Plz answer if somebody knows! When i upgrade my vista ultimate to 7 ultimate , will i keep all my programs, drivers, files and settings?or i will need to install again?
@boyils12008 I thought you could do this with a tool called Anytime Upgrade. The MS site says that this is no longer active and I couldn't find it in my virtual Vista computer. The only other thing I can think of is a new install I'm afraid. Tim
@Computeractive Hi, when I installed Windows 7 after an upgrade from vista at the last part of the installation it said: Installation was not succesful Windows is rolling back to previous version or something like that which really annoyed me after 5 hours of installing it, so I went ahead and did the clean install which took 15 minutes, what causes Windows 7 to roll back to Windows Vista? It really got me annoyed, its happened to lots of people 'upgrading from vista'. PM ASAP, thanks.

@IAmMichaelMyers lets say you have windows vista ultimate then you have to get windows 7 ultimate and lets say you have windows vista home premium then you need windows 7 home premium you cannot pass for windows vista home premium to windows 7 ultimate YOU CAN'T

I installed windows 7 yesterday using clean install, i had vista but i wanted to make a complete restart. when i chose clean it said that i had an installed operating system and that it was going to be moved to a folder called windows.old
when the install was succesfull all my programs was gone but when i open the hardrive C, everything in my download folder etc is still there.
1. did i do a clean install or did i accidently press upgrade?
2. can i simply delete the folder called windows.old?
@heatblade11 Varies depending on your system/hardware. If you run a lot of programs, Windows 7 seem to be able to handle them well compared to Vista. With Vista, there seems to be a tendency for it to become sluggish when there are a lot of programs running, either in the background or installed on your computer. Simply, Windows 7 does a much better job at handling your data/information/applications than Vista. Besides, even a 1Gb memory is sufficient to get Windows 7 running optimally.
@laraguevarra No it won't happen. All your documents and programs will remain after upgrade. However, some programs may be incompatible with the upgrade process but the installer will tell you which programs are incompatible.
Oh... by the bye. Apparently you CANNOT upgrade from Vista Home Premium (64bit in my case) to Win7 Pro 64bit. It will NOT let you do it. So, get that Synctoy (free) program from M$, and get to backing up your files. If you have Firefox, you can use the FEBE extension to back up your entire profile. Once you install Win7 and reinstall Firefox, FEBE will put it back the way it was on Vista... passwords, bookmarks, extensions etc...
i get an error saying : windows could not update the computers boot configuration. installation cannot proceed is their anyway to fix this or go back to vista?
@Sup750 Are you kidding? On a computer that slow (it's as slow and weak as my netbook) you should be running XP or some kind of Netbook Linux, Ubuntu Netbook Remix, Jolicloud etc...
The thing came with Vista. And also, someone told me that he had a notebook with pretty much the same specs and he's happy with it running Windows 7 on it.
@Sup750 Someone lied to you. Ask someone who actually knows a thing or two about netbooks (because that's what you're describing.) The less resource-intensive an operating system is, the better it will run on a netbook. On my netbook (1.6G Atom CPU & 2GB DDR2 RAM) Vista crawled, Win 7 wasn't any better, XP is alright and Ubuntu Netbook Remix and Jolicloud (before they ruined it with the version 1.0 update) scream. That's the bottom line. The choice is yours.
No, I trust the person who told me that. I also told other people my specs and they all told me to upgrade. And the Win7 advisor told me my notebook is up to it. And I said Notebook and not netbook.
@Sup750 Your trust not withstanding, the person (people) who advised you doesn't know that he/she/they is/are talking about. Moreover, a portable computer with a paltry 1.6Ghz cpu and 2GB of RAM is a netbook, even if it was a notebook 6 years ago, it's a netbook now.
Help guys, i am trying to install 7 however i get a driver error to a device that i dont even have! its A Belkin network adaptor. I dont even have the belkin software on my PC anymore so why am i getting this error?
Hi guys, can you help me with an issue i am having with the installation?
I have Windows Vista Ultimate and i am upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate. I choose the upgrade option, wait 5 minutes until it finishes Checking compability and then i get an error saying: There is not enough free space to store temporary Windows installation files.
I have deleted as much as possible files i could. Now i have 135 GB of free hard disk space yet the problem occurs. Can you help me?
@birdman1265 I can't do that neither. It doesn't detect my hard drive. I am not doing a clean install because all my files will get deleted and I have nowhere to backup them, they are too many.
Hi, I have a question about the custom install of window 7. My computer have an OS of window vista home premium 32bits SP2 (3.00 GB RAM) and i want to custom install it to window 7 ultimate 64bits, is it possible? Do i have to format my hard drive in order to do that. If so how can i do it?
no I upgraded from from Vista home basic 32 to Win 7 Ultimate 64 with no problem. It will be a clean install though. So all your files will be gone and games on another harddrive (or partition on the same drive) won't work. Maybe copying your directions folder will help but I just reinstalled the stuff because my pc was new so didn't have much on it and most of them were games.

if you are gonna use 64-bit i recommend having 4gb of RAM
