@subarux56 Clamshell is a material to make stones out of. Yunzi means that their single-convex, meaning the have a flat and round side, unlike most stones which are bi-convex, two rounded sides. Most Yunzi stones are made of glass. However Clamshell are the best quality stones for white, and slate is the best for black. Hope i could help :)
@Hikaru15323 actually Yunzi means stones made in Yun Nan Province, it doesn't mean single-convex although they r. real Yunzi is usually made of a mixture of several ingredients and some of them r kept secret. Clamshell and slate stones r the most expensive becuz Jap products r usually very expensive... -_-||| however, it doesn't mean they r the best. Jade ones, Yunzi, and shell r the best materials so far.
@canadianfirzen I like the yunzi stones better for some reason. Of course clamshell & slate are the gold standard in Go gear for many, but is something about yunzi stones on a bamboo board that induces relaxation and calm. Really enriches the experience, but then again I've only played with yunzi and not slate & shell. I really miss my yunzi set ;_;
@hananokuni2580 The thing I don't like about either is they are both highly manufactured. Bamboo is a hollow rod, the process to strip and build them into a large board with glue and lacquer is just way too processed for my tastes.
Shell, Slate, and Wood on the other hand is so perfect. Shell carved into stone. Slate carved into stone. And most importantly a single, solid piece of wood, lines drawn with a samurai sword. You can't get more aesthetically pleasing or have more attitude than that!
I love yunzi stones! and i believe i have the same bowls :D Yunzi's the best! especially when holding the black one's in the light ^^ 5/5 Wei Qi rocks :D
Asian games are like looking thru a "microscope", while Moor(Asian) games(Gaberail Chinese chess and Othello) are like looking thru a "magnifine glass".
@iceshiel not propaganda for sure. but it's not documentary either.... it's an advertisement (or say introduction as it's not like a typical ad.) of their yunzi factory which produces the Go stones...

Yes, people: we all know this is a propaganda by the sound of the narrators... and everyone around the world DOES propaganda of ANYTHING. Please don't just point your arrows at China like that.

I am not an expert on China, Chinese culture or Weiqi for that matter, but on behalf of my current education I am subject to believe this is PROPAGANDA.

A good game of Go is mainly about attitude, IMHO.

I really miss my Yunzi + bamboo board set. The aesthetic of clouds floating over the board adds a relaxing atmosphere to any game of Weiqi.

saiAhikaru,
Did you purchase the new Yunzi stones made without lead? If so, so they play like the leaded ones?
I returned my Yunzi lead stones but Yellow Mountain Imports didn't have the new lead free stones at the time.

One definition of "propaganda" is: allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause.
