how does one get in a situation like this? i've never driven on sand. does the truck just sink sitting there? or do these people just punch it and watch the truck sink?
There is always someone who has something f'ed up to say about a guy getting stuck. Every person who has taken a 4x4 off road has gotten stuck at some point in their life. If they say otherwise, they are lying.
lol i do auto recovery on south padre beach. one thing is in revese your not pushing out as much torque to pull and it may blow your differental. 2nd the sand isnt that bad ha. ive pulled a dodge 2500 down in 4x4 that tied up to a ford explore. was pretty easy. the emblem doesnt mean jack shit. i gotta a jeep grand cherokee with a 4 in teraflex and 33x12.5 yokaham a/t and what makes it good for towing is my dana gears. it takes out those f250's with tires so big you cant even turn them
that guy is a dumbass, that is the only reason why that truck was stuck, driving in the sand start in 2wd and keep your speed up and if you get stuck then switch to 4wd and reverse out. don't try to keep going forward and dig yourself in like that guy
good luck getting the subaru this far down the beach on PINS. the subaru will get stuck in the first rut as it tries to make its way through Big Shell
mxzsled lmao love ur comment cuz its a shitty ford ur a dumb ass doesnt matter about the make of the truck a chevy or dodge would of got stuck to there heavy trucks that toyota didnt get stuck cuz there light
No one there hear of a shovel? like duh. I have a 93 Jeep Yj with a 8 inch Leaf lift and 35 inch tires. And I would be hesitant to go in there with out my trusty spade.
Haha..basically you get stuck because you start slowing down and lose your forward momentum. In other words, you start going slower, push harder on the effing accelerator.
or they will get 20 inch rims with 60 series tires lol... sure they are toyo open countries and they are one of the best type for off road but you moron there is no side wall to flatten out...
I see that all to much around here in the hills of northern cal.
oh and your right. They are made to get the real toys out. I mean come on lets play in a truck or a sand rail with a wicked v8 or some quads.
I can't be 100 sure but doesn't even look like he aired down which is a huge mistake. People also need to stop getting huge rims with little sidewalls when going off road. when you air down it there is hardly any change. Stick with the 15's 16's with 35+ tires and air down.
Also imports because they are lighter do have a slight advantage.
I drive on sand every weekend in Delaware. You have to take the air out of your tires to 15 psi and does not matter what you drive to get stuck in sand. FYI the Toyota Tacoma is built in California.
ROFL, don't you mean clearance? First of all, ANY truck could get stuck out there, stock or modded. A Wrangler would be best out there. And since you know so much about trucks then mister HONDA man, let's see ANY Honda make it through there.
The only Toyota that "might" it through this sand stock would be pre-90's pickup single cab with 4WD. All other trucks stock are just too damn heavy for this shit, no matter the brand.
So would my 07 F150, supercrew, 4x4, lifted, 5.4L V8, 12.5" wide mud tires. Any lifted 4x4 vehicle with wider tires can make it through this sand so long as the vehicle is kept under control. But I am talking about STOCK, where you said the driver shouldn't have bought a Ford because of stock CLEARANCE, power, and weight. First of all a lifted truck with bigger tires will be heavier. Second, power has nothing to do with getting stuck. Third, your comment truly is ignorant.
First of all, my Ford RUNS, and it runs faster, stronger, and better than your truck.
Second, I do love Ford, as much as I love GM, Chrystler, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Merc, all car makers. Unlike you, I'm not biased.
Third, if it helps you out any, I used to own a 2002 Tacoma PreRunner Xcab.
And fourth, before cracking the OLd special olympics joke, you need to learn how to SPELL. Let me help you out: myn = mine, wether = whether, loose = lose.
imports have a slight advantage because they are lighter. Personally I rather have a fullsize. I had a nice 4runner on 31's and I came home one night in the snow in my dodge and it was like a summer day. I got in the 4runner to go back out and have some fun and the damn thing was all over the road. It was to light to break the ft of fresh snow. So I had to air down and still was slick.
wait does your fancy toyota have a stock lift or did you cut all that shit off and go leaf springs?
There is nothing special about toyotas and of road. The older ones by far are the best . They are really only helpfull in deep snow and only by a little bit. By the time most people are done they almost weigh as much as my dodge.
its a custom rear suspension (leaf springs) and ome front springs, and if you do it right a Toyota is a lot lighter and has a lot more suspension travel than a fullsize. ya it dosent have as much power, but if you have a stick shift and the right suspension it will go every ware a full size will go and some places it wont.
youll never see a rice burning toyota pulling my GMC out of the mud because GMCs dont get stuck send it back to china toyotas only know how to drive in rice feilds anyways dont foreighn trade they are taking all of hard working americans jobs away
Rotflmfao!!! I like how they hooked a Toyota (that weighs a third of the ford) to the fullsize ford in reverse with a chain!! You take a mini truck hook it to full size truck in reverse with open diffs with a chain? You'll be there all night my friend. Your better off gettin a shovel
Oh, and leave the brand wars at home...tires and traction aids are all that matter...it doesn't make any lick of difference who made the truck, because the same tires under the same weight vehicle will result in the same stuck.
Anyone who actually wheels knows that the emblem on your truck means nothing. It's the work you put into it and driver skill that makes the difference when offroad. Fuck brand loyalty.
so true doesnt matter what brand it is any one can get stuck that doesnt know what they are doing. Dont know where on the beach they where but that sand was super loose and that super duty is too heavy and the tires are to skinny to stay on top of the sand
@MegaCPC 100% TRUE! I own a simple AWD shopping cart (Honda CRV '08) and I got stuck on the beach (in a deep terrain) just once, 1st time i took it and myself offroad. Never did it before, so I stucked twice. The same day I learned a lot of stuff and now I go there 3 times a week and NEVER get stuck. Sometimes even race with big trucks because when speed is gained my stability control and awd works better thn 4x4 on big heavy trucks. So yeah! It's not an emblem it's a driver!
@MegaCPC ummmm... i disagree completely. my xj would out wheel the crv, the ford and the chevy..... your talkin about a 1 ton truck vs my jeep, i weigh half, and am twice as small, the crv guy is on crack, my xj would out wheel is honda. obviously im a jeep guy, but what your driving and where your driving doesnt have that much to do with the driver. different vehicles are designed for different scenarios. now, a dually f-450 would drag my xj all over, but offroad id kick his ass.........
@deliveryboy1 Well obsiously a Jeep with half the weight and a short wheelbase is going to float in the sand. I think when I posted that comment people were arguing about the big 3 half ton trucks and which one was better off pavement.
@MegaCPC aahh... and whats funny is half of the shit talkers on here arent old enough to drive yet, or are, and dont own a truck..... but i see your point now.
@MegaCPC that is so true it comes down to the driver tire psi and in most cases the tire as well and it always helps to have a tow strap or chain and a shovel
@MegaCPC Well... that's not entirely true. Where you start does make a difference, though not as muh as people seem to think. In my experience, (which , as a novice, is not very extensive yet) Chevies tend to have a naturaly wider track, but are aslo slightly heavier. And, of course, you don't get much more dirt worthy than a Jeep
If you don't know what your, doing its easy to get stuck on the sand. I took my peg leg crown vic on the sand in pismo and made it. There is skill to be aquired to driving in the sand just like the snow. And when you do get stuck it is VERY quick and easy to set your car truck or van on its axles. And once on the axels it takes ALOT to get it out. 2-3 trucks pulling is not uncommon at all.
That was stupid...Three fuckin trucks? An extended cab in dunes? No fuckin shovels? Ive been stuck in worse in the ol' Dodge at night, by myself, and have actually dug myself out In South Padre Island.
Maybe because the idiot behind the ford (he'd have to be an idiot to be driving a ford in the first place) was buried to the frame because he kept spinning his tires.
reverse is not bad, if you have closed loops like the tacoma it and most trucks it doesnt hurt a damn thing, and thats stupid, dig out the fuckin truck dont just keep adding trucks to the line
@rkj4107 the front diff runs on the coast side of the ring and pinion, so no matter which direction, one of the diffs will be running on the "weaker" side. with that said, there's not nearly enough traction in the soft sand to be blowing a diff on any truck.
Ya theyre idiots for not calling a tow truck huh, take a wild guess at how much it would cost to get towed out of that...I really want you to reply with a guess
First off, its there own fault for driving it down that deep into the sand. And the damage they did to each others cars is going to end up costing more. Nothing like killing the tranny on your truck for something a tow truck could have done..
I'm pretty sure that doesn't do very much to your truck with purpose built parts for towing and things like that, I would rather do that than call a tow truck in for $2,000.
it all about air PSI is that key i got a 86 ford ranger i role around with 10-15psi in my tyers all day and i ant got to use 4WD unless i am pulling some one out
Reverse is not close to lower than first in samurais and I would think the same for other cars. Also, the gears are not cut to have a heavy load in reverse. My partner got to watch a strap come through the windshield last saturday thinking this was a good idea too. The spare would have stopped the strap before it came into the samurai
Good observation on the gears. Reverse are straight cut while forward gears are helical cut. Still, I've never heard of anyone damaging reverse pulling someone out. I agree with your logic, though.
I have to ask too. Where did every one get the idea it was better to pull backwards. Your drive train is stronger going forward, I would take the chain and leave it home. That is a death sentence there. One good tow strap and any of those trucks could have pulled him out by there selves. I have pulled motor homes out with my samurai here at Pismo as well as about every other make truck. Put a lot of slack in and use the momentum. cool vid.
Pulling in reverse does not work as well, and you're more likely to break drivetrain parts...and ditto what everyone else said. Air down, once you stop moving forward, quit spinning...
not bad, lucky you had all those friends. Air down , dig out and get all those people to push, but whatever works,. If you aint been stuck you aint been froden
just reduce the pressure.. till 10 psi, you got a big group of people.. just shake it from side to side and it will get out.. the sand will get under the tires and it will get unstuck.. we do it all the time at.. trust me ;-)
why is it every one has to keep there foot on the gas till you are buried to the frame? Makes it that much harder for the guy that has to pull you out. Makes for good videos I guess
FYI people watching this movie if you ever need to pull someone out DON'T do it in reverse... Ring and Pinions aren't designed to be torqued on rotating in reverse... so if at all possible always be moving forward when pulling someone out...
naa i think the toyota woulda done it if it were aired dwn and if the ford was aired out too i really doubt it should take that many trucks to pull out one truck
Dude! Always air down before going out on the sand. Let the air out of your tires until they become wide. 11 pounds of air in each tire is ideal. Also, don't stop unless you have to. If you do stop, make sure you aren't in a soft sport where soft powdered sand collects. Keep you speed up too. The sand is no place for low range. There are some areas where the sand is too soft and bottomless and doing all of the above may not help. So, go in a group. . . .Enjoy . . . Griz
DO A SEARCH FOR "Manuel Z on Surf Fishing" on the net I have a 5 part section describing how to drive the P.I.N.S. (Padre Island National Seashore). Hey we've all got stuck at one time or another! Cool Vid!
I was out a little pass the 10 mile marker a week ago. The sand has gotten that bad yet. I didnt have any problems. But I was chicken shit to go any farther with out other trucks with me.
You will be okay if you don't take too many chances. There will probably be a lot of people camping out for spring break. At times you could go for days and not see another soul depending on how far down you are. It sounds to me like your rig is up to the challenge too bad its a Ford :-). There is a lot of weird stuff that washes up on the beach. Take a video and post it on YouTube. ...Bob
sorry that truck will be far better off driving over big obstacles than driving on the beach....my buddies f350 is similar in size and with the diesel and it hates sand. The super swampers dig way too much, that beast ways like 8000 lbs! Plus it takes either another well planted superduty or several small trucks to pull out that monster.
nah, as long as your tires dont have to much grip on them itll be alright, im a true chevy fan but i gotta say they did wrong by going with the IFS on the new chevys ford done good with the solid axle
Only time iv ever gotten stuck on the beach was when i made a U turn onto some beach quicksand.. weight alone sunk it to the frame. Didnt even have to spin the tires. I had to lay down planks to drive out on. My experience was at the south end of Outerbanks, NC. Usually when someone gets stuck on the beach they didnt air down, they start slipping and think "Hey if i spin em up they will get traction and pull me through" Nope.. BS.. vice versa! The fatter and balder the tire, the better.

wow bunch of idiots, you don't pull out in reverse good way to break something
connmann66 3 years ago 2
not really, its lower gearing
XxGlamisDunerxX 3 years ago
Reverse has lower gearing.
Onimun 3 years ago
Reverse is weaker at the ring and pinion. It's a great way to blow a differential.
rkj4107 3 years ago 4
@rkj4107 My point exactly. Maybe the guy in the front might of had a winch..
Jevy383383 1 year ago
@rkj4107 the front diff runs on the coast side of the ring and pinion, so no matter which direction, one of the diffs will be running on the "weaker" side. with that said, there's not nearly enough traction in the soft sand to be blowing a diff on any truck.
alexrex20 1 year ago
lol, all you you are idiots. Call a tow truck =D
dragonblood199 2 years ago
Ya theyre idiots for not calling a tow truck huh, take a wild guess at how much it would cost to get towed out of that...I really want you to reply with a guess
800hennessy 2 years ago
First off, its there own fault for driving it down that deep into the sand. And the damage they did to each others cars is going to end up costing more. Nothing like killing the tranny on your truck for something a tow truck could have done..
dragonblood199 2 years ago
I'm pretty sure that doesn't do very much to your truck with purpose built parts for towing and things like that, I would rather do that than call a tow truck in for $2,000.
800hennessy 2 years ago
They are meant to tow in drive, not reverse.
dragonblood199 2 years ago
it all about air PSI is that key i got a 86 ford ranger i role around with 10-15psi in my tyers all day and i ant got to use 4WD unless i am pulling some one out
rangerman757 3 years ago
Reverse is not close to lower than first in samurais and I would think the same for other cars. Also, the gears are not cut to have a heavy load in reverse. My partner got to watch a strap come through the windshield last saturday thinking this was a good idea too. The spare would have stopped the strap before it came into the samurai
slowmotion4x4 3 years ago
Good observation on the gears. Reverse are straight cut while forward gears are helical cut. Still, I've never heard of anyone damaging reverse pulling someone out. I agree with your logic, though.

I have to ask too. Where did every one get the idea it was better to pull backwards. Your drive train is stronger going forward, I would take the chain and leave it home. That is a death sentence there. One good tow strap and any of those trucks could have pulled him out by there selves. I have pulled motor homes out with my samurai here at Pismo as well as about every other make truck. Put a lot of slack in and use the momentum. cool vid.
slowmotion4x4 3 years ago
yeah right
abcisneros 3 years ago
reverse is your lowest gear, even lower than first so you get more torque and just one of those trucks could not have pulled either of those out.
waynencc 3 years ago
lol? 4 cars
91Erry 3 years ago
Pulling in reverse does not work as well, and you're more likely to break drivetrain parts...and ditto what everyone else said. Air down, once you stop moving forward, quit spinning...
DavidRWymore 3 years ago
thats whey you dont buy a new ford, the old ones were ok though.

Cabindude109 3 years ago
not bad, lucky you had all those friends. Air down , dig out and get all those people to push, but whatever works,. If you aint been stuck you aint been froden

jonblazer05 3 years ago
just reduce the pressure.. till 10 psi, you got a big group of people.. just shake it from side to side and it will get out.. the sand will get under the tires and it will get unstuck.. we do it all the time at.. trust me ;-)

sully178 4 years ago
why is it every one has to keep there foot on the gas till you are buried to the frame? Makes it that much harder for the guy that has to pull you out. Makes for good videos I guess
slowmotion4x4 4 years ago
Sheez, do any of you know how to drive offroad?? What a bunch of dumbasses.
wrund 4 years ago
FYI people watching this movie if you ever need to pull someone out DON'T do it in reverse... Ring and Pinions aren't designed to be torqued on rotating in reverse... so if at all possible always be moving forward when pulling someone out...
Pretty nice stick :)

how many noobs does it take to pull out a ford ha
sm240drifter 4 years ago
its bottomed out genius. its gonna take more than a lightweight toyota
400modified 4 years ago
plus it would also help if u lower the tire presure
bignrich14 4 years ago
naa i think the toyota woulda done it if it were aired dwn and if the ford was aired out too i really doubt it should take that many trucks to pull out one truck
sm240drifter 3 years ago

This was on Padre Island at "Big Shell". It is way off the beaten track. All of these trucks were part of the same camping party. ...Bob

i got a f 250 with a 10 inch lift and super swamper sand tires, will it really be that much of a challenge?
horns1000 5 years ago
You will be okay if you don't take too many chances. There will probably be a lot of people camping out for spring break. At times you could go for days and not see another soul depending on how far down you are. It sounds to me like your rig is up to the challenge too bad its a Ford :-). There is a lot of weird stuff that washes up on the beach. Take a video and post it on YouTube. ...Bob
Robert78250 5 years ago
sorry that truck will be far better off driving over big obstacles than driving on the beach....my buddies f350 is similar in size and with the diesel and it hates sand. The super swampers dig way too much, that beast ways like 8000 lbs! Plus it takes either another well planted superduty or several small trucks to pull out that monster.
blazerk5drew 4 years ago
nah, as long as your tires dont have to much grip on them itll be alright, im a true chevy fan but i gotta say they did wrong by going with the IFS on the new chevys ford done good with the solid axle
stiltner1972 4 years ago
Super swampers aren't sand tires. They will help bury you. A nice set of MTs do great. Basically any tire with a soft sidewall
slowmotion4x4 3 years ago
cool rescue method :)

Never seen a 4wd truck stuck in sand.
But it´s normal beeing american. so much weight.
Buy a Toyota or a Mitsubishi ;) highly recomended
sirmob69 5 years ago
Only time iv ever gotten stuck on the beach was when i made a U turn onto some beach quicksand.. weight alone sunk it to the frame. Didnt even have to spin the tires. I had to lay down planks to drive out on. My experience was at the south end of Outerbanks, NC. Usually when someone gets stuck on the beach they didnt air down, they start slipping and think "Hey if i spin em up they will get traction and pull me through" Nope.. BS.. vice versa! The fatter and balder the tire, the better.
