  • 216.167 likes to every dislike. O_o.

  • There's no denying his awesomeness, but I with he'd get a band. I enjoy watching a band playing more than listening to loops.

  • This should be the last song played at the end of the world...

  • I always listen to musicans like Radiohead, Andrew Bird, ect. who have the quiet patience to feel the music that when it comes out it's just utter inspiration that brings with it it's own aspirations and warmth, it's simply beautiful.

  • Fuck my shoes I'm giving people eargasms!!!!

  • This music is so much better then everything else.

  • i get really lonely at the end of this video. in those seconds before i hit replay, it's as if every love i've ever had has walked away from me, and hearing this music again is the only way they'll come back.

    so here goes nothing.

  • OMFG!

  • I like how he says "mmmmkay" at 0:00

  • If it someone would ask me to define love, it would be this song.

  • Even his feet are trained and talented...

  • This. Is. The. Shit.

  • The loop playing in the background is quite hypnotizing.

  • the ultimate one man band

  • Andrew Bird.

  • I like how he kicks his shoes off at 6:20.

    I love how music.

  • radiohead, fleet foxes and andrew bird... erm... quite a decent episode of from the basement

  • Why isnt this guy mainstream???? INJUSTICE!!!!! This guy is like a million times better than keesha or all that other shit on the radio.

  • @mystisizm cuz he can't be mainstream.... big record labels change bands... but i do agree more people need to know of this mans genius...

  • I'm pretty sure he jizzes from the sound of his own music at 6:14

  • That's a good 7:22 well spent today :)

  • This man is a visionary. He is genius at creating a simple melody and slowly adding more and more intricate harmonies and counterpoint until it achieves perfection.

  • if i could whistle like him id talk to the birds.

  • <3

  • I wish i had talent like andrew bird:/

  • Mesmerizing, this never gets old.

  • The 6 dislikes intended to thumbs up, but were too mesmerized to notice the difference.

  • How does this song have dislikes? Do people not understand he's played every part of this? and he can whistle like Jesus or an animal from a disney film...

  • @prmccull hahahaha like jesus or an animal from a disney film...

  • @prmccull

    lmao "like Jesus"

  • i'm not going to lie, this man is makes the sexiest faces playing music

  • the beginning of the song reminds of Radiohead - weird fishes

  • @amrohijjawi both amazing musicians!

  • @amrohijjawi dude. I was thinking that same freaking thing when I first saw this lol. The similarites are so funny: the music (a lot) but even Andrew and Thom's facial expressions when they are playing. Lmao and Radiohead played at the Basement too.

  • @MsAnnetju

and whistle love into your face!

  • Holy crap. This guy just might be the most musically gifted person I've ever heard.

  • @bonbonbonification fromthebasement.tv it's originaly from there...

  • ladys and gentlemans THIS IS MAGIC!

  • 5 people dont like this, and i dont give a rats ass because his music has me in such a good mood right now

  • 5 people don't know what is music... = /

  • what an inspiration.

  • man, he's fucking beautiful !

  • kicks off his shoes like a boss

  • His talent is so undeniable. I can't imagine anyone failing to find the transcendent beauty in this piece

  • Will see Andrew Bird live in 1 week in great venue. Third time. Once saw him solo in a very small venue, but he only played for 35 minutes. He and 2 other musicians/bands were stepping in for a cancelled show. The sad thing was he played for shortest time and was, far far and away, much better than the 2 groups that followed him. He's put on a fantastic live show each time. Love introducing people to his music. Just keep spreading the word.

  • Honestly beautiful.

  • I can't believe this has only 105,313 views..while Beiber's "baby" video has over 600,000,000...its a crime I tell you..people just dont seem to know good music

  • Meu! Esse cara é um "Dead Can Dance" de um homem só. Ahhh! se não fosse a música.

  • Love the sound textures and layering. Wow. So happy I found his work.

  • He is a loop-pedal god.

  • A chorus of birds do not equal the immaculateness of this guys whistling

  • Thank you so much for posting this whole basement series. It is beautiful. Very rare and gorgeous. I appreciate it - the sound is gorgeous on these.

  • SO good..

  • One man band in real life

  • I bet Sergey Krylov even listens to Andrew Bird.

  • that was fucking amazing.

  • 5 people listen to mainstream catchy pop songs

  • I'm sorry, I'm trying to record a cover of this song, but the tempo is killing me!... I'm not shure if it's 155 bmp or if it's in 4/4...3/4 or what?. Does anyone know? I would love some help

  • @cesaROCK07 It's probably a mixed meter of some sort. This will be very hard without an actual driving force to his music besides the violin, plus he's putting a recording over a recording. Just listen to it and you might just have to go for it and hope for the best. Goodluck though! I hope you do an awesome cover!

  • @cesaROCK07 I'm pretty sure it's in 4/4. At least that's what makes sense when i try and keep tempo to it.

  • @YoDamienRice89 I thought that to, but I can't seem to make the loops right.

  • @cesaROCK07 The way I figured it, it's four measure of 4/4 with the first chord, then it's two more measures with the chord changes, so basically I think there are 6 measures in the loop. Not sure if that helps or not.

  • Valeu, Humberto Gessinger.

  • cheguei aqui via humberto gessinger!

  • I watch this when I need to remember why life is so damn beautiful.

  • SO MUCH LOVE!! <3

  • So I was flicking through the channels late one night, and accidentally stumbled across this performance. I lay on the couch, under a blanket, and just watched in awe as he picked up that violin and played the most beautiful piece of music ever to come out of my television set. This, my friends, is what it sounds like to put love into your music.

  • WHERE DID YOU GET THIS!?!?!?!? did you buy a dvd or something? I can't seem to find this anywhere!!!

  • @bonbonbonification I got it off the magic lantern box! Sky Arts 1. It's repeated occasionally.

  • @bcasey63 hahah thanks for responding! you have no idea how desperate I am to get this lol

so you HAVE to have Sky Arts 1 to get like a physical copy of this performance?

  • @bonbonbonification You can find it here: /watch?v=rPbsZDk02M8

  • When I first heard this song I fell asleep.

  • I feel so jittery and hopeful when I hear this.

    I can't keep still, it's so inspiring.

    Thank you, Mr. Bird.

  • Very cool eh. i am really surprised: this talented guy is so great

  • I cannot fathom why this video would have a thumbs down. =/

  • My favorite part is the throwing of shoes.

  • I want t expose my children to this. when I have them. i can think of nothing better to great them into this world.

  • He looks so alone in that big studio! This performance has a kind of sadness about it, but god he's amazing

  • Pretty sure that I just forgot to breath for 7 minutes and 22 seconds.

  • Feel like one of Hamelin's rats...

  • I LIke This Version Best

  • The entire "from the basement" series is great from beck to gnarls barkley it does a great job of capturing the emotion of the artists

  • this is so beautiful and perfect and masterful and full of emotion that i am actually crying. andrew bird has changed my life.

  • Five people....just didn't like the song. Or maybe the video. I'm not sure why; I thought it was beautiful. But, thankfully, beauty is not universal. Beauty is not by majority rule.

  • 6:23 yeah kick those fucking shoes off!

  • Church

  • Holy shit this guy is a one man orchestra

  • I wanna whitle like that

  • what a TUNE......TUNE !! right out the top drawer....a wonderful example of why i luv muzik....fanx andrew

  • SUBLIME, incredibly intense and powerful music. To think how well he times each looped segment and adds to it, pure talent.

Would love to see this arrangement of the song with Martin Dosh, any vids on youtube??? :-)

  • Now that is what u call a freestyle ladies and gentlemen!

  • @CleanX409 it's a violin, but violas are just as beautiful ;)

  • eargasm

  • i <3 viola's

  • ...who disliked this?!?! how??

  • 6:25 (:

    Instantly hooked

Thanks for your contribution to the musical landscape

  • Oh my GOD.

I used to be just an Andrew Bird fan, now I know he's just a fucking monster genius.

  • i'm speechless.

  • Saw this on Sky Arts - quite beautiful ! A real special treat, thank you.

  • 5 people like Justin Beiber.

  • "what? i can't bring my band and my orchestra with me? Oh, ok...i guess i'll have to buy a loop pedal and be a master"

  • Did anyone else see him kick off his shoes close to 6:15? Do work son, haha

  • first and only man to make whistling damn sexy.

  • oh my god

  • This is like heaven for my ears.

  • He is a true prodogy

  • This is so beautiful.

  • this is one of the most wonderful things ive ever seen. the whole atmosphere of the the reverb and the lighting of the room is amazing

  • I never wanted this to end.

  • brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The craziest thing is that he sings and plays violin and does all this looping recordings at the same time. Oh, and he'll throw in a whistle.

  • I'm pretty sure that this guy isn't human.... It's just that good.

  • I'm pretty sure that this guy isn't human.... It's just that good

  • thanks bcasey63. lovely music to dream better.

I have an advise to fix the aspect ratio of this great video. Edit video and just paste this: yt:stretch=16:9

in the tags. that's it. love and art

  • @picoscar Thanks, man. I'll keep that posting and use your tag. Mucho gracias! Brendan

  • @bcasey63 but you didn't edit the tags. try it. put: yt:stretch=16:9 on tags.

  • @picoscar That's better, yes? Thanks for the tip.

  • i remember when I saw him for the first time at a live show, pure magic, no one expect such a performance, he´s an incredible musician

  • Hah. I love how he just kicked off his slippers near the end.

  • wow...

  • I guess people lost good taste in music a while ago... he's so tlented I love his records if he was more famous i'd might be abble to see him live ugh

  • His violin solo at the end just makes me want to cry.

  • This is what music is all about. Simply brilliant

  • Andrew Bird.The Big Chill 2009.Sunday afternoon.A beautiful summer's day.Amazing vibe! I was there.

  • chucha!!! me buena cancion!! hubiera querido ver esto en vivo debe ser lo mejor del mundo!

  • he's a god damn genius! he's pretty much a god.

  • fucking overwhelming

  • Comment removed

  • I actually find a few of his live performances to be much better than their studio counterparts. This guy is amazing; it's a shame that he's relatively unknown (to the people in my area at least). It sucks that the radio musicians are the ones who experience the most success, while those who are leagues above them musically are left in the dark. I wish people were more open minded about music...

  • @MusicTheAccount I totally agree.

  • @MusicTheAccount nah, i think its ok bird doesnt sell like gaga...im sure financially he is ok and he is getting to do what he wants...not a victim of his fame and me, the fan, can reveal in not hearing his music 10 times a day on the radio and in every passing car and in stupid commercials for soap or cars ,etc

  • 4:18, my goodness is that wonderfully beautiful.

  • the force is strong in this one.... hmmm yes. what imense looping POWER!

  • andrew's the only man who can rock the vest. in my opinion

  • @r92cab I agree! He looks so nice in it.

  • how fantastic is the end?!

  • This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

  • he does everything by himself!

  • i love him when he kicks off his shoes

  • my brain is melting.

  • this video has three dislikes. at least there aren't THAT many stupid people.

  • Holy shit my mind just collapsed

  • what i get a kick outta him the most is that he always changes the tempo and the flow of his songs when he does a live performance. it's tough to make a song seem like something totally different, but still make it sound like nothing's changed. well done andrew.

  • if you havent heard andrew bird your missing out big time he is simply a musical genius listen all the way through the end is the best

  • Damn. Once he stops singing and starts looping the violin, that's just pure mesmerizing.

  • oh my god completely amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is SUPER! Amazingly BEAUTIFUL...

  • HOLY SHIT ]

  • Es un genio.

  • wonderful sound, inspireing and delicious, by the way, what an interesting amount of coments! lots of artists in here!

  • Bird>Yorke. Lrn2listen.

  • @lemonadewizard are you talking about thom yorke?

  • I prefer Yorke

  • I love how the camera man has no F'ing clue that your suppose to focuss in on the musicians fingers.- Especially when hes playing the violin

  • @jjsurfs60s Yea that was a complete fail.

  • he's so fucking good.

  • @jeffdizzle19 he is using a boss octave pedal, i need get that! anyways check out my page, i play music kind of like him but i have my own style!

    Thanks

  • He useing a lot of looping effects to acheive that kind of ton gotta love it

  • Anybody know how he achieves those really low octave notes? He does it at the begining to get the bass notes and then again when he's bowing, when you can hear both the low octave and the regular octave. Is it a certain pedal he uses?

  • There's a couple different ways. A boss octave pedal. I use an electroharmonix pog pedal which adds a sub octave and 2 octaves d-tuned higher. Just look around for different pedals. There are many.

  • hes shaking his head like he cant believe the great sound himself

  • The most talented string player that I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Absolutely amazing.

  • great

  • love this.

  • shoes at 6:25 haha!

  • how does this only have 15,000 views...he's a musical mastermind and the whole world should listen to him.

  • @chriszilla123 they're too busy listening to Lil Wayne :(

  • @chriszilla123

i think the same thing all the time. it's not like his music is too far out there to be radio-friendly either. but whatever, if people don't know Andrew Bird, it's their loss, not mine.

  • @chriszilla123 the musical taste of the world is collapsing. look at the itunes top ten. its dreadful. animal collective, andrew bird, these guys just arent being recognized enough. the music mind of today has become deteriorated and naive. few true musicians are left.
