You could fix daggers boards (rudders) to the cross bar which will make the kayak track better even with the flat base of the daylite paddler. Still use the paddle to steer of course. Have a look at the sail kit on your kayaks big brother.
You know what - thats an excellent idea and well executed. So long as the umbrella doesnt collapse from the wind. Heres what id do to make use of wind not directly behind you - use a line attached the the umbrella handle area so you can adjust the angle of it. Youll never go into the wind but you could better access winds on a broad reach. Nice job.
