  • Know why your comment is lame? Because years ago, when beepers were popular someone said "This is bullshit! Just wait until you get home to get the message!" and years in the future, when neural wireless cellular implants are popular someone will go "This is bullshit! Just experience your youtube movies in 2D! Who needs more than a cellphone?". Get the fuck over it. Technology progresses.

  • on an average day as a baggage handler, at T.W.A. I personally moved on a wednesday, which was not the busiest day of the week 71,000 lbs through my hands from belt loader to stacking . dig this I tried to leave cause I always had to come home and lift wights, otherwise my joints would have fallen apart go ahead I have the low down

  • People on cell phones these days really fucking piss me off. At work, in the movie theatre, in the bathroom, school, out to eat, ALL THE FUCKING time people are on there phones, talking about bullshit they can not enjoy the fucking moment they're in, they're too busy playing games, checking scores , or other bullshit I hate cellphones with a fucking passion. GIve me beepers and that's all

  • @MRPAPADOP808 you from Hawaii. Ho sup mai badah :D

  • Wait this video isn't HD? This is bullshit..

  • This video is taking FOREVER to load. God damn iphones...

  • This guy is a f***ing genius.

  • 13 People lost their internet connection while flying in chairs in the sky.

  • its easy to understand once you realize its going to space

  • @afordian make that 16

  • 13 dislikes?

    More like 13 spoiled brats...

  • People take this for granted because this generation never experienced the things they had 30 years ago. All this technology is the standard for us. Rotary phones and walk-in banks are things that are standards for him. It's a relative topic, depending on when you were born. But he raises a good point, YOUR IN A CHAIR, IN THE AIR, FLYING TO ANOTHER STATE IN A FEW HOURS. Like holy crap that's amazing! But it's all relevant. In a few decades, we'll say the same thing to the newer generation.

  • Ripping good laugh!!! A comedic heavy weight!

  • I haven't flown much, but every time I do, I think the same thing "I'm in a chair, its in the sky, and I'm flying". He's right man, really technology today is crazy!

  • they need to show this in all airports. i have not complained about anything flight related since i saw this.

i've also been screaming while on the plane, didnt go over too well...

    "OMG! I'M FLYING!"

  • One can only hope the people who really need to see this video, and who think this is an good viewpoint, actually do something about their lives to follow it up!

  • wise words.

  • Do we really need to be thankful we still have pants on and a shelter for the night?

What about progress - and I do not mean technical progress - but us as beings. Are we really no better than fungus? Yes we truly need to be thankful humanity is going to remove itself from the planet. Why don't you have some more burgers and french fries while waiting for it to happen.

  • lCK has a lot in common with Henry Rollins

  • he does the best interviews

  • I saw an interview with Lewis C.K. and he said that there was no other person it was actually him. But I still find it very insighful and a wonderful story because we can see ourselves in others. I love it. We have so much to be thankful for. God bless America and may He bless us every one in the world.

  • What happen with SouthAmerica we need basic needs, we need decent salaries,

we would want an Iphone, not a "old nokia" We would like to "live" not survive.

I think if we had all your stuff we would be unhappy anyway Why?

Because Human nature wants more and more.

About this video, this 's happening cause we are receiving services and information faster so we are not pacient.

  • "Nicer way to say it than that" "NO!" hahahah

  • I love this clip. It never gets old! :)

  • That's why it's important to have old people in your life so they can remind you how spoiled your ass is. I grew up on videogames, my grandfather grew up on on that paddle thing with a ball attached to it with a rubber band.

  • thats try everything is amazing and people are still more dressed as ever

  • @MrJesus7373

Please refrain from commenting on something you obviously have no comprehension of. True religion is nothing less than fact revealed directly to man from God. Faith is the knowledge of that source, and of its veracity. Pure religion undefiled is nothing less than pure truth. It is things as they truly are, uncorrupted by the faulty and cloudy assumptions that we call "knowledge". Stop being ignorant and close-minded if your truly want knowledge.

  • @PierzStyx

True religion is nothing less than pure slavery. Which religion is pure truth by the way, Mormonism, Islam, or Jehovahs Witnesses? I'm sorry retard, but a voice in your head isnt god, it isnt truth and it isnt true knowledge. It's just you repeating what youve been taught. Gotta go now. Jesus wants to blow me. Later.

  • @MrJesus7373

Its also amusing how you try to anger me with your crude comments about Christ. You sound like a child; like you are 9 maybe 10 years old. It far form angers me, it makes me pity you more than anything. You are a sad, bitter, foolish, close-minded, brain-washed, and blind little person.

  • Hm, I find I'm very happy. My technology craps out all the time...I'm so used to it now that it barely affects my mood. I just try to find a lot of different fun things to keep me busy...if they all fail, then I guess I would just go to bed. :P

  • Very nice reminder.

  • Oh, how much Louis CK echoes the obvious problems we have. This bit, and his bit on being broke.

And there are organizations that exist that have solutions to fix it. But sometimes radical solutions produce irrational responses.

Warning: Slight promo of my channel just to give you information: The film Awakening breaks this down very well.

  • Now did you think that up ALL by yourself, or where you preached about it..

  • louis ck is the man, im gonna miss conan though :/

  • This is the best kind of comedy. The Sarah Silvermans of the world would be hard pressed to pull off this kind of comedy because it offers no chance for swearing, being disgusting, or discriminating against minorities.

  • Oh, no, off TV Louis CK does all those things constantly. Swear laden, un-pc humor about the darkest shit imaginable. However, it's usually prodding at something deeper and more meaningful than a "oh, look at me, I'm edgy and cute and don't care about anything" charade.

  • Yeah this is probably one of his absolute best moments. : )

  • Louis CK is the best around nowadays, if you ask me. Since Chappelle decided to stop. And since Carlin died.

  • In everything give praise: for this is the purpose of God in Christ Jesus for you.

    (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

  • @CKYnHiFi WTF??!!!1

    XD

  • See title of the video. Being thankful, man. It's the meaning and the purpose, brother.

  • AMEN

  • @CKYnHiFi

i just find it odd to quote the bible on a video like this.

i am thankful for a lot of things. none of which have anything to do with any god =)

  • @Ford

Pangea titled this based on their personal impression of the video, which is quite similar to my own, but the truth remains the same. The general ungratefulness and dissatisfaction that Louis CK is referring to is symptomatic of a bigger problem, one that's affecting the entire world. People flock to wealth and material possesions, seeking something to fulfill them, but are ultimately disappointed. A dollar bill is a distraction, that's all. It doesn't heal hearts.

  • @CKYnHiFi

    i totally agree.

like i said: i just found it odd/unnecessary to quote the bible.

  • @Pangea

Well, I quoted Scripture because it's why I believe what we're discussing so strongly. I believe this drive for monetary fulfillment comes from trying to fill a hole or a void that's been in place since birth. People will throw anything down that void, (drugs, booze, women, men, money, etc.), but there's nothing large enough to fill it. Except, the Lord. That's what worked/is working/will work for me. :) If not God, what do you think this problem is sympotamtic of?

  • @CKYnHiFi well that's your view and you're entitled to it. but i think. that's all just rhetoric. nice metaphor but it has no truth to it.

nobody has any "voids" to fill.

it's a mix of genetics and experience that makes us who we are and that determines how we go through life.

this video just says we shouldn't take everythink for granted and should be thankful for the good things humanity has achieved.

you're overanalyzing and projecting you religious views on this. btw louis is an atheist.

  • I'll respond in a message due to the character count.

  • Please spare us the GOD bullshit. Louis CK despises organized religion (as do I). The more educated a person becomes, the LESS they believe in the "invisible man in the sky" story.

Religion is one of the largest creators of dissatisfaction, especially when people realize the whole thing is a bullshit story told by liars and hypocrites for their own gain.

Only a demented person could take LOUIS CK and turn it into a talk about "scripture".

    Fuck scripture and fuck yourself.....

  • fuck. off.

i didn't even read the other guy's post.

but you're still a prick and or a faggot.

who gives a shit what louis c.k. believes or anybody else.

nobody gives a fuck about what some limp dick athiest has to say about religion on page with comedy video on it.

  • @regulargeye

I have a different belief or opinion and I'm hated like that? Sorry, you're so angry, brother...blessings on you. I hope whatever messed up your day gets better.

For the record, religion DOES breeds dissatisfaction, frustration, and unhappiness. It's very different from a relationship with the Lord. Seems like your mind's made up, though. However, "education" means never ceasing to ask questions. This question takes a while. You're not done yet, despite what you believe.

  • Actually there is the tendency in LDS religious tradition that the MORE EDUCATED you become the MORE FAITHFUL you become i.e. the more shool LDS go through, the mor ethey actually attend church regularly and confess to greater faith. Why? Because pure religion, uncorrupted, is Truth. And truth calls to greater Truth, no matter the source.Even from the source of a non-believer.

  • I really appreciate your comments. I found the attacks on your comments more telling of those who made them than anything else. As they typically are and also made me realize how much you can gain truth from any source, regardless of what Louis C.K. professes to believe or not believe in, most people don't even know what they truly believe and are still learning as they go. It is insights like this one on the clip that lead people to the truth. God bless you, thanks again for you insight.

  • Brother, understand it's not us they attack, but the light of Christ they see in us. Truth dwells in all of God's creation because all things exist to glorify Him. Atheists will glorify His name, agnostics will, believers will. Whether we and they choose to or not. He is in control. Our only job as believers is to thank Him, admit our inability without Him by being dependent on His word, and be obedient to the tasks given to us from the Spirit.

  • You could've stopped at "there's nothing large enough to fill it." Everyone has to decide what they think is most important in life: wealth, fame, religion. But in the end all of those things are meaningless. The only meaning life has is the meaning each individual assigns to it. And that is a tremendously freeing notion to those who can accept it.

  • @MrButlertron12 spoken like a true existentialist!

  • For the record, there are many happy people who seem to have NOT been born defective or in need of a supplementary moral compass - ie religion. You don't have to have a god to be a good or happy person, and there are certainly many unhappy or otherwise downright evil people who are very religious. Things are bad out there for a lot of well meaning people, and religion isn't going to pay their bills in the short term or fix a broken social system in the long term.

  • wow... thats great

  • It's good to be reminded to be grateful for the technology we have today.

  • now let's ask him about 8 -tracks :)

  • Ha, "there's a nicer way to say it than that" "NO!"

  • it is a wake up call and everybody laughs...very typical...the real thing happens after the show when you have your cellphone in your hand and watch the display

  • Comment removed

  • Conan is a Liberal Tool.

  • "The speed of light is too slow for you?"

  • brilliant!!!!!. so true!!!.

  • He doesn't seem to realize it, but as he is describing how life was like when he was young and how one had to wait when dialing a zero on the rotary phone, he is actually doing exactly the same thing that he's accusing the current generation of - "being ungrateful".

Technology doesn't so much make life easier, as making it more complex and this with ever increasing speed. It's an arms race between the need for comfort and growing demands. Nihil novi sub sole.

  • and you dont seem to realize that part was a joke lols

  • @ RealistRichN:

Hmm, even if it's funny this is meant as a statement nevertheless. Satire works that way. He got the audience laughing, but he's definitely trying to make a point here. Doesn't he? But maybe I am just having a different understanding of comedy and satire in general, than you do. That's fine with me.

  • But if you believe anything that is funny can't impossibly have a serious background, go ahead and watch?v=J0rSXjVuJVg

  • the point isnt about how people are ungreatful, the point is that it sucks that we cant appreciate what we have despite how far we've come watch?v=BjNgNDZzH5o

  • @ RealistRichN:

Thank you for that link. I was really surprised that his "joke" had such an impact, that they made an interview about it. Amazing that you actually found a video in which CK supports both our views. I was wrong about one thing though. He DID realize that he was unappreciative himself. After all he was the person that was complaining about the unstable internet link on the plane. Fascinating guy!! And thanx again RealistRichN

  • its so true everything, he said alot of people have self entitilemt or something, you know like they are better than everyone else and damn it all if they dont get their way, a friend of mine was on a subway train and it was shortturned and this lady fliipped, yelling at the crew, like "you're not doing your job, i should have you reported to get audited" what a bitch, the train was being rerouted to fill gaps in rush hour it wasnt to spite you!

  • mate what the hell are you talking about 9up246

  • Nice!

  • dat was a kool play sign in da beginning of da video

  • This is comedy, good comedy. Observational stuff is the best.

  • Who is this Patriot?

  • 知足常樂, that's the title in Chinese

  • 你是不是聪明,你他妈的

  • LOL. stop using translation machine

your sentence makes no sense at all

  • I thought it made perfect sense when I put it back in the translator. But I guess I just should have learned the entirety of the Chinese written language so that I could act like a smart ass like you. I'm sure that is what you did since you don't believe in "translation machines".

  • I am a Chinese and I know Chinese

is it what a "smart ass" means to you?

if it is, OK then Mr. not-so-smart ass

  • No, a "smart ass" is someone who goes around posting video titles in Chinese to try to boost his self importance. And if not knowing Chinese makes me...uh..."Mr. not-so-smart ass". Then you might as well throw the majority of the world in with me, doucher.

  • The reason why we cannot enjoy all these amazing things is not because we are ungrateful, but because amongst all these wants being lavished on us, we are in a state of emotional starvation because we are not getting or being allowed to give what we need most: love, a sense of security, a purpose in life, a sense of security and predictability about our safety.

  • I've generally found that when I'm failing to enjoy something amazing, it's because I'm in an ungrateful state of mind.

But then, as impressive and useful as things like planes and the internet are, they're hardly *truly* amazing.

This is one of the foundational failures of consumer capitalism, which is why it needs to constantly promote itself - telling us how amazing it is when if it truly was, it wouldn't need to.

A_muse_ment is no substitute for free will.

  • Nah, it is because we take things for granted. When someone gets used to something so great, they eventually expect that same thing if not more from everything and everyone without giving anything in return.

  • Great comment.

  • This is a good point, I have to say that while there are those who truly are ungrateful I do believe that we are so pre-occupied with mere survival, pettiness, instability with the economy, etc that it is easier to take the simple and wonderful things for granted.

  • I agree!

  • i didn't mean to give this a thumbs down (i can't un-do) - sorry! (i don't actually agree with what you wrote but i definitely didn't mean to give you a thumbs down - again, sorry!)

  • theres a great lie perpetuated by politicians and tv commercials alike, which says that having all of these hi-tech gizmos--that having an easy and "secure" life lived for us--will make us happy. therefore we are ultimately UNhappy because this lie is just....well, a lie.

what would really make us happy is to have the freedom and power to live our own lives the way we want them, a power which we have ceded in a way to the same elite few who sell us the gizmos and tell us the lie.

  • we commoners, blinded by greed and the lust for "technology," have long since forgotten the great struggle of mankind throughout all of recorded history: liberation from control by others and the right to self-determination, true freedom. knowing we are losing this battle is a great source of my own unhappiness.

  • so yes be thankful for what you have (other than technology, fuck that its not important), but be aware of what you still need to gain.

  • Don't worry, things will get better.

  • @SilverRedIndigo Poor 'us" having all of these "wants being lavished on us." The problem you state is not that we are in a state of emotional starvation because we are not *getting* , but that we are not *giving*. No one can stop a free willed individual from giving love. In fact, love is the desire to give at one's own expense. The exact opposite is getting at someone else's expense, which is the essence of lust.

  • @SilverRedIndigo Thats a good point, but i think its not the love thats missing god is love and everyone needs to let god in the thing that makes human beings not able to enjoy themselves is technology. Technology is an extension of the serpent leading us astray and telling us to take a bite from the apple (apple's logo is a bitten apple)

  • @SilverRedIndigo I see your point...but, no one is stopping you from giving love.

  • @SilverRedIndigo thats bs. the world is safer than its ever been. if people want those things, there has never been a better time to have them.

  • @SilverRedIndigo: Totally right...read Erich Fromm's book: "The art of loving" :)

  • I liek egz!

  • do you seriously have nothing better to do with your time then looking up videos of people you apparently hate to post completely bigoted comments on youtube? that must be sad. no wonder you're so angry. its comedy pull your head out of your ass.

  • HOLY CRAP A MORMON LOUIS CK FAN!

I was going to tell the person who wrote the description to shut up but I'm too amused that they happen to be a Mormon posting a Louis CK video. I thought you had to be Canadian not from Alberta to be Mormon and appreciate CK.

  • Not exactly sure how to take your comment. Was your comment judging members of the Church of Jesus Christ or Canadians or Canadian members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and why would you tell me to "shutup"? This is great and personally I think you'd have to be really out of touch not to enjoy CKs humor.

  • I'm both Mormon & Canadian and saw Louis CK on Saturday. I don't think, first of all, that it's required to "be in touch" to enjoy jokes about him saying "Nigger Baby" in his sleep. All of his humour short of this clip does not represent what any member of the LDS church would find "uplifting" or even acceptable. The previously planned "shut up" was for that lame inspirational description. It's Louis making his usual comments about everyone being a selfish asshole, this isn't the doctrine of God

  • Okay that makes the most sense as I have not really sense most of his material. However, that said, I find we can learn truth, as I am sure you would agree also, in even the crudest comments I also enjoy some of George Carlin's routines though I admit I personally get a little tired of some of the language and certainly would never approve the use of any racial, cultural or religous slurs. What I find interesting is how many on YouTube or elsewhere who don't know us are so quick to judge.

  • You know what's really funny? A group of people who decided to follow a guy who said he met and angel who showed him some golden plates describing a visit of Jesus to America. AND they pay for that privilege.

Go have a Coke, hate a gay person and get a sense of humor.

Oh...you know what else is funny? Mormons who use curse words and Canadians who put a 'u' in humor. Now THAT'S comedy!

    :)

  • Every religion has a back story just as ridiculous. Of the millions of possible examples, all of Christianity believes a guy walked on water, fed thousands with 2 fish a loaf of bread and was resurrected back to life after dying.

I drink coke, I find Louis CK funny and i don't hate gay people. I don't understand what you're getting at. What are you trying to say?

  • OH I get it, you aren't trying to saying anything insightful you just want to make yourself better because you're at community college and your ego gets off on looking down on the "ignorant" religious people. You probably live in a blue state and you saw some news story on Prop 8, and when you saw this you thought you'd score some brownie points with yourself.

There's absolutely nothing humourous in the fact I said asshole but I'll give it to you there's nothing more hilarious than linguistics.

  • HA! 'You people' are too easy.

See, you could have just left a comment that wasn't predicated on your religious belief but no...we just had to know that you're a Mormon.

I'm not sure what your little group/cult has to say about putting down others beliefs (and perspectives) but I would guess you support that. Without enemies you're impotent.

    So predictable.

    So self-righteous.

    So desperate.

    So sad.

  • Actually I had already pointed out I was Mormon and you described beliefs exclusive to Mormonism. it's in our doctrine to respect other religions.

  • Ahhhh...I get it now. So when you said:" Every religion has a back story just as ridiculous..." and then went on to make fun of Christianity that was meant to be respectful. Can't believe I didn't see that!

Well, I guess that's the great thing about religion. As long as you say you are a believer you really don't need to act like it. I might have to look in to this religion thing. Seems to be a free pass to get away with a lot of stuff.

  • How could I mean that as insulting to Christianity when my own religion is christian and believes in the same story that I described in my example of all Bible based religions.

Religion, regardless of its truth, holds people more accountable for the their actions as it increases moral responsibility.

  • Well, if you want to publicly declare your belief in what you term "ridiculous stories' that's your business. Can't quite understand why someone would willingly believe in falsehoods but hey, people believe what they see on the Glenn Beck show right? One can never underestimate the stupidity of people.

And as soon as run in to some religious types who are actually more moral than those non-believer's who do the 'right thing' just because it's 'right,' I'll let you know. (Don't hold your breath)

  • I was simply showing how the beliefs of any religion can be described as ridiculous, no one said anything about falsehoods. I don't know if people really believe Glenn Beck, luckily I don't live there and have to deal with the stupidity of him or his followers.

I like the idea of you determining the morality and intention of religious and non-religious people. That should work well, clearly you're not biased at all.

  • Thank you. I have to agree 100% with that comment.

  • Yes. Christians do believe that...because it's true.

  • Well put, 'littlelady...'. :-) !!!

    ~D.B.

  • I write books for kids that teaches them how to grasp their dreams. "The Secret Daydream" It is the Law of Attraction for Kids. One of the main things everyone needs to learn in order to go to the next step is to be appreciative of where you are and what you have in life. This video gives a whole other perspective of being grateful. I would give it 10 stars! Its Fantastic!!!

  • Flying isn't what is actually bad, it's the shitty security procedures they sometimes make people go through...

  • simplicity is important for happiness

  • it is all true!!!!

  • Awesome ! ! !

  • Who is that guy, I am forever his friend.

  • louis ck

  • not only should we be thankful for this lifetime but also this country imagine if u lived in a third world cuntry no electricity clean water medical care trip-hop and trance no tvs even in the usa some people still dont have some of the things most of us dont think about were so used to it i remember there was a power failure in my neighborhood it lasted maybe a few hrs and it sucked

  • So true!!!

  • This is one that should be played at school instead of Oboma's speech.

  • Louis CK is VERY on the money in all his routines. That being said...

The President of the United States' surname is spelled O B A M A.

Did you read the speech you are refering to? If yes, what points exactly did you take exception to? The working hard and stay in school parts?

  • I think micsimmons50's point was that we grew up (or are growing up, or living in) in a society which has soo much technology, soo much culture built-in that we feel offended for a simple delay, bad word being said or even if there is not enough sugar in a cup of coffee. While people from 100 years ago would think they are in heaven if they were to live in our days.

  • I didn't like Obama's speech, because all he did was say 'stay in school'. That's it. Except it took almost an hour. And I would have been fine with it, except he didn't even manage to make it seem semi-motivating. Not even a little bit interesting to anyone at my school, I guarantee it. I also remember feeling sort of insulted at times, but that's beside the point...

  • I couldn't have said this better myself. But it was right off the tip of my tongue as I heard it said.

This was a screamingly appropriate speech for Conan's show...

  • Wow - so I'm not going insane after all - somebody else is saying exactly what I'm thinking - yeah we live in an amazing mindblowing world and people are fullashit - let's give thanks for this guy - if only there were more people like him around then we just might deserve all the amazing things that are here for us now !

  • you're sitting in a chair...in the SKY!

    hahahahaha

    love louis!

  • THIS IS GREAT.

  • He makes a very good point. We should all be more grateful for everything in our lives
