I saw Wilco at the Ryman Auditorium for the first time in October and it was amazing! I found an artist that is in the same vein - Nathan Roberts. Check out NathanRobertsMusic.tumblr.com
I respectfully disagree fix135, I think the twin guitar attack is just complementing the solo and Nel's guitar doesn't need to be louder , it is just there sneacking in and out as you can see at the end when he in returns complements Tweedy and the other guitar player. Wilco os a great band cause they're incredible musicians with no ego who just add to the whole . Fucking love them! Have had two chances to see them and still haven't , all these years! stupid stupid stupid!
@TheJerryo1972 That's how I feel too. The mix works well. The solo isn't meant to drown out the rest of the instruments. It's packed nicely in the center of the rest of the mix quite nicely. This is my favorite version of the song in fact.
Heard this on Thursday live, in San Sebastian, they really have an incredible live performance. After the show, Nels gave me his pick, they're very kind with fans
I've seen many different performances of this tune, but this has to be the coolest. Nels really lets loose and strays from the album solo. Great vid! Thanks for putting it up!
The sound man should have been shot. When the guys go into the twin licks around the 4 1/2 minute mark, the solo gets almost completely drowned out. Sparks are almost coming off his fingers and you can barely hear it, what a shame. Other than that? Awesome song.
I swear, this is literally the best guitar solo I have ever heard. NO question. Forget about all of the legends, Nels Cline is my favorite guitarist ever.
@AdmiralDonuts Are you f-ing kidding me? I've played for 2 years and this is shit. Go watch Petrucci, Gilbert or Satch if you want to here some real guitar playing.
@JPbestrock listen, yeah Satch, Gilbert, Petrucci, Vai, McKee,Lane, Emmanuel and more are all amazing. we know. but its a different style. Never put down a guitarist just because they dont appeal to your particular style. If you have been playing that long you should realize. Guitar is a beautiful thing, everyone takes it in their own style. Just listen to the music. Its all expression. Donald trump makes more than most americans do, does that mean he works harder? No. Enjoy the music dude.
@JPbestrock To me, shredding is not impressive. Gilbert is the only of the three that you mentioned that I can somewhat tolerate. What's impressive is innovation. From the opinion of someone who has played for over 10 years, Nels is a much better guitarist than any of those people. Being so closed-minded will get you nowhere as a musician. Someday, you may learn what truly incredible guitar work is.
@JPbestrock I think you are going to find that your favorite players are Nels Cline fans. I've been playing for 36 years and have been exposed to nearly every major player out there and a whole lot of people never heard. Nels is the quintessential guitarist.
i first heard this song in the middle of nowhere snow surrounding me waiting for a bus late as hell for a job interview nervous about everything not believing there even is a bus and i'd stay stuck. turned the radio on because i wasnt able to listen to any of my music. and the second i turned it on- the guitars. everything disappeared. there were only snowflakes and the beautiful smell of the winter air. no anxiety. just me alone in a beautiful world. god smiled at me!
@SoullsTheGoal Ha! for your comment to rawesomef... also it's like bein at the show with all these comments. I feel the love that Wilco fans bring to a show, I'll say they've got some of the best fans
@jrivers3206 I was front row and Jeff was gracious, smiling the whole time, a real gent and a great fellow. He was probably having a bad night when you saw them. Watch some interviews man he's like the nicest guy in the world.
To me YFH is a standout ut it was my introduction to them (I was 30!) - the album was just so....?FULL , yes full. I really disliked YHF first time I heard it, but after a week the love affair began and it was with me for months driving all and sundry around me nuts. I used to leave parties early so I could go home put on YHF kinda loud, roll a big joint and just zone out - by the time I got to Poor Places (my fave song) I would be in heaven - yes YHF for me but it's all good
Favourite! They are excellent! I like this live version very much. Very nice sound from guitars. Amazing performance. And very nice solo full of emotions. What a end!
@rockinroller7 Right smart Rock ..ha.
