Remarkable interpretation by Furtwangler in terms of expressivity never surpassed. Munch would come second in a better recording transfer though.

lovely, i do like furtwanglers style and great orchestra, unfortunately the german orchestral precision in some of the wind solos detract from it a little, still very nice though

Extraordinary! Didn't Arrau claim that the greatest performance of La Mer he had ever heard was conducted by Furtwangler? Now I can believe it.

Barenboim also said the most satisfying Debussy piano interpretation he heard was by German-trained Arrau. So much for nationalism and music.
