  • What camera were you using in this video? It's amazing quality!

  • What bugs me is that there is only ONE video input.

  • Victory for Gadaffi!!!

  • @lunafringe10 WTF??

  • how did u have vista on your mba and mac on led cinema display

  • To bad HDMI is industry standard.

  • @Sabei0990 professional monitors use displayport and not hdmi

  • @brietzmann most, for now.

  • i just bought the new 2011 15" MBP, but in the comfort of my home studio i would like the luxury of a larger display, wish i could get the apple display because its the mac daddy of all displays with its superior resolution, but might go w/ a samsung for cost purposes.

  • OK, you buy a mac and then put windows on it. I could understand the need to have it on to use some programs and such, but vista? Really?!?! Vista is by far the worst windows OS yet!! Trust me I tried using it and nothing worked, it was slow as hell and crashed on me at least 2 times a day! I understand windows 7 didn't really come out when this video was up!! There was XP which was Far better!! So the point of having windows vista on a mac is.....?

  • @StephenRM100 your pc must have been shit then! I've been using vista for 2 years now and i can't remember it crashing once!

  • why you bought a macbook pro and you use windows vista on it?

  • @5ImPulse vista is just terrible

  • hey can you please! help i have the same display and i use it with a wireless keyboard and mouse but i don't wanna have the charger plugged in at all times how can i get around this i don't want to harm my macbook by keeping the charger plugged in thank you.

  • What's it like using the cinema display with the laptop without a external keyboard

With a mirror image the screen is not to good when the laptops lid is open

  • do you have to have the macbook open? what if i have a separate keyboard and mouse and close the macbook? i get distracted with two screens at once. hurts my eyes lol

  • I am Dual Screening this with an iMac 27 And I'm LOVING IT! it's worth the 900 bucks... but the glare.. it's annoying...

  • Could i just use it for daily use and stuff, or do i need another computer to plug it in with it?

  • their a way to use it as a tv?

  • cheap chinese junk, designed to break down.

  • @MoltenMozzarella sounds like you!

  • nooooo you infected your macbook pro with the aids of computers aka windows

  • you can only plug it with macbooks? what about the PC type of mac (forgot the name)?

  • MBP + CinemaDisplay? I wish it will be mine...

  • the display's soooo bright i LOVE It !!! Thanks for sharing !

  • i dont see any point in buying a cinema display for a macbook (pro). So i m gonna get the 27" imac and i dont have to bother with all the cables, The CD cant do anything by itself. So if someone doesnt have a macbook (pro) he ll have to buy one and the CD also,

  • Since when is the apple mini display port an industry standard?...it's an apple standard.

  • @tigeroaring ok he means apple industry standard

  • @tigeroaring

It's not an Apple standard but Apple was one of the first to adopt the new technology. The first monitor to support DisplayPort was actually from Dell and you can find many graphics cards and monitors with DisplayPort these days.

  • apple makes beautiful fucking products

  • i hope the future iMac would have the same look of the cinema display which is all black rim, simple, clean and tidy look. Since i really don't like the too big black apple logo and the too bold aluminum bar of the iMac :(

  • I want to get it soooooo much!!! Mabey in a year or so when I get the money!!!

  • this monitor is such a rip-off $1000 and over WTF i could buy a HP 25 inch monitor 5ms 1000:1 ratio Build in Webcam Speakers Usb Hub Memory Card reader and there's liek a light at the bottom 5 or 3ms model i think is 2558hc yeh it has HDMI VGA and DVI inputs rather buy that then buying this crap

  • @holdencommstra And those of us who need proper monitors with accurate colours will buy an apple cinema display because its the only LED backlit, IPS screen on the market which is under £1000 or so.

Dell and HP both do high end IPS screens, but not LED lit so the white level will drift and the backlighting wont be even. Also Dell are a major lottery for decent screens.

Enjoy your nice big, cheap, bright screen though! Just dont try to make it do professional work.

  • @digitised

Hp does Make LED Display's but it's Buniness monitors around same price as apples

  • @holdencommstra Which is exactly my point!

In order to match apple, you have to charge the same, so they arent overpriced.

They are infact competitive screens when compared to other high end manufacturers. There is no comparison between cheap TN and Apples cinema displays, its all a numbers game when you ignore the fundamental technology gap between them.

  • what's your secret to clear skin?

  • what is the round black thing on your cinema display stand?

  • and imac

  • Best display out there.

  • Do you know if it's possible to connect TWO of these LED Cinema Displays to a new Mac mini?

  • On your video it seems that the Apple Led Cinema Display is set as primary monitor even if your Mac Book is open.....HOW ????please tell me how to do that i'm getting crazy trying.

    Thanks

  • not real (O)LED but lcd with LED backlight. newest scam they came up with.

  • I love this display but it's so dang overpriced! You can get a full iMac for $350 more.

  • one thing i actually dont get about this display is why apple put the mic on top. that way it doesnt point at the person talking into it, unlike the imacs. btw awesome review.

  • dont bother with this monitor, its overpriced for what it offers... go get a samsung or dell lcd, much better specs for less money

  • @Krisspychiken this monitor is led, you guys keep forgetting that.

  • does the Led Cinema Display have a Hardrive like a imac or is it only used with the macbook and ect?

  • @ocen89 its only a screen, it uses the hard drive from the mac it is connected to or the server/network hard drive

  • @ocen89 oh and you can hook up an external hard drive to back of the screen via usb

  • great review.. can i use it to my pc? how much does it cost a simillar size 2 yours.. thanx

  • is there anyway to connect a ps3 through an hdmi cable to this

  • nope

  • where do u connect to the screen with the 3 head cord?

as i can only see 3 usb head on the screen...

  • can you use it with a mini

  • @HypaKaii yep

  • @EDP407

    yes

  • yeah

  • just wanna kno if u had the cinima display hooked up 2 the mac book how cum the mac book had vista runnin but the display had osx running??????

  • Bootcamp. Let's you have 2 operating systems on one computer.

  • @lolxcat95

it's called a virtual environment...google parallels or fusion...you can run one OS on another and ad work I run windows on my big screen and OSX on the laptop...

  • how do u hook this up to mac pro?

  • @owngunz Get a new video card with a mini displayport output.

  • @owngunz Or you could also just buy an adapter... Just like he said in the first 40 sec of the video.

  • Good for you. Really nice monitor, but soooo expensive £649.00 in the UK. But again packed with features. If any Mac fans have the money, go for it. :)

  • Liking the glare man...

  • I wish this was cheaper, I love this display it looks so sleek, but again the price is too much.

  • @Out0fOrder

I agree, the price is reasonable, but I also "wish" it was cheaper.

  • As much as I like this display it is way overpriced.. you could get a 24" LED monitor for about $350-$400

  • Agreed. I rather pay 850 for a 40inch LCD and use that as a monitor

  • @Btownsoccer22 not if your a designer, believe me for true colours this thing owns.

  • You can get a piece of junk for that much.

  • Comment removed

  • No way, I got a ASUS MS238H 23" Led monitor, and its awesome.. only cost me $256 after taxes.. I had it hooked up side by side with my 24" BenQ Lcd monitor, and it makes the lcd monitor look like crap, the Asus has 10,000,000:1 Dynamic contrast ratio, 2MS, it uses the same TFT Panel just like Apple's display's do.. except this has a faster refresh rate, and a resolution of 1920X1080 (1080P monitor) also comes with HDMI/DVI/VGA Ports

  • Comment removed

  • @lakshmere

Actually the monitor I have according to specs its a TFT panel..

  • @Yamcha67

TFT just means it's an LCD. The actual panel on your Asus is a cheap TN type panel. The IPS panel used on the Apple display is far, far superior and far more expensive.

  • @lakshmere

Your just brainwashed apple fan.. I'm a PC enthusiast .. The Asus Display I have is awesome in comparison to traditional LCD monitors, I haven't had the opportunity to put it side by side to a Cinema Display but eager to see the differences.. Just because its more expensive doesn't make it better..

  • Your an idiot. Asus makes el cheapo TN panels that are not even close to this display. Dumbass kid.

  • @Yamcha67

yes but in this case it does...some don't like the gloss but nothing compares to these monitors.

I work with MS all day and linux for web development and bitch all you want about apple fan's but the products are superior in most ways...just at twice the price.

  • @Yamcha67

Not an IPS display! TN panels are much cheaper but have a worse quality.

  • Yeah, but its mainly better viewing angels as far as I know.. and you could still get cheaper non Apple branded IPS monitors..

  • @Yamcha67

Like all Apple products, it is overpriced and meant for people who prefer simplicity and style over function of any sort.

  • @Yamcha67 dude its an ips display... its alot better quality then your average cheap TN Monitors.

  • @mild546 i'm quite sure that a 22'' LEDscreen of 1920 x 1080 pixels is the same quality as that apple screen (i'm quite an apple fanboy, don't get me wrong)..this is just bull i think.

  • @Yamcha67 ya, but how many of those $350-$400 24" LED monitor's also include a nice webcam, microphone, 2.1 speakers, and a powered 3-port USB hub? Not to mention that Apple's LED displays are unmatched in video quality...and they last a LONG time! (I'm still using the original cinema display!!) For $800, ya..a little pricey...but worth every penny :)

  • @robertgenito you're stupud and know nothing of what really good displays are made of

  • @Yamcha67 You cant get a TFT IPS display with speakers, a microphone, and a camera/video recorded for $400.

  • @Jkaimakides lol the crap camera on the top, a speaker with no bass, and a crappy mic is not worth 600 dollars. you can get a good 24in monitor, a good mic and good speakers for only 600. not to mention you could get a macbook for that amount of money lol.

  • @cprrowberry You can't get a high quality iSight camera, a speaker with considerable bass, and a high quality mic with a TFT IPS display all in one for $600, I think you're kidding yourself. A macbook does not cost $600.

  • @Jkaimakides hmmm..."fanboy" is really all i can say to that comment. and i meant you could get a macbook for $999 instead of a cinema display. not to mention the average consumer doenst need a "TFT IPS" display in the first place. just try not to justify spending that much on a 24in monitor. and i wont even bother to show you the monitors you can get for a fraction of that amount of money.

  • @Yamcha67 except they don't even come close to to the build quality and display quality, nice try.

  • @Yamcha67 Not an LED monitor with an IPS panel. It's pretty rare to be both, which this one is. Not to mention the speakers, webcam, mic, great build quality, and the convenience of laptop charging. It's pricey, but it's one of a kind.

  • Is it possible to get an extension lead for the 3m cable?

  • I think... I think... WTF

  • so you can use this for your MacBook Pro?

can you close your MacBook Pro and it be in sleep or standby and the LED screen run it?

  • Windows on Macbook Pro?!OMG...O_O

  • bootcamp -.-

  • Hope you don't mind me saying, but you are really cute!

  • i dont know much about comp. and i want to ask, what is a "bit"?

  • I just got my 24 LED Cinema Apple Display today and I love it!

  • I am between this monitor and a Samsung, but many factors are involved. Accepting the price and the resolution, what is your take on it? (not with use with a MacBook or laptop). Thank you

  • @AppleGenius0921 You can only use the display with a Macbook/Pro, there are no minidisplayport to dvi or vga adapters yet.

  • yes they are

  • Your Cute :D

  • I'd like to see the design and build quality of your monitor

  • i would consider my samsung xl2370 to be quite fantastic, in terms of design and build quality i would say 9/10, don't get me wrong i like apple and work at a apple store in nyc, but from a consumer's perspective view $850(employee discount :D) is alot when other monitors like my samsung XL2370 or the new Acer LED would make do

  • @mitch625 mine costs around 150 and it has a 80000:1 contrast ratio, 5ms and ovcourse full hd. it dosent have hdmi which is a bit of a shame as my pc supports it but it dosent have built in speakers which makes hdmi a bit pointless. i use a very good sound system anyway. the point here is that your not looking at the market simply looking at apple. its a problem that apple users have. they dont understand the idea of comparison

  • @mitch625 calm down apple build quality isn't so good as you think....

and what about the design, i won't talk about that. Everybody chooses the design they like

  • @ForgeOracle: Stop looking at your dynamic contrast ratio, it is a useless specification. Also, what kind of panel does yours utilize? Finally, I agree with mitch625. The build quality and design is unmatched. Images and video look ridiculously good on this thing and it has an aspect ratio of 16:10 instead of that god awful 16:9 where you lose those 120 vertical pixels. Take it from somebody who actually owns this monitor and uses it everyday.

  • @FallenxriseN Well im sorry you spent too much on cheap, slow hardware in a fancy box.

  • @ForgeOracle

    1) Well I actually only paid $600 Canadian on it if you would REALLY like to know. 2) Slow hardware? If you're referring to the response time then you really don't know anything about computer monitors. Since it uses an IPS panel response time is going to be slow.... 3) This product is not aimed at the gaming audience. That's why you have a TV.

  • @FallenxriseN So your admitting to it haveing a slow responsetime. looks like IPS is a downside to me. you must love the ghosting on your mouse, trailing around like a duck in water.

  • @ForgeOracle

Yes, because it does have a slowER response time. Not as slow as you seem to think unless 10 milliseconds is as valuable to you as 10 hours. Hahahaha the fact that it uses an IPS panel is a downside? What a joke. This is a computer monitor remember.

  • @mitch625 so all you have to say thats good about this is the build qaulity! lol, i dont suppose ill be carrying my screen around much, and yeah its fantastic build qaulity. lol

  • @mitch625 Build quality does not come into factor for monitors because they sit on your desk and (most people) do not bring there monitors with them where ever they go, therefor this is a complete waste of money.

  • @mitch625 Samsung has some awesome monitors...with much better specs and great design and build quality.

  • It's more expensive because it's an IPS screen, which are inherently more expensive to produce. They have 8 bit + colour and the response times are irrelevant to most people using macs, as generally speaking, there are fewer gamers using that platform. Your 24" will be a TN panel, which can only display 6 bit colour. They have faster response times as a result and are much cheaper to make. I'd also doubt that your display is LED backlit. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages.

  • @Benjomatic The Apple display just happens to look really sexy :-D

  • led is better than your fucking lcd !! your a hater and this thing has 20% more color gamit than your fucktard lcd

  • My lcd is also 250% cheaper, has a 2ms response time, not a 14ms! and has HDMI, DVI and VGA, which makes it compatible with BlueRay players, PS3s and XBOX 360s. So FUCK your fucktard overpriced display.

  • I know.... I wish i could have a led display too!!!

  • why

  • Oh and it has a 40000:1 contrast ration not a shitty 1000:1

  • Ok then, explain the benefits of a 40000:1 contrast ratio without googling.

  • @piperboy350 Talking like that makes YOU look like a fucktard sir.

  • @ForgeOracle The specs aren't everything. Actually Apple Cinema Display's quality looks often much much better then screens with higher specs.

  • @ForgeOracle my Samsung Syncmaster XL2370 , 5 000 000 :1 contrast ratio , 2 ms

  • @ForgeOracle someones jealous they cant get these

  • @tenkeychy ? no im not, i got a better display, with the change to buy a gemeing pc and an xbox 360, this dont even have HDMI. and what wud a game look like with a 14ms response time! THATS THE SHITTEST PICE OF SHIT EVER HOW THE FUCK DO THEY MAKE A SCERRN WITH A 14MS RESPONSE TIME!!!!!! AND THEN MAKE EVERYTHING ELSE BESIDES THE CACE SHITTY SPECS!?!?!? its CHEAP hardware an a fancy box.

  • @ForgeOracle you're comparing dynamic contrast with typical contrast. Classic marketing trick. The Cinema display has amazing contrast and uses an IPS panel which most monitors don't. IPS + LED backlit monitors are very rare, and this is one of them. Add to that the convenience of having it charge your laptop, provide sound, a camera, and extra usb ports via only a couple wires to your laptop, and you've got an hugely powerful and convenient display. I think it's worth it.

  • @ForgeOracle When talking about displays, the contrast ratio and response time doesnt tell anything about the real quality of the display. Like the megapixels on the camera doesnt tell how great pictures you can take with it. You would know this if youd know even the simplest thing about displays. Of course you can get a 2 to 4 ms display for a 99 bucks from your local supermarket but do you really think it can really outperform a LED Display or even on 2.5k US Eizo with also 14ms. Think!

  • @jarvvill Its futile trying to get people to realise that apple screens are good value, most arent even aware of basic screen technology.

They dont understand what polarised screens are, what IPS stands for, what Adobe RGB is.

They think cheap TN panels with fast response times, high resolutions and low prices are the S**T. Apple charge a fraction of what NEC and Eizo ask for, i dont see the hate on those brands anywhere here? Maybe they havent heard of anyone other than Dell, HP and samsung.

  • @ForgeOracle Also 40000:1 contrast ratio is most likley Dynamic which is used to make it sound better the 1000:1 is static and is really showing the specs

  • @ForgeOracle you obviously do not know anything about monitors. your a monitor is a crappy TN panel. TN panel had fast response times and cheap price, but color quality, viewing range, and everything else suffers.

This monitor is an ips panel, which is exactly opposite of everything I just told you.

Also you are comparing dynamic contrast ratio to static.

  • Its fuckin beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

  • can u use windows on the mbp and os x on the cinema display?

  • yes u can use VmWare Fuzion and u get both on one os

  • Yes, or vice versa

  • Will LED Cinema Display work dual monitor with my windows laptop? Its a HP Pavilion dv6. Please reply

  • if you have a adapter to mini-display

  • It won't. There's currently no adaptor available.

  • dual? As in as a second montior? If so - yes...

  • To contradict myself.. You can now. Assuming you have a DVI-D out on your laptop. A company called Atlona make an adaptor call the AT 200-DP it converts dvi to mini displayport. It's 179 pounds/dollars so not exactly cheap.

  • any idea if you're able to use a higher res. on the display? im thinkin about getting one as i don't favour the 13" macbook res. when plugged into my t.v

  • Use high res? What the hell are you talking about...

    It IS HIGH RES..

  • i meant increase the resolution smart ass

  • its a damn shame apple didnt make a converter from mini display port to DVI, they just lost my $800.

  • yes they do.. look it up, its a short wire

  • apple makes a mini display to dvi look it up at the apple store online

  • Buy an adapter - problem fixed

  • Theres an adapeter that lets the new macbook pro connect to an older model, but there is no model from DVI to cinema display port so you can use it with older macs

  • hold on a minute.......... what is the whole point in this display? its not much more bigger than the actual laptop screen itself! A pointless device in my opinion. What it really needs is to be compatible with the apple tv then it would be awesome. I really dont see why you would spend nearly $1000 on a bigger screen display a few centimeters from your laptop screen

  • try 9 inches, higher resolution which is good for video editing as you have a larger real estate.

    Mac Book pRO 15 inch

    Cinema Display 24inch

  • Its 24 inches. Its not a few centimeters bigger. its 9 inchs bigger.

  • Hey when u click on something ur mouse makes a ripple efect how do u do that?

  • he used a screen recording app

  • nice review. thanks.

  • can you hook these displays with Apple G5's ???

    plz help thanks

  • Comment removed

  • yes they do retard

  • Comment removed

  • No.

  • and the mini. and the imac. info is easily available on apple's site. check that before posting incomplete/ disinformation. thanks.

  • And late 2008 Macbooks as well as multiple desktops. Please don't talk shit. Thanks.

  • did u dual boot and have Vista on ur Macbook Sceen and Mac OSX on the Apple...thats awesome

  • Why does everything apple makes have to be glossy? They have literally 2 products that aren't glossy and they are the most expensive products.

  • Because glossy is good!

  • Actually, they don't use 'glossy' products for the gloss, it's because glass allows for better colour saturation than matte screens. It's also highly recyclable, of course.
