The hypocrisy of christianity is there for all to see. How can one claim to be a Christian and take the bible as the holy word when they get to pick and choose which parts of the book they want to obey and discard the rest?
In this day and age, if science successfully proves or disproves something, we revise the textbooks. Revise the bible! It's written by human beings after all, and it can still be re-written by human beings!
@andrian007 I agree but Christians are determined to believe the idea that the book was written by God through people, creating a circle that keeps them stuck in the loop.
@isoptera4: You're absoltely right. Secular law is very good at knowing the difference between the morals that protect a society (no killing, stealing) and those that, quite frankly, are no one's business. The clip demonstrates how some people who claim to live by the Bible's teachings tend to ignore a lot of them. Then again, maybe the world is going to hell because we plant two crops side by side :)

Homosexuals are radical terrorists who want to overthrow the patriarchy Sir. Another liberal defending terrorists. Gee I feel safer already. Why defend those hateful homosexuals who refuse to assimilate into our culture? Disobedient children need punishment.
Let's not forget that the ten commandments came from the old testament, and they are todays guidelines, so they are wrong to? Cool! I guess I'll go steal, kill! Because if it's in the old testament it MUST be wrong!
@thepunishervshulk I think you'll find that only two and half of the ten commandments are actually laws. I guess the ten commandments aren't the basis for our laws then. Not killing, stealing, or perjuring ourselves in court are obvious crimes that need no fictional storybook as justification. If you need that worthless book to justify being a good person then you are quite a broken person. Ignorance is sad.

Martin should have kept his given name from birth instead of insulting the Servant of God, Archbishop Fulton Sheen... Abp. Sheen warned others about FALSE COMPASSION.
just HOW is this false compassion? Archbishop Sheen warned us about having compassion for those who are clearly in the wrong; letting them off without proper justice. Bartlet (a Catholic) is responding to the fundamentalist ideal of taking the Bible literally, even when it conflicts itself and the New Testament and thus the Christian Faith - in short, he is rebuking her lack of context.
Hee hee hee! 'The tight-ass ignorant club'! I heard this episode quoted a lot when it first ran, and it always tickled me. Imagine people picking and choosing which part of the bible they would follow, and then declaring EVERYBODY had to do the same......

While I agree with the sentiment, I hate the way this was written. This was supposed to be a stand up and cheer moment, but Bartlet comes of like a complete dick. What kind of douchebag invites someone into their house and then proceed to humilate them in front of their colleagues?
It was stuff like that made the later seasons of WW intolerable. Aaron Sorkin is pretty much a walking stereotype of liberal elitism that makes the rest of us look bad.
I understand how you could think that. I don't think it was written to show she was invited for the purpose of the exchange, it was her lack of respect for the President that drew his fire. Having been to the White House on a couple of occasions under different administrations, guests for a "Presidential Event" are almost always briefed in "Protocal" which includes the direction to stand and remain standing while the President is standing unless he invites you to do otherwise.
@LoveNot8 It was not her "lack of respect" that drew the president fire, it was her politics. The writer for the West Wing Aaron Sorkin is a devout liberal and used the West Wing to showcase his stand on various political issues (homosexuality, gun laws, prayer in schools, etc)
President Bartlett would have laid into her whether she stood or not - the scene was written SPECIFICALLY to "dress down" the Dr Laura character and humiliate her ideas for all the TV viewers to see.
@utube9000 you must not know Presidential customs and courtesies. Would you sit when a Judge enters his court room? Then Why not the President of the United States. Seems you need to learn some respectful Courtesies... A judge would do the same thing if you didnt stand. Watch courtroom pieces, If you don't, you are put in contempt of court and will get a fine... The President can kick someone out of the building if they don't abide by customs.
@KeiYuuki2011 YES, I understand there is a formal custom to stand up when the President enters the room.
However, this is a TV SHOW, not real life. Everything that happens was WRITTEN by a writer. Arron Sorkin, the writer of the show has a very liberal agenda and he WROTE that character as someone who wouldn't stand up. In real life, this woman would have stood up - but Sorkin wrote the scene this way so the President would have a reason to insult her conservative beliefs.
If you take the Bible Literally, take it ALL literally, and not the pieces that are convenient to your agenda. Organized Religion is Ultimately Flawed, and has Already Failed, its loosing its members at Historic rates, The People of the World are thinking for themselves now. Giving a Challenge on ones beliefs is not insulting, its a Challenge that not a single Christian or Conservative has yet to Bring an intelligent answer to why they believe only in pieces the way they do.
@KeiYuuki2011 I do not take the bible literally and I am not a Christian. I am merely pointing out that the screenwriter Aaron Sorkin is biased against Christians because he is a liberal secular Jew.
(PS - I am assuming that English is your second language. You speak well, but you need to study the rules of punctuation. You are using too many capital letters. Good luck )
@BelieveIt1051 Fuck Bibi, fuck Avigdor Lieberman and fuck every other Likudnik trying to bolster the apartheid state in the West Bank. That asshole should be humiliated at every turn.
@FugityFudd PS: I see you have been on YouTube for 3.5 years. And by looking at the contributions on your homepage, all you have managed to do is (ALWAYS) try to start off with a compliment, only to quickly end with a cowardly back-handed insult. I'll suspect you are of similar behavior in your real life. LOL... good luck with that. And before you care to reply (or not), do consider that I don't give a rat's ass what you think. If things out there are that bad, quit bitching about it and fix it.
@FugityFudd I'm not seeing what's 'liberally elite' about this. He made fair arguments. If he invited her just to humiliate her, which it sounds like he didn't, that's not cool but it has nothing to do with 'liberal elitism' if there even is such a thing.

Exodus 35:2

so for a small time one thing was one way it should always be that way?
as opposed to homosexuality which is listed throughout the bible as an ABOMINATION.
You need to go back and do some homework, if any commandments have a "shelf-life" the who gave you the authroity to decide which ones? Most of all, isn't it between the individual and their Creator?
And where is it written which are laws and which are commandments? Is there a nice handy list somewhere, or do you just do it post-facto like I suspect you do?
So get your calendar. Now notice that on the left, Sunday is listed. Sunday, the first day. Mon=2nd, and so on to Friday the 6th and oh, look, saturday the 7th day, the day of rest.
Screw your hatred of homosexuality. God made all of us, and in some cultures much wiser than Western culture, homosexuals were honored. Get over yourself and practice the parts about 'Love your neighbor' and 'Thou shalt not judge'.
But to address the latter. Greek Civilization crumbled. And the Roman Empire fell... Britannia subdued.
Jesus did give the new commandment of loving one another. But to go against His will/nature is sinful. Agape love may be apparent in GLBT relationships. But the essence of marriage that this community is pushing for is not compatible. Many have the Eros "love".
if the law of man subscribes "gay" marriage, do not feel vindicated. The law of God rules.
Why yes, Jews go to synagogue on Saturday, the cumulation of the week, the day of rest.
And we as a society have decided we will not go to hell for wearing cloth made of two different fibers, and that we will not sell our daughters, and we will not kill our children if they don't obey. It's only a matter of time before we quit discriminating against people based on sexual orientation.
