  • OK, now I'm convinced this weapon is at least usable. I still don't find it practical though.

  • Metal Blades are for pusies. Top Spin is the best fucking weapon in the series. >:O

It would be even better if the developers of MM3 had put some time into the game.

  • he just own Shadow Mans Stage With Top Spin Killer

  • the problem with top spin is that sometimes the amount of damage done & the amount of energy used VARY DEPENDING ON THE COLR OF YOU FREAKING UNDERWEAR OR SOME OTHER FORM OF RANDOMIZED BU*****TERY. don't randomize my weopens. i want do do consistent damage for a consistent amount of energy. not one hit kill shadowman for no energy in his stage, then do 3 dameage and waste my entire bar of f***ing enrgy

  • @Blitzkreig54 The energy drains if you use Top Spin during the invincibility period after getting hit.

  • @Blitzkreig54 Top spin 1shots 50% of all the enemies in this game, and only drains 1 energy per attack, i understand that u can drain all the energy from top spin, that only happens on the enemies that is immune to it, or the bosses, the thing is, i dont think its possible tho to use top spin on bosses without getting it, but if u use it, only use it SIDEways as far as possible, if u spin inside too close in the bosses, then all the energy would be drained (dont spin when the bosses flinch)

  • Holy. Freaking. Shit.

  • pwn'd by a ballerina doesn't say "Deadly robot ninja guy"...

  • the problem with top spin, imo, is the part where u hurl yourself at the opponent.

  • And yet, in Megaman 8-bit Deathmatch, Top spin makes you a spinning blur of insta-kill goodness.

  • i don't think nintendo exists

  • Bah! I used to use Top Spin non stop! It was one of my favorite weapons in the game!

  • Well if you're trying to avoid collision damage I guess this is the way to go.

  • Dude, it has NO range and I don't care how awesome you are at wielding it but for everyone else it only exists as the "final boss" weapon.

  • now i have an idea of what weapon would "ballet man" give to megaman when defeated

  • time to go for a "spin"!

  • spark shock still sucks

  • The first time I tried using Top Spin, I didn't know you had to jump to use it, so I kept dying at Shadow Man xP

  • Really, I never found melee weapons usefull in any Mega Man game (not counting the Net Warrior series, becaus that isn't really Mega Man ^^°), except to beat acertain boss with them.

  • Top Spin is a pretty good weapon. If you want useless, look at Aqua Man's Water Balloon.

  • @animegamingdude Or Spark Man's Spark Shock. Then there is a major useless weapon like for example, Wild Coil.

  • I appreciate your skills, but your video just proves you can use it just like any other weapon. It's still not a very useful or practical weapon.

  • I've known Top Spin is actually good for a while, but this video has revealed just HOW good it is. I've also discovered that to avoid the energy drain glitch, just make sure you're not INSIDE an enemy when attacking them. The collision detection is strange and it thinks you're continually hitting the enemy if you're inside it, and it seems to drain 1 unit for every hit, so non-stop hitting equals non-stop draining.

  • I still can't get pass the fact that "Top Spin" can kills such hard boss like shadowman and omega in 2 fking hit. Anybody agree

  • Top Spin isn't a bad weapon, it's just seldom ever the best choice for the situation.

  • Meh. Top spin still sucks

  • I don't think the Top Spin is a "bad" weapon, but it is a bit broken. In my experience it either it uses next to no energy or a ton in one shot. Plus the fact you have to be in close proximity to a target and the timing has to be just right... well, it isn't exactly practical.

  • power stone isnt bad either. just jump over your enemy and use it when you are right on top

  • Or you could just not bother switching weapons and kill it with the Mega Buster before jumping.

Power Stone isn't worth learning how to aim because it has no affinity for anything. Its attack power is equal to an uncharged Mega Buster shot, and if you're using it to hit something outside of the Mega Buster's attack range, Gyro Attack is always better in terms of power, speed, and convenience.

  • @qzecwx True, true, Gyro Attack is WAY better. I guess I'm just saying that, while there aren't many uses, it's not so hard to use.

  • @qzecwx Power Stone is actually one of Darkman's weaknesses, and I found it easy to use.

  • A weapon that destroys Hard Man's gorillas in one hit is officially a friend of mine.

  • I thought if you just grazed shawdowman with the top spin you could more likely avoid damage.

  • MM2GB version only.

  • @qzecwx No, that works on this version too i believe.

  • I love top spin.

    I love you now.

  • Okay, having bought and played MM3, I now believe you.

As a melee weapon, it can hit some of the enemies that make certain jumps difficult... like you showed in your video.

I wouldn't be surprised if people said it sucked because of the glitch.

  • Ah, Top Spin. It was actually my favourite weapon in the game.

  • Sorry for asking but whats with the little new controller that shows the buttons you press at the bottom? I don't remember seeing that anywhere before.

  • Um... yeah, that pretty much is still an awful weapon. Half the enemies are immune to it and it only kills the easiest ones, and you have to get right next to them to do it? No thanks, I'll pass.

"It's important to know beforehand what can be damaged with Top Spin and what can't."

If the weapon is so limited that you have to study the game beforehand to find out what enemies are immune to it, it's NOT a good weapon. Fact.

  • @drunyon214 All weapons have their strengths and weakenesses. Even Metal Blades can't cut through everything...

  • Ha, finally someone else who wasn't afraid to experiment. The best part is that isn't all the Top Spin is capable of! It also kills the dragonflies and the junk throwers from wily stage 4 in one hit.

I still wouldn't recommend using it against the junk throwers, the melee range is a liability against them.

  • the top spin is overrated

  • @morrisandlola

If anything, it's underrated. No one likes it, but it can be used quite effectivly, especially on falling enemies (like those parachute guys)

  • I used to think it sucked, but after watching PinkKittyRose's videos and using it myself, I love it.

  • OH I GET IT

Those globes on the ceiling are a reference to MM2's final boss

  • Top spin is the most stylish way to pause mid-air while the screen scrolls!

  • you missed the dragonflies

  • Wow.

I had no idea it was _THAT_ effective against almost everything in shadowman's stage. To think I have been torturing myself all this time, considering it a niche weapon with little application. And for what? Mere ignorance, but not prejudice (I think a spinning lariat pwns and MM should have it in MarvelVsCapcom). I am never playing through this stage again without it. It would go so much smoother and faster this way I think.

    Thanks qzecwx.

  • I grew up with Mega Man. When I was a kid, I always thought Top Spin was awful. But I recently watched an LP, and the LP'er showed me the awesome power of Top Spin and now I use it frequently. I think part of the bias comes from that it's a bit glitched (when you use it against Shadow Man or anything it can't destroy in one hit), and there's a bit of a recoil on it, so if you're not careful you might find yourself using it then falling backward into a pit.

  • The glitchiness is my biggest problem with the weapon; experimentation with the weapon is usually rewarded with being damaged or knocked into a pit.

I've played around enough to know that it can be useful, but most of the enemies I would use it on are more safely and easily dispatched with another weapon. I'm still not totally convinced, but your videos make a very good argument.

  • no weapons suck in mm3 but spark shock

  • I knew that it had more use than it was made out to be, but I didn't know it was THAT useful. So many deaths from those little jumping things could have been avoided.

Mecha Keros, that's what they're called.

  • i don't think the top spin is bad but i don't think its great either. its good for getting out if your cornered, but it pisses me off when i wastes away.

  • lol, Mega Man doing the spin.

  • This is capcom's gift of close range fighting. Enjoy it.

  • Very impressive.

    Who would had thought...

  • makes the game feels like SMB :)

  • Ballet spin lol

  • How is he using it and not dying?

    MAGIC I SAY

  • i can never make it further than like the part where you fight the mini boss dude lol beating this level victory!

  • I will admit that Top Spin is pretty good. But it will occasionally glitch out due to something with the collision and drain every bit of your Spin Energy

  • happened to me several times and i died at that moment xD

  • @SEGPED

Don't use it against enemies that are immune to it. Top Spin only uses energy if it hits something. If it hits an enemy immune to it, it'll use energy. If you keep on using it on the same enemy, especially after you got hit, then you'll blow your entire load.

  • @SEGPED that happens if you're inside the enemy when you're attacking it.

  • @SEGPED That only happens if you use it while invincible. Not a glitch.

  • @EliroX904 no, it happens when you're inside an enemy.

  • @animegamingdude Well you DO have to be invincible to be inside an enemy

  • @EliroX904 true (unless you're using a Game Genie).

  • was there ever a part 2?

  • Hm. The only reason I didn't use Top Spin that much is because one use always drained 1/3 of its energy bar. I found that odd and energy consuming. That's the only reason I never used it. Maybe there was an error with my game or something...

  • That bug affects every normal copy of Mega Man 3.

What most people don't get is that it's 100% preventable.

  • How?

  • Don't hit things while you're blinking after you've been hit, especially if that enemy doesn't take damage from Top Spin anyway! (It's only a good idea on a couple of fortress bosses.)

  • @qzecwx

It's not a bug; it's how the weapon is programmed

As long as Top Spin's hitbox is in contact with an enemy, it will drain energy at a rapid rate. Normal enemies die instantly, taking only 1 pip of energy. But bosses take more hits than that, draining energy fast with their post-damage invincibility

  • It's programmed to be bugged, then. They obviously didn't want it to freak out against bosses like it does in MM3, otherwise they wouldn't have fixed it in GB2 and Wily Wars.

  • @qzecwx

OK, I've never played the GB or Genesis versions, so I don't know how it works in those versions. But it's not so much a "bug" as it is a VERY fast drain rate that can be interrupted by you getting hit (seriously, it's like 3 full energy meters per second!! But it rarely goes for more than 5 frames before the boss hurts you and interrupts the Spin)

  • @GreatFox42

Responding to a year old comment, the Energy is only drained when you in your invincibility state. It counts at multiple hits.

  • @DriveInTake Could you elaborate a bit more on that? I don't think I follow.

  • @GreatFox42

    Certainly.

When you are using the Top Spin like normal, it always takes 1 pixel of energy.

When you're fighting a boss that doesn't die in one hit, you go into your invincibility state. While invincible, the hit detection is off and it counts as several hits instead of just one. And that is why the energy is inconsistent.

..Other times it'll be nice and use the normal amount of energy it's supposed to.

That's about as clear as I can get with the explanation.

  • @DriveInTake Ah, that makes sense now. Thanks for clearing that up.

  • that spin there is bound to mess up players trying to hop on the platforms if they don't know how to use it.

  • Most people probably also think this weapon sucks because they just don't know how to use it, basically.

  • Top Spin has a special place in my heart partially because it's the final boss's weakness, and partially because Top Man was my first Robot Master.

  • So Top Man took your robot master virginity?

  • Yes. *blush*

  • Dude, you got Megaman skillz!! I never played it enough. I was more of a Super Mario 3 guy.

  • this dude own megaman 3

  • hmmph, thats true, I always forget about that one. And you DO pretty much need it to kick wavemans ass, so i guess charge kick is pretty cool to

  • You actually can beat protoman with top spin but only if you attack him from the upper behind.

  • I'm sure you've seen it yourself when Top Spin is used incorrectly, it drains ALL of the energy in one use and only hits once, the rest of the time Shadow Man is in invulnerability state. That is the main reason people don't like using it. I haven't been very good at using it either.

  • top spin is awesome. but because it was turned down by fans we may never see a melee weapon for megaman again. thanks a lot.

  • Well, there was the Slash Claw in MM7 and Flame Sword in MM8...

  • MM8 was Absolute shit but I thought MM7 was pretty sweet.

  • Meh, maybe im just one of those haters. I prefer this guy to stay in 8-bit. i can see why people would like 7 though

  • What about Pluto's Break Dash from MMV on gameboy?

  • I don't think Top Spin is a good move. It certainly looks like a fun move though. But anyway I usually just use the mega buster.

  • I love it. All you have to do to shadow man is give him a hug with top spin.

  • BEYBLADE.

    Sorry.

But anyway. Wow. I sucked so much at using Top Spin I thought it was a crappy move. Drained all my weapon energy and did abysmal damage. Guess I was using it too late or too early.

  • Top Spin is indeed an awesome move. People need to use it more.

I particularly found it to be a godsend against those damn frog enemies. Mostly because Needle Cannon is one of the last powers I get in the standard stages.

  • Top spin is horrible against shadow man though. Its impossible to not get hit, even if that is his weakness.

  • If Megaman joins the next Smash game, he better have Top Spin as one of his attack, preferably aerial attack.

  • you just changed my mind about the topspin. I'm gonna give it another try now.

  • i've always been one to use the items and weapons that make the game the funnest, and i remember trying to use top spin, but i was fairly poor at it. how are you able to use it without taking dmg, like wheres the hit box for it? and is it possible to hit shadowman without getting hit?

  • Mega Man's whole body is the hitbox. Actually it's probably slightly larger than his body because Top Spin takes priority over collisions with enemies.

You never take damage if Top Spin destroys the enemy in one hit; and if it can't destroy the enemy in one hit, the enemy is either immune to the attack entirely or a boss... or both. It's important to know beforehand what can be damaged with Top Spin and what can't.

And, no, when using Top Spin, you can't beat Shadow Man without taking damage.

  • I've always loved top spin!^^ it's useful in other levels too! and the hit box is actually in front of mega man.

and actually, you can beat shadow man without taking damage using topspin, try stopping just as you're about to collide with him, so that you're just barely not touching him, you damage him and can move back unscathed!^^
