Love the soundtrack for this game. MGS1 and 2 were my favorite games in the series. 3 was pretty good, but honestly 4 kind of ruined the plot for me. It was too convoluted and ridiculous even for Kojima's standards. Great music though, MGS1's final boss music made me nostalgia hard.

Chronologically it is (last game in the story) but it isn't the last of the series. Since then Peace Walker has come out, Rising is out hopefully next year and now Kojima has said recently "I think we will eventually have to do an MGS5." Bear in mind, this guy received DEATH THREATS for decisions in the past. If fans want an MGS5, then it will come.

@IRageFox Georgy Sviridov's "Pushkin's Garland" led to the theme being removed from subsequent entries in the series.

Snake is based off the character... well... Snake Plissken. From the mullet, to the unshaven face, to the eyepatch, to the name. In MGS2 they make reference to it by calling snake "iroquois pliskin" and in MGS4 with the M10 able to be made into an exact copy of Snake Plissken's.

Also in that very same film, Lee Van Cleef, is the inspiration for Ocelot

It defined the stealth genre and is in no way able to be compared to Splinter Cell or other Stealth titles...

The Gameplay engaging and satisfying and challenging and these series of games are balanced out with all the aspects that make a good game....

@TheDevineBeing I disagree, Kojima planned on ending the main story ark with 4, so they had immense amounts of exposition were to close any gaps in the story, and as for cutscene/gameplay ratio, MGS4 had at LEAST 3/4 hours of gameplay on a speedrun, that may not sound like much, but Resident evel 4 can be sped through in an hour, to put in in perspective.

To start - there's an old joke, that being there is only one voice to hear in the MG series. That's Kojima's. Every character speaks in the same rhetoric, paved over with uninspired allegory.

Secondly - All major characters/art are either direct ripoffs from hollywood (Snake/Ocelot/Big Boss) or general archetypes of bishonnen (raiden/johnny) ninjas, etc

Lastly - the theme - The series' memorable theme was plagiarism

the game has its flaws. CQC isnt that neccessary on normal difficulty. I didnt even use it in the entire game except for killing vamp...just use the tranq gun and run by them. the rusted can is pointless too. only 2 codec channels and neither of them are really neccessary because otacon is always talking to you anyway and rosemary says nothing of importance. this is coming from somebody who thinks its one of the GOATS of the last 20 years

It's not your time yet. My son... or should I call you brother?" That really was an epic moment, the whole game was epic. It was truly the end of gaming's hardcore era, seeing where we are now (though GOW III and Uncharted 2 also held on).

@hypernova1024 And SMG2 didn't have a shred of the variety MGS4 had and while I know Mario never focused on story, IMO, not attempting some kind of decent story at the very least warrants negative points. In fact, I wasn't big on story before, but Metal Gear as a whole taught me what a great story could do. Although great is a huge understatement when it comes to the overarching story of the whole series.

If I was better at it, I would've enjoyed it more). I mean, sure, the game was short, but it was still fantastic. @hypernova1024 I never played the online and normally don't care for online, but the online in this game looks very fun. Especially the sneaking missions. And using special characters in regular gameplay looks nice as they all have special abilities and/or traits.
