Totalitarianism- a political system where the state recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever feasible. Totalitarian regimes stay in political power through an all-encompassing propaganda disseminated through the state-controlled mass media, a single party that is often marked by personality cultism, control over the economy, regulation and restriction of speech, mass surveillance, and widespread use of terror.
I need a criteria for totalitarianism for a school project. Could you tell me if you're affiliated with any university or college, so I can evaluate the source?

Totalitarianism can not "happen" because its a state that society finds itself in. Also, I'd love for our world to be totalitarian. It's so majorly romantic.
@HelenaXVI with happen, i meant the process of a society to chance from a democratic (or vaguely democratic) state, to a position in which government controls most parts of human life. Could you explain why you would consider totalitarianism romantic? :)

@DieBesinnung But our neo-liberal civilization is also lame. For all its horrors, I do think that a scientific world that for instance the Russian commies envisaged, one of steel and glass, huge dormitories and loudspeakers telling us how good life has become, would have something romantic. At least it would be... majestic. Noe-liberalism is just lame. It tries to exploit and control every sphere of human existence but at the same time tries to stay cute and fuzzy.
