5 minutes and 5 seconds of my life that I will never get back. What a serious waste of time. And if they DID rip off NR, what in the heck are you going to do about it? Bitching about things you cannot control is just bitching, ergo, being a bitch.
HEY what about This same song ripping off its drum intro from 1 000 000 from nine inch nails, nine inch nails just ads a crash to the song. Or the drum line from Give me Novacaine from Marilyn Mansons "The Love Song", THOSE are bigger rip offs than this, and i hardly call them rip offs
sweet. The old Lucky Gator loft. how dare you have a clip from there in this video along side you being a complete knob. that is an act punishable by death in some parts of the world. blaspheming on holy ground.
It's not a ripoff at all. Also there are many other songs which actually sound identical to the oh wey oh wey of the Green Day song. Why you picked a less similar Naked Raygun chant is beyond me.
Really...Do you even know what your talking about, I think you need to reevaluate here. The stupidity and ignorance in this is mind blowing. And by the way Green Day is not a Punk Band...
Not even close. If you want to call out Green Day on ripping off riffs, "When I come around" is just a slowed down guitar line from the Misfits' "Skulls".
I love Naked Raygun (saw them with another awesome Chicago band, The Effigees, many moons ago), but this is kind of reaching, dont'cha think?? "Wey Oh" is a chant that originally was used in Reggae songs and even The Bangles used their own version, "Wey Oh, Wey oh...." in "Walk Like An Egyptian." Maybe Naked Raygun ripped THEM off..............
screw your law horseshit! its punk rock your law doesnt apply in here...and clearly the people behind this video are assholes...so what if oh wey oh wey and wey oh wey oh were use by another punk bands as long as it doesnt have the same melody of the same arrangement or the same song...its all ok!...stupid people...you really are idiots are you? haha...
Green Day sucks. I could care less about them but I'd amount this to homage or coinsidence. Honestly, I can't imagine Billy Joe and Co. sitting around and plotting to rip off Naked Raygun. Green Day came from the hipster Gilman scene...I'd bet there's a chance they didn't listen to NR.
GreenDay performed at Lollapalooza 2010 in Chicago and Billie Joe paid homage to Naked Raygun, the Effigies and the influence that the Chicago punk sound had on GreenDay's musak
Thanks, thegothiclily for the video. It was great being a teenager in Chicago of the 1980's. People, Greenday is really not "punk rock." Look back at the roots of American punk and you'll see. Go on Youtube and type in names like Naked Raygun, Circle Jerks, Effigies, Rights of the Accused and many more. Punk isn't guys wearing eyeliner and spiking up their hair, It is a way of thinking. Listen to the lyrics of these 1980's bands. They spoke to my generation (and still do) and speak to your's.
Fuck green day, I don't think they really stole this but I hate those fuckers anyway. Seriously, Green Day is corporate shit, Naked Raygun on the other hand, are legends.
This is so dumb , They are just the same words, they are not even sung the same in Both songs. The Ramones Got The opening for Blitzkrieg Bop from The Bay City Rollers . This is just stupid . No one STOLE anything & it is very Likely Greenday Never heard this Naked Raygun song
It doesn't make sense that a highly commercial, shitty, pop-punk band would rip off a band that never attempted to attain mainstream success. I doubt that the members of green day have even heard of naked raygun, let alone deliberately ripped them off. Furthermore the chanting of gibberish words is in different groupings. Minor similarity, sure; rip-off, absolutely not.
Yeah, this iis not so much an example of Green Day plagiarism, but someones thinly veiled (and weakly executied) promo tool for the 'Oh Yeah Come On' video clip.
Comparing Green Day's "Know Your Enemy" to Naked Raygun's "New Dreams" is like comparing vanilla and chocolate.. Bland, corporate, decadent vanilla and delcious, satisfying, enticing chocolate..
I hardly see this as ripping off. Now if they took every word and changed the music. just cuz you use one line from another song doesn't mean youre stealing. i mean really come on
I really hope this video is intended to be taken with toungue firmly in cheek or at least is a poorly executed attempt at sarcasm, because if not, I want the last 5 min and 5 secs of my life back. Santiago Durango is a lawyer in Chicago now, isn't he? If he has a problem with the stolen chants, maybe he can figure out how to deal with it!
the video is an advertisement for Toothpaste...so yes it is satire...since rap music samples are copyrighted, I'm pushing the legal issue with punk chants
Did you ever consider that maybe Green Day's version is a tribute to Naked Raygun? As commercial as Green Day's music is, I still believe Billy Joe is a fan of punk rock, so it's not unrealistic for him to make a tribute.
I love naked raygun..and think green day sucks...but your really grasping at straws here.Naked Raygun took the "ooooooosss" from the misfits. If it weren't for plagiarism 99% of all rock bands wouldn't exist.
Agreed... I too love Naked Raygun much more than Green day but this is just pathetic, not even shamefull, so Green Day might have listened to great punk bands and absorbed their influence, what a shock!.... You could do this with ALL music to the point of absurdity.... What do you want ,money, is that your god now? I'm disapointed if NR endorse or even give a flying fuck about this..... Your doing nothing for Naked Raygun here......
lmfao that video at the end was the worst thing ive ever heard in my life.
however i thought the lyrics were very moving and meaningful.
i like punk music, but that was fucking shit.
oh and as for the green day 'rip off'
please get over yourself. im sure the band, naked raygun, dont give a shit if green day said two words that another band said one time. NR are shit anyway.
Also it would help hear the chant if you didn't say who the band was before the chant was sung. We know it's NR, we saw the sticker! We know it's GD, we saw their pic before the chant part. Just a suggestion ; )
Gotta say you're really reaching on this one. And I've been a fan of NR since '85! So I really wanted to lmao off about Green Day ripping off my fave band from the 80's. Well, them and The Cramps.
I might be more concerned with the fact that they rephrase a PIL lyric, "Anger is an energy" with "Violence is an energy"! Oh shit, this whole Green Day song is ripped off from something else!
OMGWTFBBQ THEY NEED TO DO SO... oh wait, no... I don't really care at all.
I can't believe you made a FIVE minute video of this. I really hope this is just a troll video for responses because if it's not... you care way too much about trivial bullshit. Besides, Santiago Durango is a lawyer now. I'm sure if or the other band members gave two shits about this, they'd file infringement themselves. I want my five minutes back.
I've heard of, listened to, and went to a live Naked Raygun show before I even knew about Green Day. With that being said, Green Day isn't even close to violating any copyright infringement, in my opinion. and for those who haven't heard of Naked Raygun, get their album, "Understand", and you'll hear how fuckin' great this band is/was. Too bad they didn't make the big time, as too many shitty bands (Bon Jovi) did.
green day has been using this chant for years, to say one band stole from another is horrible, a chant cannot be copyright since its only 2 lines. And who the fuck has ever heard of naked raygun? i sure havent, nor do i even give a fuck, this is why green day is on the top of the charts and no one has heard of naked raygun
wow who gives a fuck. (of course I do because I clicked here right yeah whatever stfu) it doesn't even sound like it that much. like barely. this is dumb.
You know, I must say that Green Day may have Ripped them off, But Why does it matter? Doesn't the constitution Guarantee Freedom of Speech? And One line in a song Cannot be copyrighted. I could understand this if they took All the lyrics but the words "Oh" and "Wey" don't infringe on anything. Im not A Big Green Day fan but I Still think this whole fussing over two words is Rubbish.
Wow, I always thought it was the Weh Ohs from Walk Like An Egyptian that were being ripped off by Green Day, Now I see the true light. BRAVO, NAKED RAYGUN for revealing the true thieves that are Green Day!
god your stupid! who cares bout what youre sayin? green day writes a good song and youre gonna say that they COPYRIGHTED it??!! wtf?!? NR says 'oh wey oh wey oh wey' GD says 'oh ay oh ay' 2 COMPLETELY different ways of saying it. just cause you think its copyrighted doenst mean it is dumbass
The chant comes from the song "New Dreams" which NR released on three copyrighted albums...I don't mind the haters...punk rock is all about attitude and expressing anger.
wow. this video is really really stuipid. they didnt copy them. if they said the same exact thing then maybe they did copy them. they dont even sound too much alike!!! Did the naked raygun invent the words Oh wey Oh wey...NO THEY DIDNT!! therefore its not copyrighted!
ok first of all, you can't fucking copyright noises like "oh weh". and second, its not even the same tempo, or notes. If every band tried to copyright every single group of three words together (especially nonsense words) the entire music industry would be boned because nobody could do anything without going through the lists of patents or whatever to see if their song is in violation.
this is pretty much just a jealous bunch of people trying to cast Green Day in a bad light... how original.
Green Day has been touring on the punk scene for 20 years. Naked Raygun has been around since 1979. NR copyrighted the 'oh wey oh - wey oh wey' on three albums. It is their signature chant. The entire audience sings along at their live shows. The GD 'oh wey oh wey' is a derivative of the copyright NR chant.
First of all before I even saw this video I had never even heard of Naked Raygun, so what makes you Green Day has? Second, the two chants don't even sound all that alike anyway. Third, even if they did sound alike, they are only 4 words and I don't think Naked Raygun has oh wey oh wey copyrighted.
This video is stupid. Just because you're into punk/in a punk band does NOT mean you've heard Naked Raygun. Them releasing it on three different formats doesn't mean shit either. If you haven't heard of the band you have no idea they released it period..
Santiago Durango, the Naked Raygun songwriter, first got the idea for the chant as a small boy when his family moved from his native Columbia to Chicago. Santiago lived in a Jewish neighborhood where he kept hearing the phrase "oy vey, oy vey" which means "woe". His english not being too good, young Santiago heard it as "oh wey oh wey".
first of all, shut the fuck up i don't care, second of all, how do you know that, thirdly don't fucking preach to me, fourth you should probably put that in your god dam video and lastly shut the fuck up and stop trying to preach to me, they aren't even close, listen to them mike dirnt goes O A, O A, and your bitch goes O A O, A O A, not even close but thanks for trying to be an ass hole and sue green day so your shit band can get some publicity
My old band used to rip off other bands alot We used to say "AHHH!" we also used the words "fuck you" "sucks" "stab in the back" (WHICH IS REALLY CLOSE TO THE DAMNED!) I also sang about drugs. NOT TO MENTION WE COVERED SONGS! HOW MUCH DO WE OWE YOU?
Ripping off bands is extremely common in punk rock. Imitation is the most sincere form of flaterry. Sometimes you may not even realize it. Listen to something enough and it can get into your lexicon of words. (Did I just rip off the germs?)
Normally I don't reply to dumb shit on the internet. And actually I decided to watch this youtube video. why? Because your a dumb piece of shit who had to pollute everybody's fucking comments on myspace.
They didn't steal shit, it looks nothing alike. People like you are the reason, people like me sometimes look down upon old chicago punk rock, there were some great bands, but a bunch of stupid scenester snobs like yourself graduated from it now all you do is to find dumb shit to whine about.
And also all this was, was some sad attempt to promote the shitty band toothpaste. I go to alot of shows at the loft but I actually avoided that show because I thought toothepaste sucked! What a great way to make shitty band look like shit!
And I don't blame green day for not hearing those naked raygun songs! Naked raygun sucks! Fuck I went to riot fest and left so I don't have to hear that garbage
In the recent documentary on NR, Jeff Pezzati describes his band as "The second greatest 'oh wey oh' band of all time, the first being the Misfits". So apparently he doesn't think recontextualizing two syllables constitutes theft.
You are incorrect...Jeff P said the Misfits and NR came up with the "woah woah" chants independently. Santiago Durango wrote the distinctly different chant "oh wey oh weh" for the song "New Dreams". The Green Day chant is a derivative of the copyright NR chant.
this is so stupid. "oh wey oh wey"??? are you retarded, who gives a fuck? thanks for wasting 45 secs of my life. that's all i watched, cause this is retarded. and then thanks for wasting another 30 seconds to post this comment to tell you how fuckin' dumb you are.
Why the fuck would anyone waste their time on this? They are a punk rock band so STFU.....and they know their roots and sometimes do tribute stuff. So what....that's fuckin punk. Things are gonna sound similar.
Lol. Ummmm... Green Day is not a punk rock band. They know their roots because the imitate them. All the time. BJ Armstrong is not british, and yet, he tries to sound like it.
And NOTHING Green Day does... now... or ever... will ever be considered 'punk'. Not leats of all 'fuckin punk'.
US Copyright law is quite explicit that the making of "derivative works" -- works based or derived from another copyrighted work -- is the exclusive province of the owner of the original work.
Lol. I cannot understand why SO many people do that. I figured that fancy new cell phone commercial that those jackasses star in... would've made that message kind of clear. ;P
It's clear and deliberate act of copyright infringement by the punk group Green Day of the song" New Dreams" by Naked Raygun. This is soooooooooooo wroooooooooong!!!!!!!!!!!

the similarities are slight. but i think the salient point is that green day are unoriginal hacks these days and naked raygun are pretty awesome.

Let us not forget Greenday wripped off Doublewhiskeycokenoice in American Idiot which is a little bit more obvious and a lot more infuriating.

god your stupid! who cares bout what youre sayin? green day writes a good song and youre gonna say that they COPYRIGHTED it??!! wtf?!? NR says 'oh wey oh wey oh wey' GD says 'oh ay oh ay' 2 COMPLETELY different ways of saying it. just cause you think its copyrighted doenst mean it is dumbass

so stupid
MyRoflCopt3r 2 years ago
idk if im the only to say this or not but who gives a FUCK!!!
suxuptobro 2 years ago
this is such a joke lol
RunningP123456 2 years ago
the GD chant "oh wey oh wey" is a derivative of the copyright NR chant "oh wey oh, wey oh wey".
thegothiclily 2 years ago
The chant comes from the song "New Dreams" which NR released on three copyrighted albums...I don't mind the haters...punk rock is all about attitude and expressing anger.

you are an idiot

ok what the fuck? the two chants don't even sound ALIKE.
smallboyonherbike2 2 years ago
ur fucken stupid tgreen day is better ur just a hater
afrafrslipknotlover 2 years ago
ok first of all, you can't fucking copyright noises like "oh weh". and second, its not even the same tempo, or notes. If every band tried to copyright every single group of three words together (especially nonsense words) the entire music industry would be boned because nobody could do anything without going through the lists of patents or whatever to see if their song is in violation.
this is pretty much just a jealous bunch of people trying to cast Green Day in a bad light... how original.
thechangingonthewind 2 years ago 2
Green Day has been touring on the punk scene for 20 years. Naked Raygun has been around since 1979. NR copyrighted the 'oh wey oh - wey oh wey' on three albums. It is their signature chant. The entire audience sings along at their live shows. The GD 'oh wey oh wey' is a derivative of the copyright NR chant.
thegothiclily 2 years ago
Naked Raygun is an incredible punk band, calling Green Day a punk band is sort of infuriating though. Shit's not punk.
punkmusical 2 years ago
First of all before I even saw this video I had never even heard of Naked Raygun, so what makes you Green Day has? Second, the two chants don't even sound all that alike anyway. Third, even if they did sound alike, they are only 4 words and I don't think Naked Raygun has oh wey oh wey copyrighted.
PFlyers 2 years ago 2
This video is stupid. Just because you're into punk/in a punk band does NOT mean you've heard Naked Raygun. Them releasing it on three different formats doesn't mean shit either. If you haven't heard of the band you have no idea they released it period..
punkmusical 2 years ago 4
I agree 100%.
PFlyers 2 years ago
That is downright retarded, OH NO 4 WORDS ARE THE SAME
Doesn't even sound alike
Also, both are horrible anyway
Cosm01 2 years ago 3
Santiago Durango, the Naked Raygun songwriter, first got the idea for the chant as a small boy when his family moved from his native Columbia to Chicago. Santiago lived in a Jewish neighborhood where he kept hearing the phrase "oy vey, oy vey" which means "woe". His english not being too good, young Santiago heard it as "oh wey oh wey".
thegothiclily 2 years ago
first of all, shut the fuck up i don't care, second of all, how do you know that, thirdly don't fucking preach to me, fourth you should probably put that in your god dam video and lastly shut the fuck up and stop trying to preach to me, they aren't even close, listen to them mike dirnt goes O A, O A, and your bitch goes O A O, A O A, not even close but thanks for trying to be an ass hole and sue green day so your shit band can get some publicity
Crallara44 2 years ago 3
They aren't even close, are you kidding me??? Whoever made this video was probably in Naked Raygun and is looking for some shitty claim to fame.
Crallara44 2 years ago

People like you are the reason, people like me sometimes look down upon old chicago punk rock, there were some great bands, but a bunch of stupid scenester snobs like yourself graduated from it now all you do is to find dumb shit to whine about.
yourbestfiend 2 years ago
And also all this was, was some sad attempt to promote the shitty band toothpaste. I go to alot of shows at the loft but I actually avoided that show because I thought toothepaste sucked! What a great way to make shitty band look like shit!
And I don't blame green day for not hearing those naked raygun songs! Naked raygun sucks! Fuck I went to riot fest and left so I don't have to hear that garbage
yourbestfiend 2 years ago
this video is a wast of my fuckin time.. who gives a shit . .it sounds nothing alike.. who ever made this should eat a million shitty dicks !!!!!!!
REGGAE7777 2 years ago
In the recent documentary on NR, Jeff Pezzati describes his band as "The second greatest 'oh wey oh' band of all time, the first being the Misfits". So apparently he doesn't think recontextualizing two syllables constitutes theft.
joshhudson1971 2 years ago
You are incorrect...Jeff P said the Misfits and NR came up with the "woah woah" chants independently. Santiago Durango wrote the distinctly different chant "oh wey oh weh" for the song "New Dreams". The Green Day chant is a derivative of the copyright NR chant.
thegothiclily 2 years ago
PIL said "anger is an energy", too...
cynderellathetica 2 years ago
this is so stupid. "oh wey oh wey"??? are you retarded, who gives a fuck? thanks for wasting 45 secs of my life. that's all i watched, cause this is retarded. and then thanks for wasting another 30 seconds to post this comment to tell you how fuckin' dumb you are.
melgibsonhasaposse 2 years ago
Why the fuck would anyone waste their time on this? They are a punk rock band so STFU.....and they know their roots and sometimes do tribute stuff. So what....that's fuckin punk. Things are gonna sound similar.
dragon53777 2 years ago
Lol.
Unite and win.

US Copyright law is quite explicit that the making of "derivative works" -- works based or derived from another copyrighted work -- is the exclusive province of the owner of the original work.
thegothiclily 2 years ago
You kidding me?
You suck. They don't even sound similar.
riskytim 2 years ago 2
why do you insist on calling greenday a "punk rock" band?
Hendrixstrato 2 years ago
Lol. I cannot understand why SO many people do that. I figured that fancy new cell phone commercial that those jackasses star in... would've made that message kind of clear. ;P
^_^
Krakshot 2 years ago
It's clear and deliberate act of copyright infringement by the punk group Green Day of the song" New Dreams" by Naked Raygun. This is soooooooooooo wroooooooooong!!!!!!!!!!!
