You all suck. If you say The Ocean's Precambrian was better than their next two albums, then you just don't like The Ocean.
I've yet to hear a single song of theirs which hasn't become stuck in my head and this song, this album, and all their albums all have the same tapeworm effect.
First Impression - I like It, reminds me alot of Fluxion, the vocals i'm still gettin use to, I like them but they're so like "polished / pro" i'm not use to it lol. Helliocentric was rad but it's a matter of taste on that one I think, (not my fav), as for the "not as good as Precambrian" thing everyone's been saying, I would agree but Precambrian was one of those, I don't it can topped atmosphericaly. We'll just have to see...Fogdiver for the win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All right* .. Also, via the reviews that have already released, it's apparently beyond "Alright" and has transcended into Magnum Opus territory. Thanks for the commeny though.
@xDigi .. It's just a simple spelling mistake, there's no need to call me out on it. Furthermore, there is one review that calls this song "the worst progressive metal song ever recorded". I don't agree with the reviewer, but I also don't think this song is by any means a magnum opus. Granted, I like it, along with all songs by The Ocean. However I've just found since the lineup change after Precambrian that they've compromised their style quite a bit.
@xDigi Yeah, I haven't listened to it yet. There haven't been any links for download available, so I'll just have to wait until I get it in the mail. I like what I've heard, though. I took another few listens to this song as well, and it is definitely better than what my initial reaction implied.
@DazedAndConfused1992 I was the same way with this song, actually. Whenever I was recording it, I was kind've like .. ugh, this isn't very good. Then after I listened to it a few times it really grew on me.
@xDigi Don't you just love how that works out eh? So many songs that I almost ignore the first time I hear them but with time they grow and become favorites.
@DKGerbil Depends what you're comparing it to, I suppose. On the new album they did a pretty good job at introducing new genres into their music: Elements of stoner metal (Sewers of the Soul), post rock (Wille Zum Untergang), and some cool synth/ violin/ female vocals work (A Tiny Grain of Faith). So in that regard, yeah, they did expand. As for their heavy material including Heaven TV, it's an improvement from Heliocentric, but still compromised from how heavy the first three albums were.
@DazedAndConfused1992 So you're saying that they've compromised their heaviness. That's entirely different than style. Their style has expanded since Precambrian and I think they're all the better for it. The point of music isn't to make it as hard as possible.
@DKGerbil Okay, you've got me there. I think really the only problem I've had with their newer material is that it's nothing like I expected it to be after I heard Precambrian. It's really unlike anything I've heard before. With the new albums, they sound a lot more commercial, which isn't really a reason not to like something, but in this case after something like Precambrian, it was a strange switch, and something I'll need a few more listens than usual to really appreciate.
@DazedAndConfused1992 The funny thing about this but the "epic deathcore" sort of style of Precambrian to me was more marketable than their all over the place sound that they currently have. Having the singer that they chose has scared plenty of people off as that sort of singing really doesn't go well with the fans who typically would listen to something that sounds like Precambrian and since they still have the screaming alongside it which scares off more "mainstream" listeners.
@DKGerbil yet you have to consider that there have been clean vocals n precambrian as well, like in rhyacian and stenian, they weren't just that ubiquitous like on helio or now anthro (from what i've heard yet)
Just in case you didn't know: Robin (guitarist) wrote all the songs 'til now, including HELIOCENTRIC. ANTHROPOCENTRIC is actually the first album on which the others contributed in the songwriting... And I have to say that it sounds better then HELIO, but it was foreseeable this would be a "transitional" album... wait and see I'd say...
@TheMandalic Sorry for not responding quicker, but yeah, I grew to love the entire album. I bought the vinyl and it shows which member wrote what song, so you get a good look at where the musical influences come from. As for this song itself, I can humbly admit that I didn't give it enough time to really be able to comment. The guitar lines are pretty fantastic.
@DazedAndConfused1992 To call this song "the worst progressive metal song ever recorded", the reviewer in question must be either A) a person with absolutely no sense of metal history (there has been far worse in the world of progressive metal, ie. Dream Theater), B) retarded, or C) an impressive combination of both. I'm leaning towards C.
Yeah, I'm kinda wishing I didn't use that quote. It didn't really help me out in what I thought was being persuasive. Oh well, I'll know for next time.
Being a teenager doesn't mean I have terrible taste. If you're commenting because of my thoughts on this song posted a few months ago, I should update that I've grown to like this song quite a lot. It just took a bit of time.
