My biggest dream is to go to an OSU football game. I've been a Buckeye fan ever since the day I was born. That was 52 years ago. Love Ohio State football!
I was in the "other TBDBTL" when I went to Purdue and I'll never forget traveling to "the Shoe" and being in awe of the traditions at Ohio State and the respect that the band receives. Hats off to you guys.
Hey tylers12345689, I'm from Michigan, graduated from the U of M, played football there under Bo. I was also in the marching band there, under the direction of George Cavender. I always thought OSU's ritual of "Script Ohio" was MOST impressive. It was also great to kick Ohio States ass 3 out of the 4 years I was there...twice IN Columbus.
So, no, you didn't have to throw the F-bomb out there, but I hope YOU feel better.

@mousie1382 this is not follow the leader. Each band member is actually given charts with exact steps around each part. Every member is tested on these steps, and could theoretically be the leader of the script. Also, the band always stops together, which shows it not follow the leader.
@preds317 Are you sure it was the UMich band? I had heard it was Leonard Falcone and the MSU band. I'll have to research this. I'm reading the book about Falcone right now and haven't gotten up to that point in the book yet.

The prestige of being in this band must be unbelievable! The Seminoles never posted a marching band until the late 40's or early 50's. It became a co-ed school in 1947.
Many similarities in the way the two march, especially with the left hand motion! What a treat to watch!
The tradition continues - OSU is a very impressive pre-game show to view! I'm a Florida State Seminole and watching good bands perform is a special treat for me. I have gone through many of the schools pregame shows on You Tube and none can compare to the Script Ohio. Wish I could be there for just ONE of the home games. I'd say that next to the FSU Marching Chiefs, OSU would be my favorite band! Don't let the past year get you down - you'll surely be back!

To everyone that is an alumni, Watching the Band, and script Ohio is Heaven on Earth. It was the best times of our lives.
And, the band is the True Pride of the School!! They work hard, study hard, uphold Ohio State Values for the entire school.

Also, this is without a doubt my favorite part of the watching The Best Damn Band in the Land and the best college football tradition I have ever known.
Okay. I've watched several performances of the Script Ohio, and in this one, the loop of the O and the long line of the h just imploded. Not very good at all. I can respect a good tradition, but that's just no good. I hope this was just one really off performance.
It was the Univeristy of Michigan band that came down to Columbus in 1932 and instructed the Ohio State band it's long time tradition for them until the Buckeyes finally grasped the script and has kept it since.

i swear, my favorite part of script other than the dotting of the i is when they sing battle cry...it's so eerie how the whole stadium goes silent, but it's so amazing at the same time.

For your information, Ohio State's band is always the number one college band in the country year after year. I do not march in their band so I'm not bias. I twirl in another university band. So, educate yourself before commenting, sweetie.

As much as I luv everything OH-IO. This is not the est Damn Band. Its got 2 be a black college. Nobody even watches the game bc the bands r so tight. Outside Script O they just average. Wisconsin is the best band in the BIG 10. Anyway Go Bucks!!! DrewZy!!!
There should be more flugelhorns in marching bands. In fact...drum corps' should use flugelhorns if they ever have jazz shows. We have a solo Flugelhorn in my marching band. Anyone else think there should be more high stepping low brass?
I grew up a little rocker (in Cleveland, Oh, whatelse?). After seeing this performed for the first time (aprox age 8 or 9) I became determined to be a part of something as spectacular and unique. It was my inspiration to join marching band in Jr. high. I hated highschool - all but for those incredible 3 hours on autumnal Friday evenings! Thank-You TBDBITL.

I'm a junior in highschool and I march the tuba (3/4 shoulder "contra" tuba, not sousaphone, sadly) and even though I'm ready to get out and go to college, the only reason I'm enjoying highschool is because I'm in marching band. OSUMB is my inspiration, since I'm considering attending OSU at this point. GO BUCKS AND TBDBITL!
@friarcajun I lived in Charlotte during those years OSU & NCState played. Although the ACC deserves props in B-ball, it was a beautiful thing to put all those Acc football fans in their place & effectively shutting them the hell up!!!!! GO Big 10(2)!!!! GO Bucks!!!!!!

In Columbus the mantra is this: 2 @ 10 for 75 years in a row........... 2 minutes protest (one minute for each school) stand up and chant when 10:00 comes up on the stadium clock both stadiums. OSU-UM every single home game SAVE THE GAME!!!! over and over and post videos of the protests here on youtube fans joining in with chants world wide on youtube Protect the biggest rivalry in sports history. @MowDawg I hear ya, but at least in Texas, they appreciate college football. I moved to Sacramento, Ca 2 yrs ago. I swear, not a single person here appreciates or even aknowledges ncaa f-ball!!! I grew up in Ohio & spent a few years in SEC & ACC country. I never imagined that a region in this fine country of ours could be SO DEVOID of ncaa football. If you didnt know better, you couldnt even tell its football season, here (except for the occassional Oak Raider brain-dead excuse for a fan.
You know what's actually funny is that the Michigan Marching Band showed OSU how to perform script ohio. I'm not even making this up, look it up if you don't believe me. Just very ironic that OSU's hated rivals had to show them how to do this haha
I recall a trombone player getting completely clobbered going through the intersection that goes from the 'O' to the 'H.' He had blood running down his face. But, as any band member that's worth a shit would do, he kept going.
I'm a student at the University of Oregon and I was at the Rose Bowl and I have to say seeing this is person was the coolest thing ever. One of the best traditions in college sports.

For your information, Ohio State's band is always the number one college band in the country year after year. I do not march in their band so I'm not bias. I twirl in another university band. So, educate yourself before commenting, sweetie.

What's with those uniforms? So 1800s. Michigan's uniforms are more modern and band is better.

@tasams the uniforms are fine... they wear them for tradition. something michigan doesn't have or has ever heard of. the only tradition i can think of is losing to ohio state year after year after year.

As much as I luv everything OH-IO. This is not the est Damn Band. Its got 2 be a black college. Nobody even watches the game bc the bands r so tight. Outside Script O they just average. Wisconsin is the best band in the BIG 10. Anyway Go Bucks!!! DrewZy!!!

There should be more flugelhorns in marching bands. In fact...drum corps' should use flugelhorns if they ever have jazz shows. We have a solo Flugelhorn in my marching band. Anyone else think there should be more high stepping low brass?

I grew up a little rocker (in Cleveland, Oh, whatelse?). After seeing this performed for the first time (aprox age 8 or 9) I became determined to be a part of something as spectacular and unique. It was my inspiration to join marching band in Jr. high. I hated highschool - all but for those incredible 3 hours on autumnal Friday evenings! Thank-You TBDBITL.

I'm a junior in highschool and I march the tuba (3/4 shoulder "contra" tuba, not sousaphone, sadly) and even though I'm ready to get out and go to college, the only reason I'm enjoying highschool is because I'm in marching band. OSUMB is my inspiration, since I'm considering attending OSU at this point. GO BUCKS AND TBDBITL!

@friarcajun I lived in Charlotte during those years OSU & NCState played. Although the ACC deserves props in B-ball, it was a beautiful thing to put all those Acc football fans in their place & effectively shutting them the hell up!!!!! GO Big 10(2)!!!! GO Bucks!!!!!!

@MowDawg I hear ya, but at least in Texas, they appreciate college football. I moved to Sacramento, Ca 2 yrs ago. I swear, not a single person here appreciates or even aknowledges ncaa f-ball!!! I grew up in Ohio & spent a few years in SEC & ACC country. I never imagined that a region in this fine country of ours could be SO DEVOID of ncaa football. If you didnt know better, you couldnt even tell its football season, here (except for the occassional Oak Raider brain-dead excuse for a fan.

You know what's actually funny is that the Michigan Marching Band showed OSU how to perform script ohio. I'm not even making this up, look it up if you don't believe me. Just very ironic that OSU's hated rivals had to show them how to do this haha

I recall a trombone player getting completely clobbered going through the intersection that goes from the 'O' to the 'H.' He had blood running down his face. But, as any band member that's worth a shit would do, he kept going.

I'm a student at the University of Oregon and I was at the Rose Bowl and I have to say seeing this is person was the coolest thing ever. One of the best traditions in college sports.
