I've never had any problems with Vista, maybe a small error message here and there but nothing happened to my system, I just clicked okay and went back to work. In fact, I would still be using Vista if my mother didn't step on the laptop and break the monitor.

Ubuntu is good for programmers, hackers... all-in-all computer nerds.
@MirageBistro directx 10 is more than enough. the ability to use multiple cores that your CPU/s has/have might add to it. the ability to format your drive in ntfs and not only fat16/32 it's a plus too. all this helps a lot in playing games smoothingly, watching HD movies etc. but if you only use word and internet explorer to google and watch movies on youtube, than xp is more than enough.
That's funny.Windows 2000 & xp are also multi core capable operating systems. They both allow you to format fat/ntfs, and as long as you have the drivers for your video card, any "HD" movie can be rendered.
@MirageBistro windows 2000 is a windows nt type, xp isn't. therefore ntfs HDD format is out of the question. I know I had a ntfs type drive formatted in windows 2000 back in 2001, and xp did not read it. i had to reformat it. about multi-core, maybe they made some updates recently, in 2007 they were not multi-core capable. nevermind.

XP was, and is, the only reliable system I've found. I used to have Vista, and needless to say I found myself simply dissapointed at how slow it was. I had a pretty high end PC back then and it took 5 minutes to load Windows Explorer. Windows 7 looks worth a try but I'd rather stick with my XP until I'm sure of it. So yea. XP ftw.

Macs use the same Intel processors you can find anywhere else. The motherboards are a little different and probably specially produced by Foxconn to have preloaded OSX. The graphical chips are also the same ATI/GeForce we all know. For the 700$ the Mac Mini costs I could build a 5 times faster computer.

Now the war is between MAC and PC, while MAC is an OSX based computer and PC is any Windows based computer, so the war is pretty much between the OS software, not the hardware. The hardware is more or less universal. Motorola was kicked out from this a long time ago and seems to be floundering anyways. I don't really see why it's unfair, all the parts are as available to Apple as they are to me, but they choose to use inferior parts instead.

Mac and IBM use completely different processors and support hardware. I worked with both systems. They're totally different physically, but even the machine code is different. Macs are more expensive for a reason. And the MAC MINI is very reasonably priced and less expensive than most PCS operating less efficiently.

@SounzNice Thanks for copying most the comment I originally replied to. I agree that the software part is a bit different (obviously), but the hardware is very similar nowadays. Macs use the same Intel processors you can find anywhere else. The motherboards are a little different and probably specially produced by Foxconn to have preloaded OSX. The graphical chips are also the same ATI/GeForce we all know. For the 700$ the Mac Mini costs I could build a 5 times faster computer.

@SounzNice No, they are similar. What did I duck, did you at least read the comment? Macs use Intel CPUs for 5 years now, they're all exactly the same. You think Intel makes special modified processors for Apple or something? And I'm not even sure what you refer to when you say IBM. IBM makes Lenovo PCs nowadays, they are garbage. And I have built plenty PCs myself, for 700$ you can build a fine machine with much better specs than Mac Mini. Those things use an integrated GPU, what do you expect.

@iLoveEatingPie I didn't know macs changed over to intel 5 years ago. I was referring to Motorolla based systems. Regardless, macs TODAY operate much more efficiently than IBM. I bought a $1200 Sony atom last June and it runs pathetically slower than my mac minis. We're talking 10 times slower. And again, comparing a homemade system is unfair.

@SounzNice I already told you, IBM is dead. Now the war is between MAC and PC, while MAC is an OSX based computer and PC is any Windows based computer, so the war is pretty much between the OS software, not the hardware. The hardware is more or less universal. Motorola was kicked out from this a long time ago and seems to be floundering anyways. I don't really see why it's unfair, all the parts are as available to Apple as they are to me, but they choose to use inferior parts instead.

@iLoveEatingPie Where you get your info from? IBM is not dead. By IBM I mean PC. Mac is a pc so I use IBM instead. And I've been talking overall performance, not simply which software is better. But I prefer Windows for various reasons. Again, Macs outperform IBM's. Bottom line.

@SounzNice By dead I don't mean they don't exist anymore, but IBM doesn't make quality computers anymore and their earnings are dropping rapidly because they just can't keep up, so they are in fact dying. You can't compare MAC and PC (or IBM if you insist) overall performance, because there's a limited amount of options with MACs, while you can build any PC you want. For the same price, non-mac computer could reach much higher performance. You're just being stubborn.

@iLoveEatingPie But you originally said dead, but who cares, I used the term to represent the hardware design of computer anyway which - has nothing to do with the company. I know you can't compare MAC and PC because Macs outperform PCs greatly. I've used and made all kinds of PCs and tested them mainly for speed against PCs and there's no comparison. Yeah I'm being stubborn with speaking the truth. For example, the performance difference between Macs and Sony laptops is embarassing ..for sony.

@SounzNice Dude, you must give some kind of argument, you just spit out "MAC is better" without any logical explanation. MACs can't possibly outperform PCs, simply because PC isn't a set stantdart computer, it can be anything from a 133mhz Pentium 1 to the latest i7 powered machine sporting a GTX480 GPU, while MACs are pre-built and only have a few variants. My point is, that for the same price you can build a faster machine than a MAC and I haven't even met anyone who argued with that before.

@SounzNice You sound like some kind of cultist, convinced by some mysterious illogical truth, but don't have valid arguments as proof. I just think your computer knowledge is a bit outdated. All computers use the components from the same pool of hardware nowadays. Mac computer specifications are not a secret, build a PC with superior parts and you have a better computer, it's as easy as that. And if you can afford a Mac, you can easily build a better one with the same amount of money.

You keep claiming that you have valid proof, but I have yet to hear anything worthwhile - "I have run tests and am 100% sure that mac is better than pc" isn't a valid argument: How is building a computer from parts cheating? If anything is cheating, it's buying one of those horribly overpriced pre-built computers fitted with random cheap leftover parts.

@therockmannumber1 Broken and unnecessary consumption of system resources. Windows 7 is what Vista should have been if it wasn't rushed to market. Vista has all kinds of performance issues, even on high-end PC's.

@therockmannumber1 Then you obviously are not familiar with it's issues or are in simple denial. People with extreme game systems lile myself complained of it's problems. From compatibility problems to broken features, Vista has a good number of flaws. All it takes to find them is using the computer for more than just the internet. If you think a new computer will fix them, then you must not do much with it.

@mike7calado17 basically the main reason vista was such a bloated OS was because they litterally commented out xp code and then DIDNT delete these useless lines of code. All they really did with 7 was delete alot of those comments and add a little shit.

Lol Windows 7 and Vista suck ass compared to XP. Vista was just garbage, 7 is still too bloated, the UI is a piece of crap, still security risks, they even put shit like you can't change your background on the Starter Edition. I'm just sticking with Ubuntu.
