  • Could I also ask that you seem to be sailing without amas. In your thread on the Hobie forum you show your boat with the amas on but here you seem to be managing very well without. I can also see now that you have the boat well ballasted with a water bag in the front seat which seems to be making the boat point nicely. You are also getting much better boat speed than I can manage. Is that simply from having two sails?

  • @JAPBKAYAKER

I was always reluctant to add outriggers as I thought the drag would drop sailing speed but after owning the AI I appreciated how they limited heel. Hiking out is OK for a short while but can get tiring if doing it all day. I added the sidekicks late in the project and wished I'd used them earlier. They made sailing much more comfortable and set high didn't add much drag. Double the sail area does improve speed though I sail my Adventure at up to 5knots with the small sail and DB.

  • Love this video. Your boat seems to be sailing beautifully. Could you tel lme which Hobie it is as there are three tandems including the Tandem Island. It looks like the new Oasis for 2011? How did you attach the second mast up front. I only ask because it seems to sail better than my 2006 Adventure with it's sail kit and daggerboard.

  • @JAPBKAYAKER

Thanks for that. This was our first Hobie Kayak. It is an 06 Tandem (pre Oasis). Details on the extra sail can be found on the Hobie forums. Search for 'twin sails' and author 'stringy' YouTube won't let me post a direct link.
