I wonder who put together this panel.. Along with Dawkins there are 3 that try to avoid being asked questions, an old woman who doesn't appear to have thought about this issue ever before and a female rabbi who talks nonsense (but with a very charming smile).
Lol that lady doesnt think that religious schools indoctrinate the kids. Ive never been to one myself, but I have done research on them, and I know a few people who have attended them. Some of my family goes to a catholic school. This is in the U.S. Im not sure about other countries, but they indoctrinate people very strongly here.
Why do they all (except Dawkins) find the need to start their answers with pointless statements? It's so annoying, "I believe that there are many religions", "I believe people are all different". They always end up saying, "stuff is different" which is such a pointless thing to say.
@sand0341 Thats political correctness in effect. Many these days are too shit scared to voice their true opinions through fear of offending someone elses opinion. These pc people take the middle road and feel comfortably smug with each others approval. After time they end up believing their own bullshit. Its agenda is totalitarianism. Only a strong individual mind is immune to this filthy disease.

Everyone is being so "well this side is right, but this side should be respected too" wah wah. Dawkins is the only one to take a stand and say what he really thinks.
@Lennac True! People critisize him as being strident but the fact is the difference between he and the majority of public figures is the lack of hypocrisy. The other extreme is the Fielding guy, oh he's not offensive at all, but does anybody care about what this hypocrite has to say?
Dawinks intellect is blinding. It's like he never has to think about an answer. I actually made an "ooh" sound when he answered the question about morals. :)
@PaulTheHeritic His evasiveness suggests that he's being disingenuous for fear of public disproval. As an American, I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see him dodge questions of irrational belief - I almost forgot he was a slimy politician. In America politicians behave similarly, but it's the overemphasis of personal faith and the appeasement to creationists and the religious aristocracy from the left that's disingenuous and cringeworthy. The Australian public must be awesome.
No. Kids are not smart. Kids are stupid. That's why they're in school. If they were capable of "working it out," then they wouldn't need to be in school.
@F1NGER It's unfair to call a kids STUPID. That's a little harsh. A child is certainly gullible, yes, because they aren't yet equipped to formulate their own opinions about things or think critically--that's part of learning--but they're certainly not STUPID. That's like mocking a newborn for not being able to speak intelligibly when you say something to it.
@billbenblue But it still applies though. You're only problem with that word is that it's "harsh." I could have said that they were unintelligent, irrational, naive, human beings with no common sense and it would have said the exact same thing as "stupid." The point is that kids are not "smart" or capable of making informed, intelligent decisions. Arguing that they CAN, is ignorantly appealing to emotion and poisoning the well. As the person on the panel was doing.
This is a great example of how most 'religious' people have no clear understanding of what they actually believe in because they prefer to have others 'think' for them without any type of personal search or questioning...whereas, people like Richard/Christopher are examples of making their claims based on their own clearer understanding of what they speak...whether true or not? at least they are solid in their explanation, research, facts, knowledge, etc the rest are IDIOTS trying to be clever!
"I don't think children get indoctrinated [at faith schools]."
Of course not. They're only growing up steeped in one particular faith with people also steeped in one particular faith. They aren't indoctrinated at all.
@comanchio1976 It's the nerdy (I mean that in the best way) equivalent of rolling up his sleeves. What an intellectual badass! What a well stated answer to an asinine question unworthy of Mr. Dawkin's attention.
i wonder if the guy with the glasses next to dawkins has any strong opinion of his own and if he does (which would be a surprise), does he have the courage to back it up logically, without being afraid to arouse opposition?
lol the Aussie guy on Dawkins' right's answer to every single question is "DIFFERENT PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT", and he keeps getting laughed at, that is so awesome.
Holy crap man, that Australia political guy has to friggin take a damn stand on something, stop the political double speak BS that never really ever answers anything at all. Take a position, its ok to say YES or NO, really, its ok.
How is it possible to have politicians as dumb Steve and the PM?
Begin every answer with "Look"....they try to employ the personal card, yet they want to inflict these personal beliefs on everyone!! Such hypocrisy!!
Look, you know. Different people are different, they will take their own choices and their own approach. I believe that people should believe in different things. At the end of the day, we all have our opinions. I'm not trying to force anyone.
we either teach about all the religions which would be hundreds of them or don't teach any of them... do you want your kids to spend countless hours learning about hundreds of imaginary gods or do you want them to spend those hours on learning real science and other worthy subjects.
I find it ironic that out of everyone in the panel, the rabbi included, Dawkins is the only one who doesn´t seem uncomfortable talking about religion.
@WillStanton First time I see the guy and I can't help but smile whenever he gets room to talk. I have never seen a more politically correct politician haha. His point of view whenever asked is basically "LOOK I believe everything is personal and everyone is right and no one is wrong and I try so hard not to anger anyone", with that nervous manner and sheepish smile of his :)
Oh my god and i thought i was ashamed of my harry potter christian democratic demissionair priime minister JP Balkenende of the Netherlands. But this guy surpasses my image of a nerdy harry potter religious politician.
Why did they invite three dopey policitians on? Very disappointing. And why invite Dawkins on and spend the last 20 minutes talking about boat people?
The creationist MP is abhorrent; first, he misdirects attention away from "awkward" questions, and then he goes on to relate an anecdote of the Australian PM and his pocket Bible, as if that makes everything a-okay.
Religion makes corporate stooges and foot-stool shills.
The comments for this part of the Q & A are as interesting as the video!

Absolute morality:
Men are able to marry and have sex with a 9 year old girl, and nobody can EVER change the Shariah law to make it others.
Whereas in the UK where marriage to children used to be legal it is now illegal.
