"... back home in Hong Kong... " as you said; technically, by saying this you are not Singaporean. The arguments are not cohesive nor supportive. You're biased and full of shit. Sorry; good argument, but not supported.
woah, good stuff here. glad i decided to click on this link! i think you make much sense, and i couldn't agree more with what you said about American influence! damm right you are! and also, you are funny :) good job!
I could agree with Hong's opinion abt Nicole's speech abt not seeing her MP around in her estate. That was a rather impertinent argument that she brought up.
But IMO her PAP counterpart, TPL, is by far a bigger and more shallow moron than her, judging by her self portrayal so far. I really don't know what possessed LHL to offer that twit to GCT. It's doing the SM a disservice.
BTW for those who are merely talking about housing issues like they know a hell alot about it FROM hearing what OTHERS are saying. I just want to let u know, that Mr Mah has implemented a total of FOUR fucking measurements to curb housing inflation. Dont fucking say we dont give a damn. If we don't, we won't be losing billions of dollars building fucking HDBs for you and giving you grants of like 40k to buy them. U be on the streets dude. So u better buck up and stop whining.
Do you know most if not all 1st world nations have high subsidies for Healthcare and Transportation for the people? Do you know the cost price in building HDBs while claiming "we won't be losing billions of dollars building fucking HDBs for you---"?
I can link you sites to justify cost prices of HDBs and prices for HDBs that are sold. The profit margin is about 250% per house sold. Do 250% profit margin mean anything to you when you claim they are making losses?
@xoxohil then DO YOU know how much tax they are collecting from these people and DO YOU know they are paying extremely high amount of property tax and GST every year for all these HIGH SUBSIDIES? And if you DID listen to Mah Bow Tan's speech on hiring outside accountants to calculate HDB's costs amounts they are INDEED making a loss of one over billion every year. Unless ur saying that Mr Mah, our MP is lying.
@yxinz Judging from our CPF compulsory along with living standard costs(low wages/high housing/high transport), it is safe to say at least 45-55% of employee's wages is spent monthly. This does not include EOY income tax.
I do know the global taxes and where socialists exists, taxes are 40% and above til 50%. We must remember though, they have free/near-free healthcare and other subsidies involved.
@yxinz Lastly I won't say anybody is lying, but there are hidden costs involved which HDB is never inclined to divulge. Building costs alone is confirmed at grand low rate, thus many are speculating the reason why the 250% profit margin is not able to press down the housing costs. There is not many middle-man situation involved here.
Unless there are credible statements on HDB earnings(which mostly will never appear), there can be no justification yet.
Srsly, some pple need to see what have been done for them.U want convenience? We build more MRT stations for you.u want better chance at education? We build more schools for you?u have no money for education? We give bursaries to u. u cant afford to go for an upgrade? We sudsidise 90% for u. Ur afraid of having no money when ur old?We have CPF for u.When you complain u have no money,we increase CPF contribution by ur company for you.So much more are done for u and now PAP sux because someone said so.
@yxinz Transportation and Education facilities are constantly looked into by all developed nations. "We have CPF for you" is a definite joke because the CPF sum is mostly belonging to person-savings involved. True, CPF contribution is a good policy, but have we realise in times of free-employment-choices, it is an liability in choosing an FT rather than an SG?
The most relevant problems currently are Transportation costs, housing costs and living costs.
@xoxohil Are u sure transportation is more affordable in most of the other countries? Are you talking about third world countries here? Hello, we have to spend a fortune on taking their tram and subway services. And issues like many old folks are left penniless, the govt came up with CPF to ensure that ur future is covered even tho they are not our insurance company. 2.5% interest rate is so much higher than if u were to put it in any banks. Honestly, I dont know why ppl are complaining abt it.
@yxinz Yes, I do mean first world country transportation. If you tag transportation cost to wage-median you will see it's more affordable in other countries.
You are one of few young SG(I presume) persons I know whom supports CPF idea. Apart from company recruitment liability, CPF meant mandatory contribution of income(for next 40-50 yrs life). It deters homegrown business setups etc. Fool proof is questionable when int.rate is 2.5%, while SG inflation is at 5% annum.
They will still need the money for their housing and safer than being it in their banks with low interest rates and the risk of spending them. CPF is a fool proof way to safe for ur future. Unless the fellow doesnt save and grumbles about having no money to spend, then I think its smth the govt doesn't want to see. And if u want transport to be FOC, it means using and depleting our money in the reserve to upgrade and maintain it. Whose fucking money are u using for the others to use it for free?
@yxinz Majority of SG investors/savers do not put money in bank anymore. They deal with assets/stocks/insurances. Getting 2.5% per annum means the value is decreasing instead of any increase.
@stanck58 - hahaha! thank you so much for the supportive words. As I have mentioned in my earlier comments, I strongly do not see a possibility of me entering politics (maybe not yet). I have a colourful history, but it is precisely the colourful history that allowed me to connect much deeper with my generation. That said, the colourful history will most probably taint any political attempts and ambitions.
@traderl303 - without those experiences, we make ill-informed decisions. It is not the fault of my generation, per se, that we have not experienced as much as the older generation did. Thus the title to my 4-part video posts, "did the PAP succeed, or over-succeeded?"
@traderl303 - I will not disagree with you when you say there is a possibility that the "noisy minority are making the loudest noise". However, that is my hope, it seems to me that a vast majority of my generation tend to disagree. I am not saying they do not appreciate what has been done for them, it is just a fact that they (we) did not experience what the older generation did, and thus without the experiences, make different (or wrong) judgments.
Seriously think about going into polictics if you are willing by the next election. You have your head and heart in the right place. Its a thankless job but someone has to do it. Hope u will seriously consider.
Thank you for this video. Hope there are enough ppl out there from your generation who can think like u. Singaporeans have become arrogant and not the government. We expect MPs to be slaves and not servants. We have become so swell headed that we believe the world owes us a living. Hope u have the resolve and will to turn things around before Singapore disappear from the face of this earth. Wish u the best.
I hope this video reach out to enough youngsters to make them think really carefully about their votes. Personal and petty issues and PAP whacking now seems to be the trend. I am inclined to think it could be the "noisy" minority who are making the loudest noise, much like the Tea Party was in America last year....i hope I am right cause If I am wrong...like you say, we are a small boat and it does not require any major waves to rock the boat

thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately, I think it is very important for us as citizens (and human beings in general), to be realistic about things. I am no where good enough to compete with the talent out there, on both the PAP side and opposition side (albeit a mere few).
Seriously dude, you are insightful, analytical, problem-solving, respectful, genuinely concerned, educated and clearly you know are tech savvy and all that shebang. JOIN PAP. DO IT.
@thugstercena: have you ever done anything wrong in you life? let me remind you, the answer is "yes you have". have you ever asked for forgiveness? have your parents ever gave you the chance and opportunity to prove yourself after committing a mistake?
did you spare a minute or two, to think about all the 'good' the PAP has done? if you judge people/teams based upon a few mistakes and ignore all the good they have done, then YOU shall be judged by others in similar light..
@scorpioo: apologies! hahaha! i thought it might be interesting, because i speak Chinese to half my friends, Cantonese at home, and English to the other half of my friends..
already being accused of one of those "ang mo pai" guys who do not understand the local sentiments..
@xXiaOdarkkXx - thanks for the comments. while I do believe that Singapore will vote wisely, the issue I am hoping to spark is merely that the Singaporean public, especially the younger generation, needs to be be a little more objective about things when analyzing situations and realities. five years later, you will be of 'voting age', and your perspectives might change by then, thus whatever happens, please remember to be rational, calm and subjective! GOOD LUCK!
I am glad you mentioned the difference in mentality between those who were borned before and after 1980s. It is true that the older generation may be more sympathetic with the ruling party because they understand what is the meaning of instability and poor. Thank you.
(continue) i truly hope that Singaporeans would vote wisely, for a better Singapore. No doubt the government had made a few mistakes here and there but they are not perfect. How sure are we that the opposition parties can do equally good or even better when they weren't the one that shaped Singapore to what it is today. When i look around, all i see is a safe & secure homeland with a government that protects its citizen. THIS is what i'm sure of, THIS is what Singapore needs.
hello, i chanced upon your video at the PAP facebook page because someone posted the link there and i really agree your viewpoints. I'm 19 this year (can't vote yet) but i've been catching up with all the news and updates of the upcoming election. I'm a proud PAP supporter (y) It's just so disheartening to see Singaporeans blaming/scolding the government for issues like money, ERP, influx of foreign talent and totally ignoring the hardwork the PAP had put in through out these years.
thank you for the comment and support. Indeed, the video is targeted at fellow friends of the same generation, and while I do not dare say it is the best written script, there are true emotions..
