Now you know that Gran Turismo 1 and 2 was worth mentioning lol. For sake GT1 wasTHE BEST SELLING VIDEO GAME for the console with GT2 being 3rd just being edged out by FF7 =).
ps1 is simply easier to use and have better graphics(wellare less blocky) and have more games and more variety of games and has a normal controller no fuss; and n64 's is to bulky and dumb.has repetitive games eg; mario, and your missing jonah lomu rugby, v-rally
@TheKimaiden Resident Evil is actually what influenced most zombie games, and almost all survial/horror games, like Silent Hill, Call of Duty, etc. The Resident Evil series is also very succesful today, unlike most games.
playstation one is based off of 128-bit hardware, while
N64 is based off of 64 bit... comparing those two, n64 actually places higher, since your comparing two different bit hardware components, you cant really compare which one is better... 64 bit comes from N "64"... i know for a fact that ps2 is 256 bit, so half of that is 128 which is ps1, all game consoles increase by 2 times the increment of previous.
64 had better multiplayer goldeneye, conkers bad fur day, perfect dark, no mercy, mario kart) ps1 better single player (mgs, final fantasy, tomb raider, silent hill, resident evil series). platformers, tough one because the plastation had klonoa, tomba, crash, spyro, but the 64 had mario 64, which is better than all those games combined. ps1 had far better sound effects and music. n64 had better and brighter graphics. the dualshock control owns the 64s control! but in the end the winner is....
Also a fact: All consoles have their own advantages and disadvantages. None is better than any other. All are different. Console wars and console fanboys are both fucking ridiculous.
If you're looking for an awesome RPG on the N64, my highest recommendation would be Hybrid Heaven. Not since have I seen a conventional fighting mode combined with an RPG style turn-based system pulled off so well.
Playstation 1 for sure! The N64 was all children games and other than the Mario series there was nothing. The PS had GTA!!!! FF7 and MGS!!! Each one of those games was the best.
@masonroe157900000 Look i am sorry you had an N64. I am sorry you had to settle for an Elf running around with a sword trying to save a princess. I am sorry that the story line was predictable and dull. Dont take it out on one of the greatest games ever made. But hey this isnt just about FF7. Metal Gear Solid was the best of its genre for its time. GTA was too. What did the N64 have? 90% kids games and a few token shoot em ups...zzzz. So much for that 64bit. What a waste.
@Ygdrasel Fact? Ummm, are you basing opinion as fact? You sound like one of the fundamentalist christians lol. Final Fantasy got the popularity it deserves. Without a doubt.
The best period of gaming history is from 1989-2000 greatest game titles and greatest consoles define this beautiful 11 years of great games we all remember SNES,Sega Genesis,Sony Playstation,Nintendo 64,Sega Dreamcast,Sega Saturn,Game Boy and games like Legend of Zelda,Super Mario,Final Fantasy,Donkey Kong,Chrono Trigger,Sonic,Mortal Kombat,Street Fighter,Final Fight,Ace Combat,Streets of Rage,Comix Zone,Goldeneye,Vagrant Story,Lunar,Breath of Fire,Strike series,Doom,Spyro,Crash and many
"Also, Mario has been on other consoles besides Nintendo F.Y.I., ever heard of the Atari 2600 or the Commodore 64?"
You mean before Nintendo had a console??? hahah. What was that? About 40 years ago. PS wouldn't surive on its own. And its starting to show now with the lackluster ps3. A company that got lucky because they chose CDS and Nintendo didnt. Sony is a travesty which destroyed a great system in the Dreamcast which was inventive and innovative. PS2 sold purely on its name.
@willsmackyoudown I don't know what this argument is about, but Mario and Zelda came out on the Philips Cd-i in the early 90's when nintendo had already made consoles. And playstation 2 was really successful due to dvd technology, but yes the dreamcast was awesome and I am more of a nintendo fan myself, but you got to get your facts straight. The Cd-i was a horrible horrible system, but it was a system none the less.
Phillips Cd-i was not a real competetive console. That's why nintendo let them make THEIR own version of Zelda which is recorded as some of the worst games of all time. Phillps also had a partnership with Nintendo (helping them produce technology) very very rare. The point is you will never Zelda, Mario etc on Xbox of PS. Once again you're not understanding. THOSE ARE 1st party developed games. They belong to Nintendo. PS had games that belong to other companies.
@willsmackyoudown wtf r u talking about? the ps2 was amazing, it had the most amazing games, im not a fanboy but ur a retard if u think the ps2 only sold on its name.
PS2 did sell on its name. The greatest game that came out on PS2 was GTA?? What a piece of shit moronic game. Have you played Metal Gear Solid 2 (the most dissapointing game of all time). Final Fantasy 10 was a great game but noting compared the FFs of the original PS. Shadow of the Colossus was the only innovative game they had. PS2 sold because of its hype, that's why no one bought a PS3. I was alive when all this stuff happened smartass.
@willsmackyoudown why ddnt u explain the games that failed on the n64 buddy, oh its because ur a biased asshole who probably never bought a ps2 or ps3, id have to admit the n64 did sell well and it had good games but nintendo is now shit wich is why theyre lowering the prices on everything
Wrong again genius. I had an original PS, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, PS2, Gamecube, xbox and xbox 360. I loved the original PS. Top 3 greatest game consoles of all time. Still doesnt change the fact that sony got lucky as hell. All the games that failed from NIntendo were 3rd party developers!!! THe only one that did well was Goldeneye.
Still Rare at that time was a 2nd party developer. Which means at that point in time Rare only made videogames for Nintendo lol. Also Perfect Dark, Conkers bad fur day and DK64 were dissapointing. DKracing, Banjo and Goldeneye were the big ones.
@aweseb How do you explain that the wii was sold out for two whole years then if nintendo is "shit", not to mention the games that have miyamoto gave direct input to are among the best of the last decade.
@tcrpgfan wat r u fucking retarded? wthere the fuck did the wii come from? and do you know why its sold more? because its been out longer. fucking retard read all the comments ive posted before u fucking start saying shit
@aweseb I only three quarters agree, clearly his guy never played DMC1, DMC3, MGS3, or any of the other really well known titles for PS2 if he says only shadows of the colossus was original. Hell, some PS2 games were so original, they started their own sub genres. Where he is mixed up on, is that the PS3 only sold on hype. The PS2 did so too, but it had deus ex as a launch title, with ffx, DMC, and MGS2 coming for the syster the following year.
....who is "he"? Are you okay? This is why I told you to stay awake in school. Reading alone isn't enough. You have to comprehend what you read. Anyway, are you originally from another country? Your English has a bit of that non-native pattern that indicates you're still learning it. Well, that or you need to pay more attention in class.
@dunnono00 xD lol sorry i thought that was somebody else i don't bother reading the username and no i was born from miami florida and my parents are cuban XD i'm sorry you can't understand basic english but believe it or not i go to classes with highschoolers :P i'm a 7th grader
I'll give you some much needed advice. First, you've been walking the wrong way to school.
Second, according to my research, legend speaks of a mysterious tool known only as "Google". It is said that if one inputs certain keywords like "N64", they will receive a wealth of information. Only honors students who cannot make a single proper sentence can use it. Go forth, brave one, your quest begins now.
@dunnono00 lol XD your really hilarious are u alright i go to honors classes and shit but its okay that u don't understand basic english one step at a time :) and this is youtube we text smart one XD i have 4.0 in writing and L.A
Isn't that cute, you're copying me now. And who is this "we"? Forgot your medication again? You're still around because... oh, I see, you didn't understand my directions. Let me put it at your level of comprehension.
lol XD XD theres this thing called google :) :) :P and u can use it for u self :P :P XD XD XD XD
@dunnono00 XD i'm copying you your the one that was copying let me put this at your level XD fail sorry unlike you i don't take medication except sometimes for asthma and sorry you didn't understand but WE means youtube community including you but i guess you don't text and XDDDDDDDDDDDD i used google still can't find it usally its a scam why don't u find it sherlock :P
Look at that, you're still trying so hard to copy me. You're like a little Chinese knockoff of me, imitating what I write but without the language & comprehension skills needed to pull it off. It's flattering, but you should try originality. By the way, boy genius, take a look at the comments on this video. You'll notice not many people type in your special way. Now, I know you're the type to get scammed easily, so go to school, and in a few years, you'll be ready for Google.
@dunnono00 ok whatever you say XD its so funny how your trying to make me crack but sorry u can't understand my posts that basically everyone used why don't u use your tool to search up how to text XD don't worry you don't have to thank me but thats how u text chinese knockoff? k i don't know where u come up with your insults but sorry i can't blame you i know i'm not copying but imagine all you want little kid i'm really sorry u don't know how to text but i can teach you :P
@dunnono00 that was racist smart one but i found some n64 for some good prices anaway using a magazine sorry didn't have to use your google tool ill be very happy to play it and i found like 5 fighting games for it XD
Holy crap, I didn't even notice you wrote a little Youtube essay to me. I didn't really read it, because it was just one long jumbled sentence and barely makes any sense. Instead, I'll give you life advice:
Get off the computer and go to school. Basic reading and writing skills are essential in life. Second, don't play your N64. Go outside into the real world. You'll understand what racism is and what a "Chinese knockoff" is. Third, you've cracked.
@dunnono00 ik it was to complicated for you to read it but i don't care it would probably make your brain hurt and i go to skool every day XD and i'm probably more athletic than you i've been playing basketball the past hour i already learned writing and reading in5th grade i just don't use it in everyday life smart one XD are u ok? i never said i had a n64 u got to learn to read my posts a little better but u probably didn't have the logic to understand it i said i never had a n64
@dunnono00 ik what a chinese knock off is its racist and how have i cracked XD forget i'm not going to continue looking like a retard is embarrasing talking to you
@dunnono00 basically the entire youtube community knows how to text but you don't feel left out u can use that tool you were talking about i know you need it use it to learn how to text but no thanks i don't need google to find answers its called reading books or reading magazines but slow down thats way to complicated for you i don't need comprehension right know cuz i'm not in school smart one XD its okay you can be a nerd in utube if you want but i recommend to have a life like right NOW XD
how can u compare n64 with the king of all consoles? lol even sega saturn had better games than n64. N64 was winning the battle for the first few years but in the late 90s when final fantasy 7, mgs, re2 came out, things were different...everyone started to buy the ps1. all my frens had ps no one had n64...lol
@MessageInBlood1 The Sega Saturn is actualy a pretty sweet system I do like some of the great 2D games on it but the N64 as a pice of hardware is one of Nintendos worst systems the only thing worse is the Virtual Boy
@thelongtimemagic N64 was one of Nintendo's worst systems? Wow, you truly missed out some of the greatest games ever. Don't you think its weird that when you search "N64", then "PS1" on YouTube, "N64" gets double as much results than PS1, even though PS1 sold 70 millions more than N64 and that PS1 has over 2000 more games than N64? And there has been several of remakes of N64 games on newer systems, but NONE on the PS1
@TheRealHackmaster Sorry bro but the N64s a steaming turd no matter how strong its first party titles are, I'm not talking about the games or popularity i'm talking about the system itself and the systems a turd, The design is highly rushed causing an separate expansion pack, The revoloutionary controller itself is horrid I am yet to find a non ruined N64 controller even if i found one thats not fucked its 3 prong design is still awkward and uncomfortable
@thelongtimemagic If you think the controller is uncomfortable, then you haven't played N64 games long enough, or you've probably never touched one at all! If you played Ocarina of Time all the way to the End, or if you mastered Star Fox 64 or if you've played the AWESOME Multiplayer 4P Super Smash Bros. with your friends, then your opinion of N64 would be completely different. Sad though, you never experienced the greatest games ever... PS1 was good, but that game doesn't have any "best" title
@TheRealHackmaster I've owned a N64 since 2001 buddy so yes i have used one and yes I think its uncomfortable and uncomfortable half of those best Titles you have mentioned play much better on the Wiis Virtual console with a Gamecube controller the N64s controller is something you can get used to but after being blessed with better controller designs I would rather not, and you obviously know nothing about the PS1, Metal Gear solid is considerd one of the best games ever made and was now on N64
@thelongtimemagic Yes, your right, I don't know about the PS1 games, but I got my N64 while I already had PS2! And N64 have way more games that is considered as the best games ever. But I think I know more about PS1 then you know about N64, as I've played many PS1 games with my friend, but even he thinks that N64 is better. (And I just found out, if you search "Ocarina of Time" [one single N64 game] you'll get more results than searching PS1, that is 2418 games)
@TheRealHackmaster I'm cool with that the PS1 was my main console during it's generation so I do feel a liitle stronger towards it than I do the N64 unfortunatly a lot of the PS1s greatest games are ignored today and a lot of them never came out in certain countries meaning the systems not quite as appreciated as it could have been Policenauts is an example of an excelent PS1 game that remains ignored because it never got translated into English
Games like Metal Gear Solid, Symphony of the Night, and FFVII were considered some of the best in their categories. There might be more search results for Zelda than PS1, but PS1 sold 70 million more units worldwide than the N64. Clearly, there were a lot of people who wanted one.
I don't even know what you mean when you say "classic in its own sense" and I don't think you do either. Periods at the end of your sentences might help. Clearly, you must try harder to stay awake in school.
@dunnono00 XD well excuse me u don't know basic 1st grade literature but classic in its own sense means the n64 is an awesome system by itself and it came out with really good games back then i played ps1 before i just don't like the genre game but it did have good memory and I should try to stay awake in skool i have honors smart one :P
@dunnono00 lol, the reasons why PS1 sold better than N64 was because it was WAY cheaper and that it copied Analog Sticks and the Rumble Pack. Think, how many units would you think PS1 would sell without the Analog Sticks and the Rumble pack? I mean, did you see the poor, sad PS1 controller in 1995? You gotta thank Nintendo for that.
You know, Wii was way cheaper than PS3 and Xbox 360, which made that console sell better than the others.
I don't know if you quite realize just how large 70 million is. 70M is more than the total combined sales of Gamecube, Xbox, and Dreamcast. That doesn't happen because of a controller with analog and force feedback, unless it somehow guaranteed female orgasm. By that logic, the N64 should have sold 20 million the moment they revealed their controller and another 20 million when Rumble was introduced. Price is more reasonable but Nintendo matched the price cuts until '98.
@dunnono00 You know, I badly wanted a GC, but you know what? They didn't have it in the store, nor any games. I had the same problem with N64 games. The reason why some consoles falls badly in to sales is because of the store owner follows the "trend" and tries to sell what most people want to atm, even if the difference was barely comparable. Its quite sad actually, as the trend now is focused on pure action games with few colors bad soundtrack + bad effort.
Where do you live? Nintendo had to actually stop production of Gamecubes at one point because there were still so many of them on the shelves and no one was buying them (until they cut the price to $99). Even now, I don't think I'd have any problem walking into a Gamestop and picking up a used GC or even N64 games, although I live in a big US city.
I wished you played games like Ocarina of Time and Majora's mask. That would totally change your opinion. Those games had an awesome gameplay and the best storylines in games ever (in my opinion). And I already had PS2 when I started playing on the N64 (someone gave me an N64 when it was "outdated"). And no loading time was just pure awesomeness. It was just like, Power Switch ON, push A, push A again, ready to play! (other N64 games were also great, like the multiplayer games)
i would like to point out that after 32 bits the number of bits doesnt really matter that mutch what matters is proccesor speed and stuff like what im trying to say is if you had a 32 bit system with good enough processors and stuff you could get close to ps3 and xbox 360 graphics
The N64 had better graphics because it was released 2 years after the PS1, the PS1 was 32 bit and the N64 was 64bit hence the reason why it was called the N64. The Playstation 1 however I.M.O. had much a much better and wider variety of games. When Nintendo fans say the N64 was better all they can say is Goldeneye, Mario, F-Zero, and Zelda when with PS1 I can say crash bandicoot, spyro, croc, tomb raider, final fantasy, jet moto, GTA, and more.
PS1->N64(even though I love both WWF No Mercy FTW)
Mario games are still being made, and Mario 64 is one of the most loved 3D platformers of all time. Goldeneye is still referenced constantly when talking about FPS's, and set the stage for console FPS's as we know it. And Zelda is still as hot as ever.
Compared to Crash, Spyro, and Tomb Raider. All have become rehashed to the point where almost every game that comes out sucks.
@Draknfyre It doesn't matter how big the legacy is because Mario is only popular for the same reason why Call Of Duty is popular because they made one good game that will be forever known as one of the greatest so people will buy any Mario game just because it has the title mario in it, same with Pokemon.
Also, Goldeneye falls into the same line as Crash, Spyro, etc. because as you can see the remake didn't do even a quarter as good as the original did.....
@Draknfyre.... Nobody even talks about shooters on Nintendo anymore because they're a joke on the Wii. Even if PS isn't as succesful as it is now it still doesn't change the fact that PS was A LOT more succesful than the N64, same with the PS2 and gamecube. Look at the sales difference and you'll know what I mean. The only reason why Nintendo gets the sales that they due now is because they've learned how to draw in a crowd with their gimmicks and act like they created them which they didn't.
@Draknfyre Like I said people will keep buying Mario just because it's called MARIO, nothing more nothing else.
Game websites only count how many units the console has GAINED not how much they've lost and if you've seen the news MANY people gave back their wiis because they got tired of them. The weekly most sold console for many months now has been the Xbox 360 while the only info that involves nintendo is the new Zelda that's coming out, sad.
@Draknfyre Do some research, the original developers for crash and spryo gave them up for new and different games and those games are successful too. Isomniac Games gave up Spyro for Infamous which gets decent sales and Naughty dog stopped Crash for Uncharted which won the most game of the year awards in 2009. Mario games are fun, but they're way too pretty repetitive. Tell me what Nintendo has to offer other than Mario,Zelda, or Pokemon? If Nintendo ever loses 1 of the 2 they're finished.
@Draknfyre Nintendo has been lacking good 3rd party support since the N64 which is why Sony killed it for 2 straight years. It's simple without Mario,Zelda, Pokemon or gimmicks there's nothing that Nintendo really has to offer. I can name plenty of successful games that Sony has made, gave up and are still getting sales. The top 2 are Gran Turismo and Tekken(which is the number 1 fighting game franchise to date)
Yes, the third parties went with Sony when they saw how much cheaper the medium was, and the capacity it afforded. However, Nintendo with their "limited games" still kicked retail ass over both Sony and Microsoft.
And it's funny you mention GT. The game series where they sold a full-priced demo, and made players wait 8 years before the sequel actually came out.
You keep calling Nintendo a "gimmick", well it's a "gimmick" Sony and MS see fit to bank heavily on.
@Draknfyre You keep stating that Nintendo kicked Sony and MS's ass but the only time that I see that is with the DS which is the most sold platform to date. Other than that MS and Sony pretty much pwn nintendo on the daily bases. Again the only reason why the Wii sold more than the PS3 and Xbox 360 was because of the "new" wii remotes that was very popular until 2010 and now the Wii has been the worst selling console for countless months now. Yeah that's something to be proud about.
1. You are comparing a system's ten year sales numbers with a system's 5 year sales number. Your research failed. The PS2 of course has more sales, IT'S BEEN OUT FOR ALMOST SIX YEARS LONGER.
2.The Wii eventually reached a saturation point. There are only so many people buying video game systems. Once five years are up, of course sales are going to slow down.
3. You keep using "gimmick", but fail to see the irony that that "gimmick" is what
@Draknfyre 1: Why do you think the PS2 lasted 6 years longer than the gamecube, because it was better and was more demanded. Stop using the years difference as an excuse because I'll just bring up the Xbox which was discontinued around the same time gamecube was YET it still sold better. Again you FAIL
2: That only happens with Nintendo because nintnedo doesn't know how to keep their "loyal" fans like MS and sony, notice how the most weekly sold console now is Xbox 360 and it's going strong.
The PS2 "lasted longer" because Sony wouldn't stop making them. A console's average lifespan is 5-6 years. Sony wanted to try to change that because it meant less pressure for them to develop a new system in that timespan. You will notice that 88 million Wii's in 5 years is over half of the PS2's number in 10 years. The math should be easy for you to do.
Nintendo's IP's remain popular with all ages. Not just nostalgic adults, and young kids. They get consistently good reviews.
@Draknfyre Yeah and if Nintendo continued to keep the wii going you should realize that the Wii wouldn't sell more than the PS2 because you're ignoring this simple fact. The wii isn't as hot as it was in 2007 and has been the worst monthly selling console for a while now. In a couple of years Xbox 360 will most likely dominate the wii or get around as much as the wii sold. And if you don't think there's PS3 and Xbox 360 games that get perfect reviews than you're sadly mistaken.
Your comments are getting circular. Sales slow with age no matter the product. The Wii is at the end of it's lifespan. Average console lifespan is 5-6 years, only exception is Sony. Nintendo is releasing their next system next year, and you don't have to worry about the Wii being slower. A new system will take over, and compete with MS and Sony's new offerings. You like to quote sales statistics, but don't apply console age to them. A turtle will eventually get to the end, but slowly.
@Draknfyre Yeah this isn't really going anywhere no matter what each of us say our minds won't change, that's just the type of people that we are so I won't comment any further because we all know that this will just escalate into a flame war which is what I'm trying to avoid and I'm pretty sure you're trying to do the same.
Something that Crash, Spyro, and the other handful of PSX-era masots don't.
The Eyetoy, PS Move, and Kinect are all motion-based controls. No one said they were direct copies of the Wii remote. And yes, the Eyetoy was out before the Wii. However it's main objective wasn't motion control. Hell, one of the first marketed uses was as a webcam. Sony publically criticized Nintendo over motion controls, the president stating it was "kids stuff". Then they brought out the Move.
@Draknfyre "Something that Crash, Spyro, and the other handful of PSX-era masots don't."
I guess you never heard of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Tekken, Gran Turismo, or Ratchet and Clank
If you actually looked at the move you would realize that it's not as family friendly as the wii except for a couple of party games such as bowling and not something like cooking mama. Other than that the main use of the PS Move is for first person shooters.
Let me put it this way. "I don't like Nintendo. I prefer Sony/Microsoft", that would be fine.
"I hate Nintendo, Nintendo sucks, their games sucks, and only idiots buy Nintendo". this is a fanboy response.
I have said multiple times yes, Sony did better with previous systems for multiple factors, including better 3rd party support, But on a Wii-to-PS3 basis, Nintendo beat them at sales. Nintendo remained sold out, while Sony had assloads of systems in stock. This is fact.
Sony's Eyetoy wasn't a 10th of what they tried with Move until Nintendo's massive success with the Wii prompted them to. They openly criticized motion control before that. This is also fact.
With every hardware addition that changes games, other companies try to catch up. Nintendo is almost always the one to put these changes in. Those "gimmicks" are what advances games as years go by. No one thinks anything special of force feedback, but Nintendo did it for consoles.
Nintendo also popularized analog controls for consoles ten years after they dropped from consoles. They also popularized 4 controller ports. And Mario is on the most-recognized list with Ronald McDonald, and Santa Claus.
So, you can not like Nintendo all you like, but show them respect for what they have done. Without Nintendo, that PS3 you have wouldn't even exist. Again, I recommend you look up the "Video game crash of '83." Nintendo rebuilt the video game industry from ruin.
Thats true, Nintendo singlehandedly brought home consoles back to life in America. They gambled big and won! PS won that console warbecause it was cheaper and had better 3rd party support, however Supermario 64 and Ocarina of Time (NOT MAJORAS MASK) were groundbreaking videogames that if you played today you would still be impressed. OCarina of Time by the way IMO was the greatest game of all time.
Final Fantasy, Kingdom hearts, tekken, gran turismo are all 3rd party developers. lol. That means all those games could easily come out for another system at anytime.. which some of them have already done. Zelda, Mario, Pokemon etc. Are all NINTENDO.
@willsmackyoudown Final Fantasy, Tekken, and Kingdom Hearts were all PS exclusives for a while when they first started(and Tekken still gives more to the PS fans than any other console) and Gran Turismo is still a 1st party exclusive for Playstation and that will probably never change because they always get a good amount of sales. Also, Mario has been on other consoles besides Nintendo F.Y.I., ever heard of the Atari 2600 or the Commodore 64?
3: Gimmick="an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, especially one designed to attract attention or increase appeal"
Tell me this doesn't define EVERYTHING that nintendo has done over the last half decade in order to gain fans? Hell they're doing it again with the Wii U with that knock off of an Ipad.
Sony and MS are copying, trying to capture the same sales. Nintendo has thoroughly kicked both of their asses in sales. That "gimmick" made both Sony and MS cream their pants, and scramble to copy it.
4. Your research is flawed. If by "gave up" you mean "had their asses bought, and the IP's reassigned', then yes. Crash and Spyro were good games. Good games which have been run into the ground and now they suck. Nintendo's IP's are still fun, that's the difference.
@Draknfyre MS didn't copy Nintendo and neither did sony, infact sony had the idea of motion controls BEFORE nintendo did remember the eyetoy? MS INNOVATED motion controls and if you actually played it you'll realize that it's nothing like the wii and it's actually a lot different. Sony is use to being on top so what's wrong with them wanting to be on top for 3 years in a row? LOL you think Wii Vs. PS3 and 360="creamed" look up the PS2 vs gamecube because it's MUCH more funnier.
The "adults who can't overcome nostalgia and buy anything Nintendo pulls out of their butt" comment makes you sound less like a commenter, and more like a raving PS3 fanboy.
With very few exceptions (and all of them being second or third-party games with character licensing) no Mario, Zelda, Metroid or any other Nintendo main IP character game has had bad reviews. That's because they're good games, Not just banking on nostalgia. Meanwhile half of Crash's can be called utter garbage.
@Draknfyre Yeah I'm a PS3 fanboy because I don't think as highly of nintendo as you do and I prefer different game companies other than nintendo. I guess EVERY gamer that doesn't like Nintendo are fanboys...bullshit
Notice how the only games that you can talk about are Crash bandicoot and spryo but you forget the fact that sony has had many other successful exclusives such as kingdom hearts, tekken, final fantasy ect. EVERY game company has flooped games, even the "great" nintendo
Maybe you should know if it weren't for Nintendo you wouldn't have video gaming as we do today. Look up "Video game crash of '83" and how Nintendo saved the entire industry and rebuilt it.
You keep talking about first-party IP's, so I am using Crash and Spryo. Two mascot-level characters who were at one time console-exclusives.
You also keep comparing system numbers which cannot be compared. You cannot compare a system sold for 5 years with a
System that's still being sold. That's like comparing the amound of Ford Explorers sold to a Studebaker. One a model that's still in production today, to one that stopped production years ago.
Sony did do better during the PSX era for the reasons I listed, and that momentum let them drift into better sales with the PS2, and with the confidence of 3rd parties. But the Wii still outsold the PS3.
"Nintendo and it's games suck" is the attitude of a fanboy, not simply a Sony fan.
The GameCube suffered from a lack of third-party developers, and this stemmed from the fact that 3rd parties pulled out during the N64 era because CD's were much cheaper to use, the capacity was greater, and they didn't have to pay Nintendo licensing fees. That's not what this is about. Yes, the PS2 was the dominate console then. But that was then, and this is now.
It took almost two years to find a Wii in large numbers in stores. Meanwhile PS3's could be found in droves after launch
@Draknfyre The PS3's sales aren't even that bad, at least all 3 of their consoles are in the top 10 most sold consoles of all time while Nintendo only has the NES(which was their first sold console) and the Wii(which the PS1 and PS2 sold more than). The Wii only sold about 50 million units more than the PS3 while the PS2 sold over 120 million units more than the gamecube and the PS1 sold over 70 million units more than the N64 wins.
@Draknfyre Sorry about writing so much I just have a lot to say and not enough to type in :D
4:Nintendo's 1st Parties are only as fun as the fanboys make them in which if you looked up the age limit of the fans that still play nintendo's 1P games are in their mid 20s which are mostly fans that don't know how to overcome nostalgia and will play anything that nintendo pulls out of their ass.
@Draknfyre ..continued I don't see why Sony and MS need to bank on Nintendo because without their gimmicks they're useless. Just look at the sales different between the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube and PS1/N64. If the Wii ever runs out of gimmicks to innovate they will probably sell less than the gamecube did(since games aren't as popular as they were back then).
64 was not innovative, get that out of your heads right now. The Atari 5200 and Vectrex both beat it to the analog sticks, 5200 also had 4 controller ports. Even the Wii was predated by the Xavix a motion controlled game system. They're not innovative they're just bigger and have a far larger fanboy base.
so ps1 is the first to have "disk" games, but the n64 was one of the first to have FOUR controller ports. The graphics may not be the best, the sound may not be the best, due to its cartridges, but n64 was a heck of alot more fun
The Sega CD was the first CD-based gaming system in the US. The 3DO was the first 32-bit CD-based gaming system in the US.
The Nintendo 64 was not the first to have four ports. Hell, even the NES had four controller ports if you used the multitap. But consoles with four controller ports built-in existed before it.
I have both, and love both. If you want to get into shite console's, then play the Atari Jaguar! Sweet jesus it sucked big floppy donkey dick.........
yes i am a mario fan but im still attached to the resident evill and MGS series +im more into RPG`s alot more than platforming which the N64 had all the hype about in general yes, i do like both systems itts just a matter of long periods of not playing for a month or 2 than end up swithing back and forth from 64 2 32 or 32 2 64
Here's something else for you Nintendo fanboys to think about... Nintendo actually had a deal cut with Sony to release the first Playstation together. You know that little removable cover on the bottom of the Super NES? That's where it was to be connected. Nintendo pulled out about halfway in and that was their huge mistake. PSX was released a few years before the N64, and lasted until after the N64 was dead...
Now you know that Gran Turismo 1 and 2 was worth mentioning lol. For sake GT1 wasTHE BEST SELLING VIDEO GAME for the console with GT2 being 3rd just being edged out by FF7 =).

playstation one is based off of 128-bit hardware, while
N64 is based off of 64 bit... comparing those two, n64 actually places higher, since your comparing two different bit hardware components, you cant really compare which one is better...

PS2 sold purely on its name.
willsmackyoudown 3 months ago
@willsmackyoudown I don't know what this argument is about, but Mario and Zelda came out on the Philips Cd-i in the early 90's when nintendo had already made consoles. And playstation 2 was really successful due to dvd technology, but yes the dreamcast was awesome and I am more of a nintendo fan myself, but you got to get your facts straight. The Cd-i was a horrible horrible system, but it was a system none the less.
TheFatty2497 3 months ago
@TheFatty2497
PS had games that belong to other companies.
willsmackyoudown 3 months ago
@willsmackyoudown wtf r u talking about? the ps2 was amazing, it had the most amazing games, im not a fanboy but ur a retard if u think the ps2 only sold on its name.
aweseb 2 months ago
@aweseb
I was alive when all this stuff happened smartass.
willsmackyoudown 2 months ago
@willsmackyoudown why ddnt u explain the games that failed on the n64 buddy, oh its because ur a biased asshole who probably never bought a ps2 or ps3, id have to admit the n64 did sell well and it had good games but nintendo is now shit wich is why theyre lowering the prices on everything
aweseb 2 months ago
@aweseb
THe only one that did well was Goldeneye.
willsmackyoudown 2 months ago
@willsmackyoudown no it was RARE. RARE made goldeneye, and DK64, DKKracing, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark, and the two Banjo-Kazooie games.
tcrpgfan 2 months ago
@tcrpgfan
Still Rare at that time was a 2nd party developer. Which means at that point in time Rare only made videogames for Nintendo lol. Also Perfect Dark, Conkers bad fur day and DK64 were dissapointing. DKracing, Banjo and Goldeneye were the big ones.
willsmackyoudown 2 months ago

@aweseb I only three quarters agree, clearly his guy never played DMC1, DMC3, MGS3, or any of the other really well known titles for PS2 if he says only shadows of the colossus was original. Hell, some PS2 games were so original, they started their own sub genres. Where he is mixed up on, is that the PS3 only sold on hype. The PS2 did so too, but it had deus ex as a launch title, with ffx, DMC, and MGS2 coming for the syster the following year.

@MessageInBlood1 The Sega Saturn is actualy a pretty sweet system I do like some of the great 2D games on it but the N64 as a pice of hardware is one of Nintendos worst systems the only thing worse is the Virtual Boy
thelongtimemagic 3 months ago
@thelongtimemagic N64 was one of Nintendo's worst systems? Wow, you truly missed out some of the greatest games ever. Don't you think its weird that when you search "N64", then "PS1" on YouTube, "N64" gets double as much results than PS1, even though PS1 sold 70 millions more than N64 and that PS1 has over 2000 more games than N64? And there has been several of remakes of N64 games on newer systems, but NONE on the PS1
TheRealHackmaster 3 months ago
@TheRealHackmaster Sorry bro but the N64s a steaming turd no matter how strong its first party titles are, I'm not talking about the games or popularity i'm talking about the system itself and the systems a turd, The design is highly rushed causing an separate expansion pack, The revoloutionary controller itself is horrid I am yet to find a non ruined N64 controller even if i found one thats not fucked its 3 prong design is still awkward and uncomfortable
thelongtimemagic 3 months ago
@thelongtimemagic If you think the controller is uncomfortable, then you haven't played N64 games long enough, or you've probably never touched one at all! If you played Ocarina of Time all the way to the End, or if you mastered Star Fox 64 or if you've played the AWESOME Multiplayer 4P Super Smash Bros. with your friends, then your opinion of N64 would be completely different. Sad though, you never experienced the greatest games ever... PS1 was good, but that game doesn't have any "best" title
TheRealHackmaster 3 months ago
@TheRealHackmaster I've owned a N64 since 2001 buddy so yes i have used one and yes I think its uncomfortable and uncomfortable half of those best Titles you have mentioned play much better on the Wiis Virtual console with a Gamecube controller the N64s controller is something you can get used to but after being blessed with better controller designs I would rather not, and you obviously know nothing about the PS1, Metal Gear solid is considerd one of the best games ever made and was now on N64
thelongtimemagic 3 months ago
@thelongtimemagic God damn it Unconfortable and Unconfortable my brains not working obviously
thelongtimemagic 3 months ago
@thelongtimemagic Yes, your right, I don't know about the PS1 games, but I got my N64 while I already had PS2! And N64 have way more games that is considered as the best games ever. But I think I know more about PS1 then you know about N64, as I've played many PS1 games with my friend, but even he thinks that N64 is better. (And I just found out, if you search "Ocarina of Time" [one single N64 game] you'll get more results than searching PS1, that is 2418 games)
TheRealHackmaster 3 months ago
@TheRealHackmaster I'm cool with that the PS1 was my main console during it's generation so I do feel a liitle stronger towards it than I do the N64 unfortunatly a lot of the PS1s greatest games are ignored today and a lot of them never came out in certain countries meaning the systems not quite as appreciated as it could have been Policenauts is an example of an excelent PS1 game that remains ignored because it never got translated into English
thelongtimemagic 3 months ago
@TheRealHackmaster
Games like Metal Gear Solid, Symphony of the Night, and FFVII were considered some of the best in their categories. There might be more search results for Zelda than PS1, but PS1 sold 70 million more units worldwide than the N64. Clearly, there were a lot of people who wanted one.
dunnono00 3 months ago
@dunnono00 clearly that doesn't matter n64 was more classic in its own sense ps1 fanboys just didn't think the "graphics"were good enough
TheKingdomheart56 3 months ago
@TheKingdomheart56
I don't even know what you mean when you say "classic in its own sense" and I don't think you do either. Periods at the end of your sentences might help. Clearly, you must try harder to stay awake in school.
dunnono00 3 months ago
@dunnono00 XD well excuse me u don't know basic 1st grade literature but classic in its own sense means the n64 is an awesome system by itself and it came out with really good games back then i played ps1 before i just don't like the genre game but it did have good memory and I should try to stay awake in skool i have honors smart one :P
TheKingdomheart56 3 months ago
@dunnono00 lol, the reasons why PS1 sold better than N64 was because it was WAY cheaper and that it copied Analog Sticks and the Rumble Pack. Think, how many units would you think PS1 would sell without the Analog Sticks and the Rumble pack? I mean, did you see the poor, sad PS1 controller in 1995? You gotta thank Nintendo for that.
You know, Wii was way cheaper than PS3 and Xbox 360, which made that console sell better than the others.
TheRealHackmaster 3 months ago
@TheRealHackmaster
Price is more reasonable but Nintendo matched the price cuts until '98.
dunnono00 3 months ago
@dunnono00 You know, I badly wanted a GC, but you know what? They didn't have it in the store, nor any games. I had the same problem with N64 games. The reason why some consoles falls badly in to sales is because of the store owner follows the "trend" and tries to sell what most people want to atm, even if the difference was barely comparable. Its quite sad actually, as the trend now is focused on pure action games with few colors bad soundtrack + bad effort.
nvm, persuading you seem to be hard
TheRealHackmaster 3 months ago
@TheRealHackmaster

What is a N64 ?
MrZomboss 4 months ago
The N64 had better graphics because it was released 2 years after the PS1, the PS1 was 32 bit and the N64 was 64bit hence the reason why it was called the N64. The Playstation 1 however I.M.O. had much a much better and wider variety of games. When Nintendo fans say the N64 was better all they can say is Goldeneye, Mario, F-Zero, and Zelda when with PS1 I can say crash bandicoot, spyro, croc, tomb raider, final fantasy, jet moto, GTA, and more.
PS1->N64(even though I love both WWF No Mercy FTW)
jmeny14 4 months ago
@jmeny14
What games had a bigger legacy?
Mario games are still being made, and Mario 64 is one of the most loved 3D platformers of all time. Goldeneye is still referenced constantly when talking about FPS's, and set the stage for console FPS's as we know it. And Zelda is still as hot as ever.
Compared to Crash, Spyro, and Tomb Raider. All have become rehashed to the point where almost every game that comes out sucks.
Devs went with Sony for the cheaper medium costs.
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@Draknfyre It doesn't matter how big the legacy is because Mario is only popular for the same reason why Call Of Duty is popular because they made one good game that will be forever known as one of the greatest so people will buy any Mario game just because it has the title mario in it, same with Pokemon.
Also, Goldeneye falls into the same line as Crash, Spyro, etc. because as you can see the remake didn't do even a quarter as good as the original did.....
jmeny14 4 months ago
@Draknfyre.... Nobody even talks about shooters on Nintendo anymore because they're a joke on the Wii. Even if PS isn't as succesful as it is now it still doesn't change the fact that PS was A LOT more succesful than the N64, same with the PS2 and gamecube. Look at the sales difference and you'll know what I mean. The only reason why Nintendo gets the sales that they due now is because they've learned how to draw in a crowd with their gimmicks and act like they created them which they didn't.
jmeny14 4 months ago
@jmeny14
I repeat, who's still around, and who's pumping out the fifteenth cart racing clone and spinoffs trying to regain an audience.
"Gimmicks" seemed to work pretty well with the Wii. It's still outselling the other two.
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@Draknfyre Like I said people will keep buying Mario just because it's called MARIO, nothing more nothing else.
Game websites only count how many units the console has GAINED not how much they've lost and if you've seen the news MANY people gave back their wiis because they got tired of them. The weekly most sold console for many months now has been the Xbox 360 while the only info that involves nintendo is the new Zelda that's coming out, sad.
jmeny14 4 months ago
@jmeny14
And every Mario game has been a hit. While Spyro and Crash continue down into a spiral of worse and worse games.
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@Draknfyre Do some research, the original developers for crash and spryo gave them up for new and different games and those games are successful too. Isomniac Games gave up Spyro for Infamous which gets decent sales and Naughty dog stopped Crash for Uncharted which won the most game of the year awards in 2009. Mario games are fun, but they're way too pretty repetitive. Tell me what Nintendo has to offer other than Mario,Zelda, or Pokemon? If Nintendo ever loses 1 of the 2 they're finished.
jmeny14 4 months ago
@Draknfyre Nintendo has been lacking good 3rd party support since the N64 which is why Sony killed it for 2 straight years. It's simple without Mario,Zelda, Pokemon or gimmicks there's nothing that Nintendo really has to offer. I can name plenty of successful games that Sony has made, gave up and are still getting sales. The top 2 are Gran Turismo and Tekken(which is the number 1 fighting game franchise to date)
jmeny14 4 months ago
@jmeny14
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@Draknfyre You keep stating that Nintendo kicked Sony and MS's ass but the only time that I see that is with the DS which is the most sold platform to date. Other than that MS and Sony pretty much pwn nintendo on the daily bases. Again the only reason why the Wii sold more than the PS3 and Xbox 360 was because of the "new" wii remotes that was very popular until 2010 and now the Wii has been the worst selling console for countless months now. Yeah that's something to be proud about.
jmeny14 4 months ago
@jmeny14
Going to address your comments in a row.
3. You keep using "gimmick", but fail to see the irony that that "gimmick" is what
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@Draknfyre 1: Why do you think the PS2 lasted 6 years longer than the gamecube, because it was better and was more demanded. Stop using the years difference as an excuse because I'll just bring up the Xbox which was discontinued around the same time gamecube was YET it still sold better. Again you FAIL
2: That only happens with Nintendo because nintnedo doesn't know how to keep their "loyal" fans like MS and sony, notice how the most weekly sold console now is Xbox 360 and it's going strong.
jmeny14 4 months ago
@jmeny14
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@Draknfyre Yeah and if Nintendo continued to keep the wii going you should realize that the Wii wouldn't sell more than the PS2 because you're ignoring this simple fact. The wii isn't as hot as it was in 2007 and has been the worst monthly selling console for a while now. In a couple of years Xbox 360 will most likely dominate the wii or get around as much as the wii sold. And if you don't think there's PS3 and Xbox 360 games that get perfect reviews than you're sadly mistaken.
jmeny14 4 months ago
@jmeny14
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@Draknfyre Yeah this isn't really going anywhere no matter what each of us say our minds won't change, that's just the type of people that we are so I won't comment any further because we all know that this will just escalate into a flame war which is what I'm trying to avoid and I'm pretty sure you're trying to do the same.

(Continued)
Something that Crash, Spyro, and the other handful of PSX-era masots don't.
The Eyetoy, PS Move, and Kinect are all motion-based controls. No one said they were direct copies of the Wii remote. And yes, the Eyetoy was out before the Wii. However it's main objective wasn't motion control. Hell, one of the first marketed uses was as a webcam. Sony publically criticized Nintendo over motion controls, the president stating it was "kids stuff". Then they brought out the Move.
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@Draknfyre "Something that Crash, Spyro, and the other handful of PSX-era masots don't."
I guess you never heard of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Tekken, Gran Turismo, or Ratchet and Clank
If you actually looked at the move you would realize that it's not as family friendly as the wii except for a couple of party games such as bowling and not something like cooking mama. Other than that the main use of the PS Move is for first person shooters.
jmeny14 4 months ago
@jmeny14
(cont)
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@jmeny14
(cont)
Draknfyre 4 months ago 2
@jmeny14
Draknfyre 4 months ago 2
@Draknfyre
OCarina of Time by the way IMO was the greatest game of all time.

willsmackyoudown 3 months ago
@willsmackyoudown Final Fantasy, Tekken, and Kingdom Hearts were all PS exclusives for a while when they first started(and Tekken still gives more to the PS fans than any other console) and Gran Turismo is still a 1st party exclusive for Playstation and that will probably never change because they always get a good amount of sales. Also, Mario has been on other consoles besides Nintendo F.Y.I., ever heard of the Atari 2600 or the Commodore 64?

Sony and MS are copying, trying to capture the same sales. Nintendo has thoroughly kicked both of their asses in sales. That "gimmick" made both Sony and MS cream their pants, and scramble to copy it.
4. Your research is flawed. If by "gave up" you mean "had their asses bought, and the IP's reassigned', then yes. Crash and Spyro were good games. Good games which have been run into the ground and now they suck. Nintendo's IP's are still fun, that's the difference.
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@Draknfyre MS didn't copy Nintendo and neither did sony, infact sony had the idea of motion controls BEFORE nintendo did remember the eyetoy? MS INNOVATED motion controls and if you actually played it you'll realize that it's nothing like the wii and it's actually a lot different. Sony is use to being on top so what's wrong with them wanting to be on top for 3 years in a row? LOL you think Wii Vs. PS3 and 360="creamed" look up the PS2 vs gamecube because it's MUCH more funnier.
jmeny14 4 months ago
@jmeny14
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@Draknfyre Yeah I'm a PS3 fanboy because I don't think as highly of nintendo as you do and I prefer different game companies other than nintendo. I guess EVERY gamer that doesn't like Nintendo are fanboys...bullshit
Notice how the only games that you can talk about are Crash bandicoot and spryo but you forget the fact that sony has had many other successful exclusives such as kingdom hearts, tekken, final fantasy ect. EVERY game company has flooped games, even the "great" nintendo
jmeny14 4 months ago
@jmeny14
You cannot compare a system sold for 5 years with a
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@jmeny14
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@jmeny14
Draknfyre 4 months ago
@Draknfyre The PS3's sales aren't even that bad, at least all 3 of their consoles are in the top 10 most sold consoles of all time while Nintendo only has the NES(which was their first sold console) and the Wii(which the PS1 and PS2 sold more than). The Wii only sold about 50 million units more than the PS3 while the PS2 sold over 120 million units more than the gamecube and the PS1 sold over 70 million units more than the N64 wins.
jmeny14 4 months ago
@Draknfyre Sorry about writing so much I just have a lot to say and not enough to type in :D
4:Nintendo's 1st Parties are only as fun as the fanboys make them in which if you looked up the age limit of the fans that still play nintendo's 1P games are in their mid 20s which are mostly fans that don't know how to overcome nostalgia and will play anything that nintendo pulls out of their ass.
jmeny14 4 months ago
@Draknfyre ..continued I don't see why Sony and MS need to bank on Nintendo because without their gimmicks they're useless. Just look at the sales different between the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube and PS1/N64. If the Wii ever runs out of gimmicks to innovate they will probably sell less than the gamecube did(since games aren't as popular as they were back then).
jmeny14 4 months ago
64 was not innovative, get that out of your heads right now. The Atari 5200 and Vectrex both beat it to the analog sticks, 5200 also had 4 controller ports. Even the Wii was predated by the Xavix a motion controlled game system. They're not innovative they're just bigger and have a far larger fanboy base.
