  • How can anyone be bothered about Rory's looks? (Which aren't that bad by the way), no one will ever be as good in my book, sheer electrics up and down my spine every time I hear Rory play live, absolute genius!!!!!

  • good memories

  • I'm not sure why, but in this video he really reminds me of Roy Buchanan before he died.

  • Even in this condition, he still gives me goosebumps. Thanks Rory.

  • So sad to see him like that...This man was god. Still lives in his music...RIP RORY GALLAGHER

  • ero nelle prime file, bellissimo concerto

  • Comment removed

  • Why does the greatest men leave us so soon ? ><

    R.I.P. Rory

  • @xRaZ0r38

    only the good die young...

  • It kind of hurts me to see him like that.. I can only think of his death. I can't help it.

  • c'ero anchio a questo concerto! grande rory! unico e sicuramente il migliore! una potenzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  • Blast your comments!!! Cheers,Rory!!

  • Thats a sure sign of liver problems when your body bloats, it's a truly ugly way to go he deserved so much more this had to be a rare gig for him as he did so very few near the end stills sounds great for a guy that is in serious trouble with his health. R.I.P.Rory

  • Amazing live at Athens 1981 !!!

Are we gonna listen to REAL music like this again in near future ???

    Thank you Rory !++!

  • I have seen Rory G 6 or 7 times. He never failed. Never played things the same way twice! Towards the end, he was bloated secondary to severe live disease. Had a transplant & to the best of my knowledge caught MRSA or VRSA from hospital & passed away. A sad day for the blues n boogie indeed. Love ya G Man

  • In this video it's obvious that his liver is starting to fail ....what a shame .

  • είναι ολοφάνερο εδώ οτι το γαμημένο το συκώτι του άρχισε να τον εγκαταλείπει.....κρίμα ρε γαμώτο.

  • A true legend right to the end!

  • sketi kavla mexri telous...rip RORY

  • Rory was in deep trouble (with regards to his health) at this point. The lesions on his arm are plainly evident. His organs, especially his liver, were in dire straights... He makes some uncharacteristic mistakes...... yet he still plays brilliantly, still gives it his all. I am certain that at this point Rory was aware that his candle flame was dimming, yet he soldiered on, giving all he had to his fans... He was called back to his Heavenly Father, and he is with the angels...

  • Rory was never a fashion icon, but where did he get that shirt?

  • Che grinta! Che talento! Che energia! Il più grande chitarrista che l'Europa abbia mai avuto!!!

  • Today we are 16 years without Mr Stratocaster.

Hope you can make sound a harp in heaven rather similar as your strat.

    14.06.2011

  • Good,Good stuff!!!!

  • You gotta give the Man credit -- his body giving out but his spirit blazing to the end. Rock on G-Man.

  • THE MASTER!!!!! Even near the end of his life, wasted by 30 years of being on the road and some serious hard drinking, Rory could still smoke that battered old Strat!!!

  • tHE GREAT ONES ARE NOT MEANT TO LIVE FOREVER. wE GOT SHORTED IN SO MANY BEING LOST EARLY. My caps buttin is backwards? "some kind a central heater!. Have no idea, but is sure sounds kool. Save a seat! Crowd goes berserk!!! Front and center, couuld touch the mike stand. Highest expectations ever, and Rory blew the house down

  • Rory wer sonst?????

  • Σα λουκουμας ειναι εδω.

  • he looks so frail at the start of the set. the more he plays he seems to gain strength from the music and as it flows through him he becomes one with that beat up stratocaster and he is vitalized and having fun and rockin!

  • He looks a little like Roseanne Arnold.

  • @duncanstpt I had to force my self not to laugh at that!

  • r.i.p rory

  • NOW THATS GUITAR PLAYING

  • this is heartbreaking..his appearance. just like elvis towards the end of hislife

  • A true great, just have to watch Rory to see that this man lived to play. Absolute legend. Thanks for all the great music Rory.

  • Say what you will about his "new" band; they basically copied McAvoy,et all.

  • This is one of Rory"s last recorded performances. Mr. Stratocaster you are missed, hope there is a harp in heaven you can play on, I am sure you will make it sound like a strat. Thanks for your music, we will never forget you.

  • back in the 70's a friend gave me a bootleg tape and I wore it out...didn't know who the guitarist was though. My friends supreised me and said we were going to see a guy play in nyc..who I didnt know...until he came out...hate to say it, moved on..until the other day when i wnet looking for Hooker's Chill Out and gues who was starign up at me...Holy Sh_t! It all came crashing back...wnet to look for tour dates, found out it was 15 years...HE IS TIMELESS...rip, rory...

  • Just 1 word..................legend

  • you go to aerosmith and ppl are always saying that joe perry is the best.

i dont think they have seen this video.

maby im biased,ah well, too bad if i am

  • Fantastic!

  • It may have been the medicine responsible for the bloated look, he had liver failure supposing from a diet of pills he had been taken for some time. I forgot about him and when I looked him up found he had died 14 years ago! I was sad,.. he was big in the 1970s

  • Molestik, do you have more material of this concert? If so, could you please please upload that for us , would make me a very happy dutch lady..

  • Excellence.....nothing but excellence! And the sheer JOY he shows on his face is just indescribable.

  • Good flamenco intro, Rory is THE MAN

  • extra!!!

    :-) :-)

    pozzzzzz from Serbia!!!!

  • Already 15 years that Mr Strat passed away. Hope he can make an (irish) harp in heaven sounds like his beloved strat. Missed, but not forgotten, 4 always in my mind.

  • Goodbye Mr. Stratocaster, you passed away but you ain't forgotten and your music will by cherished 4-ever.

  • rory a heart and sole ear player fantastic

  • mein klassika

  • Awesome.

  • i will agree that Rory was one of the greates but Jimi Hendrix dies in 1970 so some of rory's best stuff came from 1970 and so on... so my question is that say Jimi lives just till 1980 i couldnt imagine that music that he would of created. Just a thought. Jimi-Rory two of the best for sure! peace

  • reporter to jimmy hendrix ''whats it like to be the best guitarist in the world'' , jimmy says ''i wouldnt know ask rory gallagher' , thats a fact , from 1972

  • @rpurdy777 not bad a jimmy hendrix died September 18, 1970....i have seen the same quote ..though

  • Hey, i think it was actually slash that said that about Rory??.. Not sure if it was, but im pretty sure :)

  • I actually can't bear to see like he was there

The 70's best years of his life

  • Do anyone here got some guitar tab on the intro he is playing? (A)

  • he was the most ROCK N ROLLA!!!!!! greetings from HELLAS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rory went, but, this guy deserves a better place in rock history!

  • words fail to express the feelings that well up inside when I hear Rory ....the genius of the man ..the passion ...the humility ...in a world bursting with ego's ..here was a man with more talent in his little finger than most so called guitar greats ..yet he remains largely unknown ...its a great shame but maybe a blessing

  • He was just a modest , unassuming gentleman .... I agree . His dignity and intelligence shine through in his music .

  • what are the first chords he plays its drivein me nuts!

  • i think these chords are from rodrigo.

  • Brings tears to my eyes.

  • me too .....

  • Simply the best!!!

  • I saw Rory when first came over to UK in Taste in the late 60s in Romford Essex.

Knocked us all sideways and still does, thanks to the tube for the early footage, brings back the good times

  • lucky you seeing Rory- i never did :(

  • Wow! He really got bloated near the end. He was such a lean guy. What a damn shame he passed away. I would love to have seen him open for a band like the Stones, so i could walk out after his set was finished

  • They wanted him after Mick Taylor bailed but he was far less interested in making millions than he was in making music. Its prob better that way because as great as the stones were, watching them now is fucking tragic. The Stones are the worst Rolling Stones tribute band on earth!!

  • @jackcharltonslad Ha! You hit the nail right on the head on that one! Besides, Rory is his own man. To be in the Stones you gotta be part of the back line unless you're Mick or Keith. Rory would have been used the same way Mick Taylor was. Just as a session guy who gets his face on the cover of the record and the left side of the stage, but little more. It's also why Jeff Beck declined the position they were offering and it was the right decision for him as well.

  • @RubHerSoul1 Haha! Thanks man! Youre dead right! Although I must credit Bill Wyman for saying that the Stones are the worst Stones tribute band on earth! Always thought that was a great line!

  • @jackcharltonslad Well he should know. I think that's the main reason he split. He was probably saving his money until he had enough to leave with some dignity. He usually assembles some famous friends and plays old Blues and Rock standards in smaller venues now. Sometimes Charlie and Mick Taylor show up to play.

  • @jackcharltonslad Bill Wyman also 'did a runner' as he too wasn't allowed much input into the bands direction by..... 'The Glimmer Twins'

  • @RubHerSoul1 it was the steroids crooked doctors gave him for his liver damage. he trusted his doctor too much, combined with a few too many....brilliant man, there will never be anyone to match him..., too soon he left, damn shame

  • @jimmyzeeweed it's always those fucking meds they pump every one with! Started with Keith Moon i believe. I want to get Gerry McAvoy's book but it's pretty pricey and rare in these parts.

  • @RubHerSoul1 he turned down the rolling stones that'll tell you how good he was and Cream too..

  • @IsCumaFut2 I think he just showed up just to have a friendly jam with them just to say he did. But like Clapton, Beck and a slew of other guitar gods, none were really right for them because they are their own self-contained artists. To join the Stones would mean being a slave to their style which only Ron Wood was right for. And that's not an insult to Ronnie either. You have to have (be) the right tool for the right job so to speak. Rory is his own legend. 'Nuff said!

  • @RubHerSoul1 Can you imagine Keef with Rory on stage showing him up every gig. Would not go over well with Keef. I love the stones and Keef wrote some of the greatest hooks of all time, but he could not hold a candle to Rory as a player. Not sure Mick could have handled it either. Woody was the right choice.

  • @jdesmo4 well, i think when you play a certain song, you lend yourself to the song, so I don't think Rory would be showboating too much on a Stones tune if it didn't call for it. Mick Taylor was in that seat for 5 years and with a few exceptions held his playing down to where it needed to be. The brilliance in the Stones playing (when they're in good form) is how they mix oil and water to create a honey spot like no other. That's the other side of genius playing.

  • Rory Gallagher was the guitarist that made up for other guitarists that never gave their all. He was just simply awesome...raw..,passionate about his music...believed in his music...loved his fans....I just wish that there were more of his type.

  • Rory was absolutely not on drugs, although he drank too much.

  • What is the scars on 1:30 ? is it because of drugs?

  • Yikes! Those marks are scary! It could be from all the trips to the hospital when he had his liver transplant.

  • Gerry Mc Avoy his bass player noticed red patches on his arms in the mid 80's. He never took drugs or even smoked, the guys in the band had to hide it from him when they had the odd joint. He had the liver transplant quickly after the diagnosis so it wasn't related to that.

  • Damn! If only he was a toker instead of a drinker. Nobody ever died from smoking weed. I know, I've tried. LOL! Thank Christ for YouTube, now i can see Rory play anywhere at any time. I think if he had lived, he would have been able to tour here in the states. His brother has been doing a great job keeping his music alive for new fans to discover.

  • If he had've been able to get proper treatment, had've lived, he would've kept on playing, it was all he lived for. He'd become quiet fearful of flying and this affected his willingness to tour. He'd done several world tours but prefered the smaller venues to stadiums.

  • 5.12-6.25!!pure rory!!!

  • what an amazing intro...well done!

  • Caught Rory a few times back in the mid 70's he was one of the greats. One of those rare guys that gave it his all each and every time he hit the stage. His worn jean jacket, jeans, shoes, weathered Strat and unreal guitar work are forever etched in my mind

  • I love this version of Tatoo'd lady..it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up..He just got better and better the older he got..like a fine wonderful wine..Ahh..:)

  • Today is the 14th of June - exact 14 years ago in 1995 Rory died !

A bid loss for everybody who loved him.

My only comfort is, that i can listen to his music every day.

    Rory - we don't forget you !!!

  • This is an incredibly poigant last exhibition of Rory's genius. It is so rich and clear for those with ears to hear.

    Much missed; never forgotten.

  • we miss you Rory!

  • enorme!!!!!!ce solo toujours la meme sensation a l' ecoute merci mister rallagher.

  • has anyone got tab's for the intro here.. its class..

  • he was really sick indeed, but his style still shines a lot. I'm Italian and not seeing him at the pistoia blues... when he was so close... was really sad for me, since i love Rory's music.

  • Eventhough he is realy ill at this moment in time, you see him giving all he got. I do admire him so much for that and for not giving up, and stay this great musician we all cherish and love. The only thing I don't like are the people who think they have to judge this video one way or another.....

  • wow he is totalu broken out in hives 1:26 into it you can see his ristes for a few secens and they are covored.

    how did he die?

  • Yikes! you are right. Rory died from a "chest infection" soon after getting a liver transplant. Too bad no one was around to watch over him. He had health issues and it looks like he may have been over-medicated by too many doctors due to too many symptoms and too many kinds of pills to "cure" him.

  • It's really sad honestly.

I have nothing but the utter most respect for the man. A true idol to me.

  • 1 year later Rory is dead! :(

  • what a special strat!warm stringiness the best uneffected strat i've heard.

  • I guess it's true ,only the good die young,how sad,what a talented young man he was.x

  • I love this version. Sick but still the best. His voice sounds different here, kind of "gruff" for lack of better words. In a way it sounds better though.

  • I know he was near the end, a lot of people slate his performance with this line up, but i really love this version of Tattoo'd lady

  • Rory still going hard-out in 94! i saw in 1980 in new zealand.

Gerry is a better than this guy, the bassist here just simply going through the motions it seems

  • I liked the heavy metal Rory as well, but hated the bass player. Gerry was da best!!!!

  • No rip.. Rory is not dead.. he is here.. always. We have to keep him in the conscious of as many as we can. SO stupid that everyone knows some high school musical or teenybopper pop of the moment....Rory was... IS the best.. he never played the same thing the same way twice. Always in the moment.. living it by the soul. ... what a player... what a guy

  • Nah, this was on his way down. He was way too reliant on heavy chords by this stage and the intricacy, bluesiness and vocals had sadly all gone by this stage. Still a legend, though.

  • Another superb version from the legend that is RORY.

  • gr8!

  • magnifique jusqu'à la fin .

    merci rory.

  • a true performer to the very end. never a dull moment with rory.

  • excellent for ever

  • I can't think of a more natural rocker than Rory. His blood group was B flat!

  • I am totally amazed with Rory's talent, I was living in Ireland when he was alive but never heard him. I am very upset that no one introduced me to his music. Rory has got me into lots of stuff from blues to some heavy rock tunes. In reading the posts on his videos its incredible how people love his music so much and yet he was never the big star. He is just music without all the bull, I get shivers watching his live videos, I wish I'd seen him live.

  • gets into your soul.

  • this is my favourite version of this song

  • De las diez mejores guitarras de la historia

    The Best

  • even close to his end the show no less awesome than before. Still rocks the house

  • giant guitarist- love his music

  • Seeing this kind of makes me feel bad--Rory is near the end in this video. Sadly, his body failed on him, but even close to the end, he could wake a crowd up a hell of a lot better than anyone else anyone has ever seen!

  • Your so right. His spirit is as powerful as ever, and it shows in his playing! Its tough to watch knowing this was close to the end ... on this planet anyways :)

  • best guitarist ever...just wear a horrible shirt on that night. the old worker shirt of the 70s he had would have been even better lol

  • Magnifique ...Rory !!!!

  • Magic!! :)
