  • nice beet to it

  • This engine has a cool techno dance music sound . All oyu need is a keyboard player playing music along with that engine using it for a drum machine

  • This machine would be perfect to power around 8-10 homes if hooked to the rite generator. Also I'd imagine this would run on Rendered fat, liqueur, Kerosene, Propane, Natural Gas, Gasoline, Diesel, JP8, ethanol, methanol, etc. I'm sure this one in the video could still run longer than I have left to live and I'm 26. Continuous reliable power, and with a group funding, could be, very cost efficient.

  • Candy duflers and dave stewarts -lily was here Beginning melody sounds like this lol :D

  • Paul, what year was this engine built. I couldn't find that info anywhere. Also, do you have an estimated weight of it? My guess is around 3800 - 4500 KG?

  • @NewJerseyBill

Built 1923, weight about 6 tons..

  • Beautiful engine, why does it make a hissing noise after every forth of fifth firing?

  • sound like a song...very beautyful

  • ...it's a 1920 sequencer?? :D this groove is amazing XD

  • arfter clanck clunck you can heay a thump

  • i've heard wors music

  • it fires once every second. lol 120 rpm amazing how these engine can make like 60 hp and put out more than 10K lbft of torque.

  • Wow, I can dance on that rhythm!

  • bjutyful

  • good old days in 1930 when people stroll past a factory and listen to the music

  • That beautiful Engine also the the pure music of the sound sis awsome !!

  • I could always fly over to Wales and show you guys how to make your own biodiesel out of waste veggie oil, would cut your operating costs considerably.

  • what's with the thumbs down man?

  • PURE MUSIC !

  • Whenever a museum runs engine like this, they should have generators hooked into them feedijng back into the grid. Even run for a few hours a day it would make a dent in a museum's electric bill, and you could run the diesels on waste vegitable oil.

  • Great idea :)

  • yup! but normal diesel fuel smells much better, especially the boat diesel i just love that smell... it smells like 1800's

  • I love the smell of diesel fuel as well, but I prefer the smell of fried food even better from biodiesel!

  • The most smooth running single cylinder ive ever heard! I would love to have one of these, I would imagine it would be cheaper to run than a modern generator.

Seems like it would get better GPH.

And they can run for days on end with no rest, even weeks.

  • your right, theres a engine on youtube even bigger then this that ran for 50 years straight!, proves the older engines are much bettter then the new

  • I am getting into metal casting and when I get into it full blast, I plan on trying to create one of these incredible engines.

  • that engine could probably run 24 hrs a day for years .COOL

  • That is what it was made for.

  • This music sounds better than most of the crap i hear on the radio now a days.

  • I could fall asleep to this. Hearing this thing contentedly chugging away through the night keeping the house warm.

  • THAT IS SO AWESOME! it sounds like part of a song!

  • they should make a new one of this size with to days knowledge.

  • they'd probably screw it up with all the emissions crap that is forced on engines today. this engine is pure simplicity, that's why they ran for so long.

  • @spencnaz it not that. its because many of the Engineers have taken care of a beautiful machine for so long. Plus i agree with the simple part. alot of simple machines most likely to out live humans. Due to clock work technology. & to clear up another thing. We now live in a world where its cheaper to throw it out then to fix it..

    The Wasteful Generation.

  • @spencnaz too much electonics in engines now days. It would be interesting to run a test to see exactly how long it would run.

  • very nice sounds sweet. can anyone tell me how many of these engines are stil arround, particularly the 6h. and value of such. thanx

  • That thing is quite hypnotic.

  • i like it

  • nice sound rythm:) like a music)))

  • search brush engine malta/

search under ground flour mill malta

  • my last name is ruston

  • Awesome.

  • I'm really amazed at the rythym and sound it makes!

  • Tidy engine, interesting video. Please tidy up the engineer! Thanks

  • dj Ruston ...chill sound

  • simply great!it's groove!

  • how much fuel uses the engine per hour?

the sound is very great and makes a little bit hypnosis :))

  • It made 154 beats lol.

  • I get 134. XD This is a wonderful engine. I love these old ones so much, they're mesmerizing to observe.

  • This engine actually sounds like your in a clock with a second hand lol. Beats every second.

  • That is a lovely sounding engine you got there! brill vid!

  • Hey Paul- I really enjoy these videos you post, especially this one and the one of the 160 tangye! Thanks!

  • Any other engines that play music like that???

  • Look for his Tangye Diesel.

  • OMG It's gangster music, or hip-hop!!!!!!!!!

  • thats impressive

  • This sounds like a spiffy backbeat, would be great for a song!

  • What a beautiful sound. Like sex in slow motion.

  • Open the decompression valve, turn the engine by hand until it reaches the top of the power stroke, open the air valve to introduce starting air into the engine, and after the engine pops quickly close the decompression valve before the engine dies!

  • Actually, this one is a semidiesel, which requires a certain amount of compression to cause it to fire. The sequence in this case would be more along the lines of Open compression release, put engine a few degrees past IDC (so the starting air can actually turn the engine), close compression release, open air start valve.

  • Actually she is a full cold start diesel. Half compression set then turned until just after TDC. The engine has an additional cam on the sideshaft to control starting air and is turned over using the air bottle until going fast enough. The air is then shut off, fuel on, full compression set and she should be going fast enough to run over compression and start.

    Cheers

    Paul

  • Thanks Paul! I asssumed it was a semidiesel due to the design. Watching the video, I can see all the steps you describe. Thanks again!

  • Its rapping, hahahha.

  • Gawd, if that thing were an engine in a ship, it would put me to sleep in 15 minutes ...lol

  • Brilliant.... the four-stroke cycle slow enough to count!

  • These engines were used to drive all kinds of machines and some were used in textile factories.

  • I would put that engine on a boat or a generator or something.

  • This engine was built by Timothy Ruston. A very well known engineer. These engines used to be run comercialy in workshops and factories.

  • I can dance to that sound!! LOL ROFL

  • it sounds like p-diddy last night song

  • I wanna hear that thing allowed to rev as fast as it has the power for...Sweet tho the rythem is, it's missing a certain roar...Beautiful engine tho

  • This is fairly close to its rated speed. Within about 30 RPM I would say.

  • 52 hp at 240 rpm is 1138 ft-lbs torque. Impressive. :)

  • Fantastic i myself just started my ruston 3hr diesel for the first time today after what seems like years of making a base complicated slightly by the need of an outrigger bearing and countles hours pipe work all being well will be on the showfield this year

  • Nice, it makes less noise then my VW transporter lol!!

  • Probably weighs twice as much, too! :)

  • it sounds like a song!!!!

  • If Gotham City were real then this would be the engine that would provide the power. What a beautiful sound, pure music!

  • I'm reminded of an old AC/DC tune..."The Girls Got Rhythm"! ;)

  • I really like the hard thumping sound of this engine, could be used in making industrial music

  • Music to my ears ^^

  • what's its max hp?

  • 52hp at 240 rpm

  • How much fuel would it burn in 24 hours?

  • Am I right if I say that these engines, connected with a belt, provided rotational power to smaller industries through a long shaft along the buildings rooftop?

  • hell yea man its awesome, Hoorah!

  • Yes, it sure does! Really cool

  • It sounds like a music!

  • It souds like music!
