It was appropriate that they married in Nancy, Lorraine, since Otto von Habsburg-Lorraine (Lothringen in German) was the heir to the Lorraine line. He died this very day, July 4th of 2011, at 98 years of age. Nancy is the capital of Lorraine and has a magnificent ducal palace. Long live the Habsburgs, to whom Europe owes so much in the way of freedom from Turkish control in past centuries and for the cultural development they prompted, especially in Vienna.

@sublimeaudio I agree, good friend. I have read of the heroic Nicolas Zrinyi and the many struggles of the Hungarian people against the Ottomans. It was, unfortunately, on my birthday in 1956 that the Soviets invaded Hungary and brutalized the heroic Hungarian people. I offered my services to my commanding officer in the US Army to go fight for Hungary if the US decided to intervene, but they did not. I once had a sailor's belt from the battleship Zrinyi of the KuK Navy, but it is now lost.

the duchy of lorraine had belonged to the male ancestors of otto (who was a habsbourg-lorraine/habsburg-lo­thringen,the habsburg family being extinct in the male line).

at the death of the last medici grand-duke of tuscany,tuscany passed to austria,and lorraine was given to the father in law of king louis xv of france,stanislas leszczynski,the former king of poland,of whom death the duchy passed to france.
