Luckily, I recorded this when it appeared on PBS television here in the States in 1993. The anti-Taylor remarks here are very irritating, given the fact that she was a fine actress, and gave a superb performance in the 1959 film. If you don't like her, that's fine, but it's ridiculous to denigrate her great performance.

The original one has its fine moments. To be honest, Taylor was extraordinary beautiful but not a great actress. She always overdid it and her voice irritated.

I compared this scene with its 1959 counterpart, they are closely mirrored but the acting in the modern version is on both sides so much better. I love to see the tv adaption with Richardson...and it isn't there.

There doesn't appear to be a region 2 version of it, ironically. Saw this on digital but it was in black and white (our digital's broken).

A trick for anyone annoyed that they can't see a movie because it's not available in their region: You may be able to change your disk drive to view a different region's DVDs. You can only do this 5 times, so get a pile of DVDs to watch all at once. :)

You can only do it 3 times on our computer- it's not ideal.

Unfortunately Maggie Smith at the BBC is not on Region 2 (ironically).
