  • i have always been told to start with short quick strides and then make longer and longer strides with the same pace?

  • @BTB96Hobitz That's a legit idea as well. The important thing is force production in the early steps. Most athletes we deal with under-stride in the early strides, so this is a good way to cure that. We'll have other vids coming that show how to use the technique you're describing as well.

    Thanks for a great comment!

  • thnaks coach..im hopin this helps me for the NUC coming up

  • I hear you man, I just notice lots of BS online everyone is Mr Speed Coach when I know that very few actually have ever taken a real sprint or two themselves. So hey I might be wrong but I'd like to see that 4.5

  • @MicahLeviClark Something else funny. In the video we shot for this piece, he ran something like a 5.2, so you had it right on...we had to cue him to start poorly. One of our guys, a RB/LB from our local football powerhouse, just put up a 4.45 on turf, but he's a bit of a freak! We're more interested in long-term athletic development than the "4 week 40" crap. Keep at it and coach well!

    Cheers!

  • The guy in the video runs a nice 5-flat I bet lol

  • @MicahLeviClark Funny...really...kid went to the NUC and blew up a 4.5 on turf. I've seen your comments elsewhere...if you really want to be apart of the sports performance community, you might want to learn to be positive and pro-active. I realize that takes more energy than being a smartass, but you should give it a try.

Cheers and good luck to you!

  • thats true, the first stride is huge for a good time.

  • You're right. That's the point of the video.

Even with a poor first step position, simply changing the target of the first step brings down the overall time.

Asking the athlete to increase first step stride length results in a more explosive start, regardless of start position.

You are the first person to notice that and comment on it. Way to go!
