  • My mom uses regular pumpkin and it still tastes the same! Haha

  • I've been looking this for long long time.. when I first saw it in Family Outing, I asked my mom to cook it.. I explain to her how the final look and she call me WEIRD..!! There is no way pumpkin turn into porridge.. NOW.. I can make it myself.. =D

    thanks Maangchi..

  • this is so YUMMY. a church friend made this for dinner. I was only visiting at their house. they gave me a bowl of it and i loved it..

  • @smcs Now you can make it, cool!

  • @Maangchi definitely :D

  • @Maangchi I tried it. =) I dont have that kind of squash but I used a diff kind of squash. I don't have rice powder but I used rice - cooked it into porridge and blended it til puree. Mixed both. Voila! It's the same taste. =)

  • gaah~ I love this! My grandma made the best hobakjuk.

  • I would be pretty happy if someone gave me soup when I was trick or treating. It beats getting an apple.Or a freakin toothbrush. That always made me so mad.

  • Hi

I love your cookings. I miss Korean food..

I like to make this one but I can't go to Korean grocery store.

We don't live in Big City.

Does regular supermarket sell Sweet Rice flour? I didn't find one.

What should I buy? Any rice flour?

  • Where would you find Sweet Rice Powder? Pls answer :)

  • @SecretCuteGirl I buy it at a Korean grocery store.

  • @Maangchi So normally it would not be at a normal grocery store? because I live about 2 hrs from a Korean grocery store so I'm just hoping for a way :) If not I'd have to wait to have time to go down there x_x"

  • This is a lot like the traditional pumpkin dish that we have, but instead of mushing the squash we cut it into random bite size ( a little bigger than the average bite size) then boil it and add sugar, but with no rice balls. ;) So I'm interested in trying this ^_^ thanks Maangchi!

  • wow the way the dough is made and the way it's shaped is how my family makes this chinese new years dish , this will definitely be easy to make and delicious :)

  • I'm vegetarian ,and a think that this recipe is amazing !!! thanks thanks <3

  • Hi maangchi, may i know what is butternut squash and where can i get it in Singapore? Can i use pumpkin instead of squash and is it the same method to make the korean red bean porridge too?

  • @Misssupershiny Any of the pumpkins/squash they use in SE Asia with a smooth orange inside are fine, like the ones the Thais use in curries sometimes. Like Maangchi said, the big orange ones (if you even have them there) aren't good, are fibrous and not so much for eating.

  • @sazji Thanks a lot for the answer!

  • hi maangchi, can i use cold water to make rice balls?

  • @mindoro33 no, if you use cold water, it will fall apart easily. Use hot water. Check the recipe and more tips and info in the recipe on my website if u want to make this. Good luck!

  • @mindoro33 im Chinese, but we make it with cold water, and its fine. you just need to get the ratio of water and powder right.

  • cute wig...

  • My boyfriend has such a good immune system, so he never gets sick... but WHEN he does, I'm making him this soup.

Thanks Maangchi. You're so cute XD

  • @bigalisme Thank you! Interesting! I should try this soup when I'm sick. : )

  • Can i use just one squash instead of 2 ... and how would that change for rice cake balls.... I really want to make it today lol... <3 YUMMY <3 with some Jjajangmyun

  • @RJXiao check the written recipe. I posted more detailed recipe, tips, and photos. See you there, : )

  • @Maangchi I did use the recipe from ur website and like the only thing tht didnt turn out right is the rice balls

  • @RJXiao don't give up making good rice cake balls. : ) Cheers!

  • Can I used the rice cake to make for any rice cake? like can i use that for duk boki?

  • @umiryuzaki90 making rice cake balls is not that difficult. Please follow the directions tightly to make delcious hobakjuk.

  • love the hair, love the music, love the recipies, love her personality, love the glasses

  • ooo i had this last time at the korean grocery store restaurant ~ but they didn't have the little balls ~ maybe its because its a fast food place ~ it was good but too thick like eating glue ~ i wil make this at my house next time but with the little balls

  • Hi Maangchi , in singapore we love to have sweet potato porridge and it taste really great ! (:

  • @xiiaobrandon sweet potato porridge sounds good! delicious!

  • Hello Maangchi! ^^

For the whole of my 15 years of living in this world, i have never tasted pumpkin. Really. So i have the urge to make this porridge. But the thing is, i cant find any sweet rice flour in my country. Though i can find GLUTINOUS RICE FLOUR. If that can be used, how many cups of sugar should i put in?

  • glutinous rice flour is sweet rice flour! Let me know how your pumpkin porridge turns out.

  • i live in mexicoand i havent seen a asian food market here so is it ok to use regular flower and cani add powdered sugar to it

  • yes, you can, but sweet rice flour (glutinous flour) is better, and also add powdered sugar, too. Good luck with making delicious hobakjuk and let me know how it turns out .

  • happy halloween i love your wig

  • I have tapioca balls at home for bubble tea. Can I use tapioca instead of rice balls?

  • Oh this looks good! Is it like a dessert ? I like your videos so far, I have only watched 3 but its nice and your too funny lol !

  • Yes, you can use this as dessert or snack, or breakfast. : ) Thank you very much, Welcome!

  • wow ur so diligent at making the rice balls xD i would never have the patience to do that

  • i watch that show too! family outing =)

  • I saw the Family Outing members (you know the one with Yoo Jae Suk) making this on their show, I immediately wanted to try eating this. Too bad I can't find any of those Rice Cake flour to make the balls here in Malaysia. I think they called it 'little birds' eggs' in the show?

  • try sweet rice flour or glutenous rice flour

  • haha! me too! my grandma always drink da pumpkin juice but i neva ate it like dis before...on family outing it looked delicious too!

  • @zmohdharith

can i know what episode is it??

the rice cake flour is actually the same with glutinous rice flour which means "tepung pulut" in Malay. I think you will easily find it here in Malaysia.

  • 너무 귀여운 망치~!! I really enjoy your show!!! Keep it up!

  • This looks so tasty! I am slowly starting to fall in love with korean food. I am going to try this recipe!

  • was that really your hair color? because it looks good

  • no, it's my wig! : ) Thank you!

  • cuteeee i <3 u maangchi!! u r so sweet and funny!! and btw the small rice cakes...you can buy them at any chinese market they come frozen! so you don't have to spend so much time making them yourself...but it probably tastes alot better if u make it hhahahah i loveeee all of your recipies!!!

Would you believe the supermarket in Korea doesn't carry sweet rice flour? Only glutinous. I had to get premade rice balls- what is convenience coming to?! I'm supposed to bring some into my Korean workplace tomorrow- hopefully they'll like it! Why do they want an American to make them Korean food? Hahaha.
