have done that. still, its awsome as ever. i wish they would put better choices into the classic dvds for fx.

  • Are you aware how tricky it is to time an effect like that to a soundtrack? I could have done it but I didn't feel it was important. If you want to do it, go for it..

  • lovely explosions though. in the 80's, they knew how to blow stuff up mice and proper, with plenty of smoke!

  • i prefered the old dalek vioces but love the pase of the shots i would like to see these effects on the dvd when you go on special features and put on the new special effects

  • I know what you mean about the voices and I'll confess that I did pay more attention to the visual side than the audio. I just thought it weird that the Daleks were in the middle of a firefight and not screaming 'Exterminate'! The voice I used was the only clean soundclip I could find at the time.... But I'm not finished with this yet :D

  • it would hve been cool if they were still talking in the new series style when they retreated but its still good. 5 stars.

  • I know, but it was hard enough to find an isolated 'Exterminate' let alone any other Dalek speech. There are bits I still would like to change.... But thank you for your comments and watch this space :D

  • that was well good !

  • Wha did you use to make this?

  • After Effects 7 for the visual effects and Sony Vegas to add the extra sound effects. It takes a lot of tinkering and messing around at first, but it's quite intuitive.

  • awesome! cud u do all the action scenes like this? like the other battles on the space station, the cruiser attack? the final battle etc?

  • Nice again but I do wish that there could be more of a glow around the 'victims' as the actors were terrible and it might mask their 'contribution' a bit.

  • I did think about trying to make the skeletons appear.. but I haven't really the time or skill to do it presently. Thanks for the kind comment though, very much appreciated.

  • Wish they redid the video effects in this episode for the DVD.

  • I like it, always thought there was something missing from this story, and i think you nailed it.

Now if only you could do something about the overacted death scenes that crop up, this one would be almost perfect.

  • Maybe some scrupulous editing could solve that problem. Thanks for the feedback.. keep watching.

  • I was thinking you should add a electric like shock wave when the bomb is activated.

  • It's a good thought.. Only problem is that the bigger the explosion, the more reaction there would have to be from the people in the scene. I did try to add more impact to the explosion, but I didn't want it to look out of place.

  • Very good, although the 'exterminate' didn't quite fit with the rest of the voices.

  • I know.. Hard to find isolated 'Exterminate' sounds. I got that particular one from the BBC website. I thought it was odd to have a Dalek fire fight without them shouting exterminate though.

  • Nice Job! Please do more! I wish the BBC would redo some of the old Doctor Who episodes with new effects.

  • Thanks. I just thought it needed doing. There are other bits of this story I would like to polish up.. time permitting.
