saw him a "the outpost" in brisbane on his final tour, voice perfect, great night for all the faithful, probably only about 200 at the most, australia you missed out, should have been a stadium concert ! we all sang along, he said he was recording it, like to have it posted ?
Manly eh? I did my final practice teaching at Balgowlah Boys' in late 1967. Can't remember if they played 'The Loved One' or 'Everlovin' Man'. Fantastic group. Gerry Humphries RIP
Ohh Yeah !! Awesome .. this kind of music stands the test of time. Gerry and the band, for their day, were genuine ground-breakers, musically-speaking. Gerry Humphries' talent opened doors of opportunity & acceptability for many later Aussie rock bands .. and for that alone, not to mention his fantastic musical contribution to the history of Oz Rock Music .. he should long be remembered.
I came from Melbourne to study in Sydney in Feb 1966. Of course, in those days Sydney radio stations refused to play Melbourne records. 'The Loved One' was one of them I made sure I went out every day with shiny new decimal coins to ring every Sydney station and request it. Slowly but surely, they came around, 2UW, 2UE, even 2SM and 2CH. Then other kids began requesting it. It made it onto the Sydney Top 40 lists and did pretty well in Sydney for a Melbourne record. I claim responsibility
@DENISMURRELL I'm going to have to thank you, because it sounds true. Our class of '67,at school in Manly.Sydney, included 5 or 6 guys who wore black arm-bands,when The Loved Ones broke up.Thanks,Denis & AussieOldies, too.
These guys were so different to anybody making music at that time or ever since. And their charismatic lead singer Gerry Humphreys was a mountain of talent. What a complete shock when they broke up suddenly and disappeared into oblivion. Greatness cut short. A tragedy for music.
Vale Gerry ....however your art will live for eternity.

The best Aussie rock band ever. Not unlike Jethro Tull in feeling. I freaked when I was about 20.
