I like the distinction that TCM focuses on function and Western medicine focuses on form. Lymph is an example. I talked with my doctor brother about lymph. He said he used the word lymph in his lectures when he talks about swelling in the joints. He said he didn't know very much about the function of the lymph system and in fact he wasn't aware of any papers on this topic--as far as he knew, this was not a topic of interest in the medical community. No mention of cleaning out toxic pathogens.
