furthermore claiming that going beyond 90 degrees at the knee is the safest way to apply resistance is idiotic, beyond 90 degrees the stress on the platella tendon reaches its peak, yes the hammies and but are loaded at this point, but their is a reason you guys wear knee braces when you compete, and its not for fashion, its cause you are doing something very dangerous, which should only be attempted by pros,
the point is that a very select portion of the population is capable of doing a proper full squat, a full squat is a complex movement which has to be properly worked up to. the general population should not go lower than they can go with good form, and they shouldnt be doing them at all until they can do them right, the point is not everyone is physically capable of doing a deep squat and telling someone to go down, cause its "safer on the knees" BS proper form and controlled movement is safest
wow, those knees bend straight out to the sides, not front and back, ouch, as for you idiots that think you have to reach parallel, have fun with them knees when they wear out, i know most of you dont have the proper form to be hitting parallel
@dsingleton1000 actually no if you do not have perfect form going that low is dangerous and will destroy your knees, it is not better for you knee for you to go lower, that makes no sense, and any physical therapist will laugh in your face for making that assertion, so if you have perfect form great for you, but since i doubt you do, shutup and sit down
@MrKombuchaman no your wrong do quarter squats can over develop your quads and under develop your thighs then you will have knee problems you dumb fuck, go look at my channel i have a 325, squat video on there. its not the best but that was about 6 months ago and have fixed a few things since then
@dsingleton1000 actually the quads are a major component of the thigh muscles, maybe you should take a look at anatomy, second squats are not the best leg exercise because they are so hard on the platellar tendon, not as hard on the knee as a leg press machine, once again another muscle head that thinks squats are the best leg workout, how about doing deep knee bends, bent knee deadlifts, and single leg squats, hack squats, etc... all of which put less pressure directly on the platellar tendon
@MrKombuchaman but then if you where actually knowledgable you wouldnt have piped any way since my first comment pointed out that most of the population doesnt have the form to do the squat correctly, in other words shutup and sit down
@MrKombuchaman I'm saying when you are squating down once you go down low that is when your glutes and hamstrings get more activated in the life and wont create an imbalance in the leg, and i hope your not a personal trainer, front squats/back squats best leg exercise in the world, there is sooo much information in the world to prove that.
@dsingleton1000 wow, you really dont know anything, first of all squats gonna build your hamstrings at all, not at all got it? second there are much better exercises that focus on the glutes, specifically deadlifts/good mornings/ lunges being the best everywhere leg exercise, and yes i am a personal trainer, and yes i saw your deadlift video where you have the most rounded back i have ever seen without a disk popping out, you dont know form, and you dont know kinesiology
@dsingleton1000 better for your knee in what way, how, and for whom, oh your talking about a very select population which can actually pass a flexibility test
@MrKombuchaman Why don't you show us all how it's done? I've been squatting for over 30 years and can still squat over 500 and my knees are great ... You do actually lift don't you ? Talk is cheap ......
@LRGHMN GREAT, you obviously have proper form and most importantly the flexibility to do so with out hurting yourself, "talk is cheap" so is the body of your lifting partner if your dont take into account body mechanics, and going below parallel is not better for your knees than doing a partial squat, this proven by the fact that partial squat movements are safer for the average american because their knees are not built for it, yeah id be happy to show you, just tel my local gym to let me tape!
@LRGHMN and thats how i found out about the no video rule, dont worry ill eventually get some full-on demo videos up, im getting my USAW cert this january, working on a kinesiology degree, and personal trained way back in the day, just lost 65 lbs that crept up on me doin 3 years of construction inspection so i got a long way to go before i catch up to what I used to be, but I know my body mechanics which is why I have never let any client do squats until at least two months of preparatory work
He's flailing his knees out so his ROM is even less. This is putting MASSIVE torsion force on his knees and doing next to nothing for his glutes and quads.
They are called partials. Look it up. People use them with heavier weights than they can do a full range of motion movement with to expose the body and joints to the weight. Yeah he isn't lifting a lot but you don't know is story. Stop sweatin other guys and start lifting some weights.
best comment on this page. Seriously, what if this dude is rehabing himself from an injury that prevents him from going full ROM. At least he is attempting to squat. Something I cant really say about 99% of most people I see at the gym who are all Upper body with absolutly no wheels.
Squatting like that is very common in a lot of gyms. I see plenty of retards at my gym loading up the bar with around 500lb squatting maybe 2 inches down then popping back up. I hate squatting next to these people because in a way it makes me feel weak but then I remember that theres no chance these guys can even come close to parallel or deeper if they are struggling so much to pop down and up 2 inches.
Saw someone do this at my gym last week. 135 lbs on bar, 4 inch ROM. Then he had the nerve to add more weight until he had a plate pyramid on each side. Good grief...
@kamratframjandet squats require your hip to go lower then your knee , anything above that is not a squat at all and squats done incorrectly are in fact very bad for the knees so most people assume squats are bad for the knees. most gym experts arent experts at all and neither am i but there is a lot of good information out there, try searching dan john, jim wendler, mark rippetoe to find solid training info. there are money others of course. hope i helped
@jtoddjb Thanks! Yeah I'm not going to any gym, one of the reasons being that alot of people at the gym arent very helpful, and just laughs behind your back when you're using the gear in the wrong way ;)
how do u know he's never torn his ACL or patellar tendon in the past and just doesn't want to risk re-injuring it by doing full squats? Not likely but it's possible
this is just normal gym squats. 95 % off gym members squats this way. They do it because the have to use ridiculus light weights if they squat properly.
im inflexible as fuck due to a knee injury during football, but even i with my fucked up knee am still able to go down lower than this dude... and why the hell is he using chains? is he trying to look like a total bad ass? dude put muscle mass on then use chains! but for now leave the chains to US bad asses
this is what bodybuilders call full squat. See it everyday in my gym. None of them have ever seen olympic weightlifters to go all the way down I guess. No doubt that even pimp can put up 450lbs like that. Try to get out of the hole like oly lifters. Whole a lot different story.
This is pretty much standard squat form in public gyms. I used to try to explain things to people like this but it's a pointless effort. Let them squat as they please. Eventually they will either get bored with their poor results or get injured. Either way they will no longer be occupying the squat rack.

@msfattytrollbitch HEy fatty, STFU. These squats should only EVER be performed if you are coming back from injury / surgery. He should just use the bard and go just deeper than parrallel. You shouldn't give out advice. This isn't even half squats. Most of the stress is in his lower back because of his forward tilt.
@DynaGormod no, his posture is absolutely terrible. He's keeping his back completely vertical rather than just straight and his stance is far too narrow for the width of his hips. Look at how far forward his knees are going, and the angle of his shins in relation to the floor. He's not sitting back into the squat at all. He's not doing partials, he just can't squat. I never mentioned anything about speed. I also have no idea why anybody would video another person in the gym like this. Its creepy
Im 6'8 and even i go farther down than that. There is a case to be made for partial reps though if it was like total burnout time. I didnt really see that though from this guy.
@petegriswold K there's nothing that a pussy squat does that a full squat can't do for vertical jump. In fact the full squat would be much better for training for VJ cuz breaking parallel hits the posterior chain (glutes and hams).
wow.. no offence but sonda you suck big time. you really don't have anything better to do than make videos of other people training at your gym and uploading it on youtupe commenting how "wrong" they're doing it? not to mention that depending on what he was trying to achieve he may not have been doing it all that wrong. get a life and stop using youtube to flame other people
@UberKrassMann no matter what you want to achieve, good technique is paramount. Regardless of depth this guys squat technique needs some serious work. I agree with the other part though, seems to me that the guy videoing this could have gone over and given some advice on squat technique and improving depth rather than taking the piss out of him. Or at least alerted a gym trainer to the situation so they could help out.
or maybe you should ask him what hes training for, because if he says im doing power squats then thats perfect form, funny how you have time to criticizes him on weight lifting but i didnt see you doing anything in the video
this could be partial squats , i do them sometimes when im overloading , but the weight doesnt look like an overload , and his form said that he doesnt know what a partial squat is , so .. yeah
i know some people who wouldn't be able to do full range squats due to knee problems or from having a knee replacement...so, no reason to single him out and and make fun.
Everyone's body is built a little differently, some have short legs and can squat easily, others have long legs which make it more difficult to go parallel. If it really is just bad form, well I think I can say that anyone who lifts has been in his shoes at one time or another when we first started.
this is what we at our gym call ''somalia style squating'' nothing racial about it. it just that they all do same style with a shit load of weights on the bar, combined with alot of screaming
sometimes people put excersises with short range of motion in to their workouts. By doing this with a heavier weight he he increasing his strength in the last part of the movement.
It's half squat. Nothing special. Get some education! Read Weider's or Arnold's books and shut the fuck up. It is so pathetic when stupid guys think that the only way to build or strenghten a muscle is full range of motion. The best mass builders are far away from full range. Bench press, chins... Even if you do them correctly, they are nowhere from real full range. It's not about range of motion. The intensity is what builds muscle. You can even build a muscle without moving (isometrics).
When i do strength training really heavy i do them like that. The higher the weight the lower reps should be and the smaller the ROM has to be.Putting yours knees under intense pressure isn't good on the tendons. For growth i do lighter weights 12-20 reps parallel. This is all before competitions.
Consider the partial squat. How many times in life outside the gym is this movement used, and in this range of motion? A lot! Why would you only train this partial range of motion with the low weight used of full range squats when you could restrict the range of motion to what you really need and increase the weight so that you can really develop strength in that range of motion?
Because if you use a small range of motion you are mostly working your quads when squats should be a full body exercise. Also you put more strain on the knees if you don't go parallel, your knees are strongest in a fully flexed position. It's why people fuck up their knees doing partial squats and then go around preaching to other that "squats ruin your knees"... no they don't, using bad form does though and not using a full range of motion
@HlynurS The Partial squat was recommended to me by a physical therapist. He claims that full range wears out the patella. I never lock out my legs during a squat. I do both full and partial and never have a problem, and I’ve been doing this for decades. If you don’t like squat partials, then using bands is a good way to go.
It's hard to tell what weight he's got there, but chances are he's doing a partial. Partials are meant to be done shallow, but with BIG weight (more that you can max with for a full-depth sqaut). They are great for getting used to handling bigger weights.
I'm glad you said this. YouTube is so completely full of Fantasy Experts that most hardly know a single thing. You're right: some types of training do specifically use partial squats. Based on his balance, this guy doesn't look like he's doing intentional partials, but you never know. The bigger point is just that people on YouTube are quick to record and post videos of stuff they "think is wrong" without actually knowing anything. Culture of stupidity.
god i hate kids like this. i put all this weight on and do great from then i see some kids looking at me out the corner of his eye and put the same weight as me and do this type of squat in this video. then he gets done , looks at me, and is like yea bitch thats right
@t5239857289578947594 and a look at his squat form would explain how he got that injury in the first place. He needs someone to teach him how to properly squat.
@SkInHoUnD i had knee problems, broke my left leg when i was 8 and full depth squats have made the uncomfortable feeling and pain go away, THESE 4" SQUATS """WILL""" give you knee problems
@Alfonso732 At heavy weight they will...but short squats with lower weight and high reps are usually recommended for physio...however a press machine is the most common
I love these guys who have no idea what they are doing, put a bunch a weight on and do half the motion. You are only cheating yourself. I guess if bragging on facebook about "squatting" 305 is your thing, then your a douche bag!

bocaj3400 10 months ago
Im 6'8 and even i go farther down than that. There is a case to be made for partial reps though if it was like total burnout time. I didnt really see that though from this guy.

Could be trying to work on his vertical jump. Thats pretty much the ROM for a jump. Probably not, though
petegriswold 11 months ago
@petegriswold K there's nothing that a pussy squat does that a full squat can't do for vertical jump. In fact the full squat would be much better for training for VJ cuz breaking parallel hits the posterior chain (glutes and hams).
RSixBoy 11 months ago
wow.. no offence but sonda you suck big time. you really don't have anything better to do than make videos of other people training at your gym and uploading it on youtupe commenting how "wrong" they're doing it? not to mention that depending on what he was trying to achieve he may not have been doing it all that wrong. get a life and stop using youtube to flame other people
UberKrassMann 11 months ago
@UberKrassMann no matter what you want to achieve, good technique is paramount. Regardless of depth this guys squat technique needs some serious work. I agree with the other part though, seems to me that the guy videoing this could have gone over and given some advice on squat technique and improving depth rather than taking the piss out of him. Or at least alerted a gym trainer to the situation so they could help out.
GetLifting 10 months ago
or maybe you should ask him what hes training for, because if he says im doing power squats then thats perfect form, funny how you have time to criticizes him on weight lifting but i didnt see you doing anything in the video
duncan6666667 11 months ago
this could be partial squats , i do them sometimes when im overloading , but the weight doesnt look like an overload , and his form said that he doesnt know what a partial squat is , so .. yeah

reminds me of my training partner.

he could've purposely been doing partial squats so we cant really judge unless you asked him

ever heard of partial squats?
Nogard2oo7 1 year ago
i know some people who wouldn't be able to do full range squats due to knee problems or from having a knee replacement...so, no reason to single him out and and make fun.
Everyone's body is built a little differently, some have short legs and can squat easily, others have long legs which make it more difficult to go parallel. If it really is just bad form, well I think I can say that anyone who lifts has been in his shoes at one time or another when we first started.

i have a dumb question.....why do "squats" outside of the rack? is not that the point of the rack?
MagikDick 1 year ago 3
this is what we at our gym call ''somalia style squating'' nothing racial about it. it just that they all do same style with a shit load of weights on the bar, combined with alot of screaming

at the end of the day there is no "correct" way to do exercises just as there aren't any correct ideologies or correct opinions. lol
no seriously, what a doucher and look at all the homos trying to excuse his bad form.

sometimes people put excersises with short range of motion in to their workouts. By doing this with a heavier weight he he increasing his strength in the last part of the movement.
Or, he could just be a fuckin idiot
techn0sailer 1 year ago
hey "thekinetic"... i get full range of motion when i'm dragging my nuts across your mom's face!

TheKinetic 1 year ago
I think it's called the suggested squat, it's new!

Good quad exercise! :D
DazedNConfused01 1 year ago
When i do strength training really heavy i do them like that. The higher the weight the lower reps should be and the smaller the ROM has to be.Putting yours knees under intense pressure isn't good on the tendons. For growth i do lighter weights 12-20 reps parallel. This is all before competitions.

Consider the partial squat. How many times in life outside the gym is this movement used, and in this range of motion? A lot! Why would you only train this partial range of motion with the low weight used of full range squats when you could restrict the range of motion to what you really need and increase the weight so that you can really develop strength in that range of motion?
Kreimehn 1 year ago
@Kreimehn
HlynurS 1 year ago 3
@HlynurS The Partial squat was recommended to me by a physical therapist. He claims that full range wears out the patella. I never lock out my legs during a squat. I do both full and partial and never have a problem, and I’ve been doing this for decades. If you don’t like squat partials, then using bands is a good way to go.

It's hard to tell what weight he's got there, but chances are he's doing a partial. Partials are meant to be done shallow, but with BIG weight (more that you can max with for a full-depth sqaut). They are great for getting used to handling bigger weights.

I've seen bigger legs on a flamingo....
LRGHMN 1 year ago
Nothing wrong with partial sqauts. But only if you know how to full sqaut.
Kreimehn 1 year ago
@Kreimehn

This happens a lot on multiple exercises. I saw a guy the other night doing a 2-3 inch bench press. He was sacrificing form for weight.

Alfonso732 1 year ago
@Alfonso732 At heavy weight they will...but short squats with lower weight and high reps are usually recommended for physio...however a press machine is the most common
SkInHoUnD 1 year ago
I love these guys who have no idea what they are doing, put a bunch a weight on and do half the motion. You are only cheating yourself. I guess if bragging on facebook about "squatting" 305 is your thing, then your a douche bag!
