Yea bugs are weapons. I got a 69 bug aswell with a 2733cc kombi engine. 48mm IDF webers, big valve heads, porting, huge cam, custom 2.5 inch exhaust. Its absolutely insane to drive.
I had a 69 Bug with a 1776cc / dual carbs / dual glass pack exhaust it had more power than I thought it would (bugs are so light!), It was fun surprising people during a street race.
Ill never forget the time I pulled up next to an early 80's Chevy pickup, it was lowered, nice rims, Exhaust sounded good, I revved my motor and the passenger literally laughed at me and said "wanna race!?" light turned green and I was GONE, they tried but never caught up to me ;)
whats sad is that theres most likely twice the amount of money in that honda than in an the bug and yet it can only just barely beat it. ill take the bug. oh wait. i have one. :D
Japanese cars are all good but I ask myself this: will a nice looking sporty open top Honda S2000 ever make me smile? No,because the world will always think I am a huge dick in it and the world will never seem surprised at its fast speed when I put my foot down. I would much rather have an old turbo VW Beetle with a sunroof. Its charm and character would bring me many more smiles than any sports car ever could. No its not a "normal" motor but i bet its still air cooled. Most of the drag bugs are. Aircooled motors are lighter and therefore create a better power to weight ratio.

8000 with a modified aircooled flat 4 is nothing, lol. Perfectly streetable flat 4s turn 8000. Dad's race Bug was shifted at 8600 RPM ... after he retired the race car he put the same engine into his daily driver.
Classic beetles are reliable! My 74 beetle with original engine and who knows how many miles cuz the odometer was stuck at 80k b4 i owned it, and the car has never broken down on me. Ever. It's over 30 years old and has some problems (radio broken, stuff like that,) from before i owned it, but it's never failed me.

the s2000 is rwd, honda engines r good reliable engines that rev high, they just suk when in a fwd car, he didnt beat the beetle by much and the beetle looked like it wasnt that fast anyhow, but if he gets better at tuning itd beat a s2000 in a drag np and for less cash
Just for some of you guys info they are now able to push almost 1000 yes thats rite 1000 hp out of a highly modified air cooled volkswagen engine. Theese cars dont get enough credit. Looks can be very deceiving.
if you look it up... you'll find that there are dynos for VW engines that run up to 1000hp. As shown on pinks on one of the season fanallies they had a VW Beetle stroked and turboed with a 4bbl making over 300hp. There is a VW here in Texas that makes 400hp on nitrous, 300 on motor. They are capable of making 1000hp, just cause a nissan or a toyo can't doesn't mean a VW can't, who nother country whole nother tech.
:) Are you sure i mean 300-400 is not close to 1000. There are many nissan GTR's that have an easy 600hp on the street and 900-1000 for drag GTR's. 1000hp seems like alot for a air cooled 8 valve engine with only a 3 main bearing crank

There are no FACTS here anywhere. All I see is someone who has an opinion about VW's. I have worked on many years of Volkswagens oldest being 1968 and newest 2006. I have not found a jap car that comes close to having the same quality parts or being as easy to work on as a Volkswagen. Well, I will just say that I see about 30 jap cars broken down at the side of the road before I see 1 Volkswagen.
reliability surveys show that vw has horrendeous reliability issues, not just my opinion(which I base on facts) I even own a vw transporter the biggest heap of a car I have ever owned, had to take it to the shop more times than I can remember and as a good example of the brand the mechanics don´t even know what´s wrong with it, despite beeing a vw dealership!!
Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Subaru and hyundai usually top the reliability charts, and then on the other end you have the french and german.
Toyota is the biggest and the richiest manufacturer in the world. They bribe and manipulate surveys to make German cars look unreliable. Actually Toyota's quality have dropped past years. But Lexus, Honda and Mazda are very reliable.
So what? Lexus is more reliable, no matter what you think. Lexuses are made in factories with high quality control in Japan whereas Toyopets are made in every hole in the world.
I'm not trying to start an arguement or anything, we all have our own opinions. But Lexus is a luxury car company that was made and owned by Toyota, only for mass marketing in foreign countries outside of Japan. An example would be the Lexus IS300 in America, is the same exact car as a Toyota Altezza in Japan.
Clearly American car are the pieces of crap. All other cars with possibly the exception of some British cars will last a LONG time! Especially German and Jap cars!

As far as engine size, thats at least a 1915cc VW engine, which is only about a 70 or so cc's smaller.

yeah the S2000 is already fast. it was built as a sports car. the VW that guy probably built. that to me is a win in itself.
the time and effort to build that engine is what any real racer enjoys, the fact that you smoke someone on the track is just a bonus.

With just a turbo on a 1600 vw engine you can cut the 0-60 time of that bug in half-look up 1600 turbo and see for yourselvs.

There are no FACTS here anywhere. All I see is someone who has an opinion about VW's. I have worked on many years of Volkswagens oldest being 1968 and newest 2006. I have not found a jap car that comes close to having the same quality parts or being as easy to work on as a Volkswagen. Well, I will just say that I see about 30 jap cars broken down at the side of the road before I see 1 Volkswagen.

reliability surveys show that vw has horrendeous reliability issues, not just my opinion(which I base on facts) I even own a vw transporter the biggest heap of a car I have ever owned, had to take it to the shop more times than I can remember and as a good example of the brand the mechanics don´t even know what´s wrong with it, despite beeing a vw dealership!!
Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Subaru and hyundai usually top the reliability charts, and then on the other end you have the french and german.

Toyota is the biggest and the richiest manufacturer in the world. They bribe and manipulate surveys to make German cars look unreliable. Actually Toyota's quality have dropped past years. But Lexus, Honda and Mazda are very reliable.

I'm not trying to start an arguement or anything, we all have our own opinions. But Lexus is a luxury car company that was made and owned by Toyota, only for mass marketing in foreign countries outside of Japan. An example would be the Lexus IS300 in America, is the same exact car as a Toyota Altezza in Japan.
