Anyone notice how a small swastika appears under Hilda's feet when she casts a spell? It makes sense, considering its a symbol of magic and good fortune in Asia, and has existed for several thousand years.
Meh, it's just a swastika. It's a pretty common symbol in Buddhism (Google Maps uses it to denote temples in Japan IIRC). The problem is the Nazis used it for their flag, and now a lot of people get butthurt anytime they see a swastika because they don't realize it's a fairly common symbol found in many cultures throughout history. Swastika =/= Nazi (unless it's specifically being used by a Nazi of course).
I think even the Safe spell in FF6 caused a swastika made of black dots to appear as part of its animation, probably for the same reason (magic. good fortune, protection, etc).
why wikipedia for tales (aselia..., i can't remeber) say flash tear n eclair de larmes aren't related? the incantations for both is nearly the same. and i remember someone told us here eclair de larmes means flash tear.
Eclair de Larmes literally means 'Flash of Tears', and functionally, Tear's Eclair de Larmes is no different than Hilda or Kohak's. It's a ground based glyph that creates a few hits within an area of effect. Is it odd that it got a change to french (along with the FOF Flamme Rouge/Red Flame)? Yes, but the only difference is it's a somewhat smaller area of effect (relative to battlefield size) and hits a couple more times. Otherwise, it's Flash Tear except the name is in french.
Anyone that claims that Eclair de Larmes isn't the same as Flash Tear is just being silly. I also noticed the Aselia Wiki page for Add/Air Pressure isn't the same as Dreaded Wave (the English localization name for Genius/Genis's Add Pressure). Just because the spell name happens to change due to localization (or in Flash Tear's case, an odd style choice to use french naming for Tear), doesn't mean it's not the same spell.
Technically, Air Pressure (エアプレッシャー) has a different name from Add Pressure (アドプレッシャー), but they are identical in function, element, and how they look visually. But really, the only difference is the first two characters in their names are different.
Okay, this is more of a stretch than the Flash Tear thing, since they've actually appeared as separate spells in the same game (Radiant Mythology), but other than one exception, it's safe to consider them essentially the same spell.
I even consider Hilda's Shining Ray to essentially be Ray - just with a slight name change. For instance, functionally it's almost exactly like Ange's version that later appears in Innocence. Ray even changes constantly throughout the series; in Eternia and Symphonia, it's more of a wide angle spray of lasers that aren't really focused, in Destiny Remake and Hearts it gets to be a thin, focused beam targetted directly at the enemy, and Rebirth and Innocence's Ray is a downward spammy spray.
Thanks! That was actually one of the main reasons why I decided to upgrade. ^^ I'll have to add the Japanese to the other exhibitions when I redo them down the road too.
Thank you thank you so much lanyn-san! I've always wanted to see Hilda's magic, but no other Rebith vids I've seen show much (other than Shining Ray abuse).
And always, wicked work on translations. I'd always wondered what she said during Shining Ray (other vids had her voice muffled in the background).
Well well, Cluster Raid and Flash Tear, now we know where Tear got it and L'Eclair d'Arme from :3
And yeah, Hilda's voice is rather low, so I had to turn down the background music and sound effects so that you could hear her properly.
And it's difficult to get Hilda to use her Ougis if you aren't actually controlling her unless you're really good at giving her enough cover (which I'm apparently not).
And I don't know nuthin' about the crossover spells from other Tales games and I certainly don't know any French, so don't ask me. =P
The quality looks fine to me. Although, here's a tip I learned recently which I've been adding to the descriptions of all my videos. Normally if you put &fmt=18 to the end of the URL, the video plays in way higher video and sound quality. For reasons unknown, some videos (like this one) get better quality with &fmt=6 though (which doesn't affect most vids). This video happens to have better textures with &fmt=6 compared to &fmt=18
I wonder what would Hilda's Hi ougi be if she was in Tales of VS.

@wheelalligator I think its a different spell, similar to how Brilliant Lance is different to Holy Lance.

Isnt Flash tear a bit like Eclair de Larmes?
Kevassa02 3 years ago
Flash tear actually translate into Eclair de Larmes in french. :o So yah I'm pretty sure they're the same spell.

Wow, I thought that I was just illusionary or something :P
Thanks dude! I dont know french
Kevassa02 3 years ago 2
I loved the ending for that. Hilda really did seem to pull that off better than Annie.

I I love her voice. I can't wait to get this game.

Hilda has much cooler spells than Mao, but Mao is just so full of win. He has the best weapon ever!^^

I watch this, again and again.
I love Hilda T__T... I want to own a copy of my my own, of ToR not Hilda.. but that still would work. 8D

Man, I want THOSE Frigid Coffin and Light Saber in TotA. :3
EtherealSky 3 years ago
Yeah, although I think the Free Run would kill the effectiveness of the spells a bit. =P
The spells in TotA really are lacking a bit though, which is a shame.

i guess you learn something new. i didnt know hilda was the first to have cluster raid i thought it was tear
bloodfury 3 years ago
Yeah, I didn't realize that Tear and Hilda shared this many spells until other people started mentioning it. I suck at Tales crossover stuff. -_-

Eclair De Larmes is Flash of Tears in French >.>
Not that it's a different spell with similar chant, but the exact same thing.

You're welcome.
Yeah, but then again Hilda is a sexy one, so I guess Sayaka Ohara was asked to keep her voice low for that reason. =P
Point taken. Mages never use every spell they have, even if you have them all turned on in the menu.
Lol, that's okay. Being a Tales fan means you love spotting these things
