  • are you going to do skyrim?

  • The more I'm pestered about a Skyrim review, the less likely it's going to happen (hell, it's already on the denied list for now).

  • thor axe from xplay

  • @DWTerminator Have you played Skyrim, yet?

  • No. And I won't until it's $5 or less.

  • @DWTerminator What's your problem with it?

  • For one, people like you keep pestering me about it, which only makes me *not* want to play it. For another: I have *zero* faith in Bethesda's ability to produce a game I'll like playing (and DON'T try to persuade me it's worth it. There's *nothing* anyone can say to make me want to play it).

  • @DWTerminator Why did you show emphasize on your "don't" by capitalizing it, but used an asterisk for everything else?

  • @DWTerminator If you were to take Todd Howard's position at Bethesda and direct the 6th Elder Scrolls game, how would you make it and what features would you include in it? Just a little curious and thought I'd ask you for the fun of it.

  • Implement a system where the player's choices affect the outcome of the game (in both large and small ways, and it won't always be clear until things happen), branching storyline with multiple outcomes (that people put EFFORT into writing), bring back major/minor skills, increase game difficulty (within reason of course), make stats noticeably affect gameplay, make sure the setting was interesting, make sure dungeons don't feel same-y, reward exploration adequately, have a QA department, etc.

  • @DWTerminator I honestly kind of like the no major/minor skills. It doesn't make me feel obligated to train one set of skills to level up. I also like how they made the level system kind of like morrowinds where everything doesn't level with you. But who am I to say these things? I havne't played it or bought it, and I don't plan on it anytime soon either

  • In Skyrim you basically become a jack-of-all-trades who is good at everything. It breaks the game and makes everything too easy in the long run. In Morrowind, your skills leveled up as you used them, which worked just fine.

  • @DWTerminator You only become a jack of all trades if you want to and spend hours upon hours grinding up your skills. Nobody's putting a gun to your head and forcing you to max out every skill.

Do you you even know anything about the game you're criticizing? In Skyrim, your skills ALSO level up as you use them.

  • I'm assuming you're talking about Oblivion on the jack of all trades bit here... It's incredibly easy to level up your skills just through normal play, without even leveling up once. In a lot of cases you don't even need to bother with that. The lockpicking for instance can be done at any skill level. Spells don't have skill level requirements either: you just have to have enough magicka to cast them.

I don't care about Skyrim, either.

  • @DWTerminator Oh also, spells in Oblivion actually DO have skill level requirements. And even if they didn't, you would have to level up in order to get enough magicka to cast them anyways.

  • Funny... I never noticed any skill level requirements for spells in Oblivion. If there were, maybe I didn't notice because was because I never paid attention to my skill levels thanks to them being essentially pointless. In reality all you need is a lot of magicka, and not much else.

  • @soranaru "In Skyrim you basically become a jack-of-all-trades who is good at everything. It breaks the game and makes everything too easy in the long run. In Morrowind, your skills leveled up as you used them, which worked just fine."

This was the comment I was responding to, in which you make a completely inaccurate claim about Skyrim. I'm not talking about Oblivion.

  • It didn't specify which comment you were replying to. Completely inaccurate? No. You *will* be a jack of all trades by the end unless you exhibit a completely one-track mind (not hard to do in a hack n' slash like Skyrim).

  • @DWTerminator I think at the least everyone should go to a friends house and rush through the main story as it's pretty much a really good movie.

  • @mainkilla I play RPGs religiously and it's still one of my favorites if not my number 1 favorite

  • oblivions music is so damn good

  • I'm unsubscribing. You don't know what you're talking about.

  • worst game i ever played terribly broken

  • This is a heavily biased review. This is like comparing daggerfall with call of duty. Oblivion is a legendary game in its own right. I believe you are taking its dumbed down feel to hard.

  • @TspawnCamper Oblivion was dull. Nothing special about it except the mod community, when it isn't perverted as all Hell.

  • at the start when you are fighting marauders where is that?

  • Battlehorn Castle. It's one of the DLC areas (only reason I have it is because Bethesda gave it out for free for a while).

  • Ah Oblivion, such an amazing game. My first 360 RPG. Nice review as usual.

  • @MettalicSnake Hmm, well, it's amazing as a starter RPG I guess. If you played RPGs religiously, not much so.

  • They make a difference. If they didnt they wouldnt put them in the game. Its that simple. And you chooses extra attributes you want also so they become more effective.

  • They have very little effect in the long run. Someone with low strength may do a little less damage than someone with higher strength, but it mostly depends on the weapon you're using. There's a certain point when skills actually become a detriment but that's when they're REALLY low. You'll never encounter any moments where you think "hmm... I need to level up and come back here later."

  • Because you raise your attributes by leveling up? And you cant raise them if u dont. Unless you had auto level up on which is retarded

  • The attributes don't matter in the grand scheme of things. Really you could play the entire game without looking at the stats screen at all and wouldn't be any worse off than someone who really paid close attention to the attributes. Contrary to what you say, you actually don't need to sleep to raise your attributes anyway. They gradually improve as you do things.

  • You can't beat the entire main quest at level one unless you don't sleep in your bed. That's one thing I didn't like about this game but they fixed that in fallout 3 oblivion in the best TES game I think

  • Why bother leveling up at all when you can beat the entire game without it? The sad thing is that Fallout 3, despite forcing the level-ups, is actually easier than this. The level scaling is still royally screwed up.

I stand by Daggerfall being the best in the series.

  • Thanks dude but too bad I don't have a million dollar box :( lol. Any way if you want DWTerminator if you want any tips on oblivion I can help ( or fallout 3 or any other games you have that I have as well ). Your vids are awesome and I can't believe I actually got someone popular to reply a comment on YouTube. I will sub. And if u want can you plz plz plz sub or send a friend req. To my account thx

  • Yeah, I know... it's a little disheartening to find out something's not worth a ton. Anymore I find a lot of great games in wonderful condition for < $5. It's sad, really. As for Oblivion, I don't really need any help with it. Thanks anyway.

Also, glad you like the videos. Don't normally think of myself as "popular" though.

I generally don't send out friend requests (unless I personally know whoever it is), but I usually accept the ones that aren't spam. I hardly notice the friend system, TBH.

  • You may not believe me but my copy if oblivion (xbox 360) has the T rating on the box front and back. I don't know if it is a mere typo or do I have something valuable on my hands?

  • It's not a typo. The original release of the game was T-rated. Eventually they re-rated it to M because there were extremely simple mods that gave it that level of mature content. Of course, Oblivion sold millions (and continues to sell), so the original T-rated copies, while nice collector's items, aren't particularly valuable.

  • @Richaverezrocks It's not. I think my copy might have T on it since I bought Oblivion pretty early(I was pretty damn excited for it).

  • U said aewsome a lot

  • The irony of that is that in the time since I've made this review, I've realized that there's essentially nothing truly awesome about this particular game.

  • im unsubbing

  • I could care less, really. I don't do this for the subs.

  • @DWTerminator

Yet another person to mix up "Could care less" and "Couldn't care less"?

  • If you're referring to me, then no. I *could* care less whether this guy unsubbed or not. If he doesn't like my videos, that's fine by me. Everyone's entitled to his/her own opinions.

  • @DWTerminator Hey, do you recommend Messiah of Might & Magic rather than this for FPS combat? Just asking, because it's like 5 bucks at my local store(I just figured out they had tons of old games there=awesome).

  • Dark Messiah of Might & Magic has *far* better combat than Oblivion.

  • Oblivion is awesome, you suck..

  • Say goodbye to social life, say hello to SKYRIM :D

  • Does the game really have sexual themes?

  • It has a few situations where sexual stuff is mentioned, but those are rare and aren't really noticeable. The game DID get the T rating originally, after all.

  • are you looking forward to Skyrim?

  • No. People REALLY need to stop asking me that.

  • @DWTerminator sorry

  • will you re-review this game? because after watching your more recent videos i get the feeling you're opinion of this game has greatly changed

  • I might make an addendum to it, and yes, my opinion has greatly changed. This is one of those games where playing through once is pretty much all the fun you'll get out of it.

  • I prefer Oblivion to Morrowind. Just saying.

  • oblivion = easy the best elder scrolls game out there

morrowind is just "meh" compared with this

plus the fact that morrowind has very limited voice acting almost ruined the game for me

    no voice acting=boring caracters

  • Oblivion = So easy that it gets extremely boring within 20 minutes + generic fantasy "European"-style setting + rather bad writing (story and dialogue are simply crap).

Morrowind = Challenging gameplay + interesting setting + more content + weak writing (story isn't very involving and the dialogue is fairly generic).

Morrowind easily trumps Oblivion in my eyes. I could care less about voice acting. If that's your only argument then you're standing on very thin ground.

  • @DWTerminator oblivion=better combat sistem, far more content(oblivion has 200 hours)far better side-quest, better graphics and art desing, cities look far better and realistic, game and more interesting caracters not to mention voice acting witch is lame and very limited in morrowind

    see?

    oblivion>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>morrowind

  • I'll give you the combat (though it's pretty wimpy in the scheme of RPG's), but comparing graphics is pointless since Oblivion was released 4 years after Morrowind.

As for content... Morrowind's got more factions, is actually challenging, has more quests, and is a more interesting environment. Oblivion removed medium armor, spears, crossbows, staves as melee weapons, katanas (apart from the Akaviri kind), wakizashis, tantos, broadswords, halberds, and throwing weapons.

    Do I need to continue?

  • you can beat the game in level 1 well then up the difficulty from the easiest!

  • That's the case on hard difficulty too. The game simply is far too easy in its base format no matter how you slice it. Good thing mods can fix that problem.

  • i know oblivion had its ups and downs like any other game, but you hate on it too much. To me oblivion is better than Dragon age because i like the exploration and fighting in oblivion while in dragon age just sends you trough a corridor and to get some exploration you must buy dlc's(which is a thing i utterly hate) and fighting is like wow or runescape (point and click) which doesnt immerse me that much in the game. The only thing that attracts me in doa is the immersion in the story(decisions)

  • People seriously need to stop comparing Dragon Age to Oblivion. They're two *completely different* styles of RPG (though Oblivion's more like an action game with stats than an RPG... same with Skyrim only it's even more action/less RPG if the gameplay trailer's any indication).

And it's impossible to "hate on it" too much when it seems like everyone else *praises it* too much. Seriously. It's *at best* a mediocre, hopelessly generic open-world game that has a ton of mechanical & tech problems.

  • @DWTerminator i know that oblivion aint that much comparable, their styles are different. Personally i see oblivion like a sandbox game were you can do whatever you like(i like the game because of that) and dragon age has biowares formula for its rpg's which is the same as in star wars kotor series( which is pretty good for its simplicity).

I agree with you about oblivion being praised to much as being the best rpg because personally i prefer morrowind to obilvion.

  • Oblivion's pretty much just an open-world action game with stats... so I dunno why people claim it's the best RPG ever. It's like claiming Pablo Picasso is the best musician ever.

Even then, it doesn't even deserve an ounce of the praise it gets. There's nothing truly good about it.

As for the best in the TES series: Daggerfall, bar none. Morrowind is the next step down, then Arena, then Oblivion.

  • Just about right. But I wonder why the cookie-cutter caves, forts, ruins, and Oblivion gates are never mentioned, because that's a bigger downer for immersion too!

  • Probably didn't think of those at the time.

  • to be honest for one of the first ever xbox 360 games it is pretty impressive. PC, xbox 360 or PS3. Period. cant stand how people argue or brag shit all the time about other consoles/platforms.

  • From a technical standpoint, yes, it was impressive at the time despite being unoptimized and buggy. From an RPG fan like myself's standpoint, it's a dumbed-down, boring action game with stats that was idiotically hailed as one of the best RPG's ever made.

The major advantage the PC has over the consoles in this case is the ability to install mods. Those actually try to fix everything that was broken by Bethesda (keyword: try).

  • @DWTerminator

Yeah i can agree with all of that and there are RPG's with many better elements. i loved the music and feel of it though apart from the oblivion gates.

And i understand perfectly that the PC is better in pretty much every way, i just wish people wouldnt go on abut it, i mean whats the point? lol just enjo.y the game on what platform you can get it on i say thats applying for all games. too much arguing in the world

  • Well when there's as huge a difference between versions as, say, Oblivion or Dragon Age... it makes sense that all the arguing exists. But yes, if you enjoy the game on whatever system you're playing it on, that's fine.

As for Oblivion itself, yes, the music is excellent, but it feels like Soule was trying to be a bit too "epic," as opposed to the slightly underwhelming stuff in Morrowind. The overall feel was pretty bland for me though.

  • the only reason why people think this game is SOOO good(often, at least) is because they're console cavemen... basically they're cavemen looking at fire for the first time, while we pc paragons are used to freaking plasma combustion engines and other advanced shit. I think it's good... it has a charm to it... In fact, this game actually brang me out of console tartarus(cant spell it correctly, lol)

THIS IS WHY THIS GAME IS SO GOOD ON PC, MODS ADD MORE CONTENT THAN ANY OTHER GAME!!!!!!!

  • If I were reviewing the console version, this probably would've been a 2/5. The mods are what makes it worth playing, sadly. The base game is absolutely pathetic.

  • @DWTerminator indeed.....

Its a shame that the console tards make the game developers dumb down games in fear of low sales..

"HERP DERP HOW TO I GO FORWARD HERP DERP"

  • The simple fact of the matter is that console games sell *far* better than PC games. As a result the minority PC gamers get left behind in favor of the ignorant 360/PS3 masses. That said, some console games are suitably complex... but not many.

  • @DWTerminator also, heres to in hopes of skyrim having depth! *clink*

  • It won't, but we can hope eh?

  • @DWTerminator OH YE OF LITTLE FAITH......

sooo.... you wanna discuss this on skype or something?

i havea lot to say and too little characters.

  • Not really. I'm all burnt out on Oblivion/Skyrim discussions. -_-

  • @DWTerminator ok then...

  • @DWTerminator What's your favorite Elder Scrolls game?

  • Daggerfall.

  • @JoonStudios Do you know how to run it correctly.cI can only run Arena and well, I don't exactly like it.

  • I just run Daggerfall and Arena in DOSBox (Redguard and Battlespire work that way too). Daggerfall's just a pain to set up, so look up an install guide.

  • @DWTerminator I did but the sound turs off even after tinkering with the sound instal settings.

  • Sound's finicky in DOSBox. My attempts to get Gravis Ultrasound emulation working always result in failure, for instance. Anyway, switch it back to settings it came with and the sound should work.

  • @DWTerminator Okay, thanks.

  • i have the goty edition. this game is awesome!

  • You can change the difficulty

  • Game's still too easy on hard.

  • Fallout is better :P

  • buying this on ps3 tomorrow for 25$cdn, GOTY..hope its worth it

  • I can't recommend the 360 or PS3 versions of the game due to the lack of mods and the problems vanilla Oblivion has. I certainly hope it's worth it for you as well.

  • i didnt like the level system, if they had stuck with the regular xp thing and skills still leveled as they do, i just didnt comprehend the level system

  • You gain levels after a certain number of points in your major skills are gained. I'm not sure exactly how many or how it spaces itself out, but that's how it works.

But yes, simply having overall XP to determine the character's overall level would probably have made things a little better. Not much better, but slightly.

  • I'm playing it on Xbox 360 and I can't get beyond level 1. I don't understand, I sleep my character, I use my skills...but I don't level up. I must be doing something wrong.

Very nice review. I love your reviews actually.

  • That's weird... when you're ready to level up it'll display a moon icon near the health/magicka/fatigue bars. Then you have to use a bed of some sort to sleep and level up. If you've been doing that and it hasn't done anything, there's probably something severely wrong with your game.

    Glad you like the reviews.

  • Cool review, I think the biggest mistake Bethesda made was fast travel... You can go from quest to quest without seeing the big, beautiful world that bethesda created. Thats the one thing I liked about Morrowind better.

  • Actually, Morrowind has fast travel too. To be perfectly honest, the fast travel in Oblivion is fine by me. That way, if you *want* to explore and "experience" the world, you can, but if you want to speed through the game, you can do that too.

I really think Bethesda just screwed up in level scaling and overall difficulty. They fixed that in Fallout 3 by making the level-ups automatic rather than requiring rest.

  • @wackyluke444 well, most places you have to go, ain't discovered by you yet so you have to go ALL the way up there.

  • I used to have a ton of mods, and after doing the same with Fallout 3 and enjoying the outcome, decided to uninstall it and delete all the mods from my system entirely (even the backups). Unfortunately, upon the installation, the game somehow left out the "Data" folder, meaning every single mesh, texture, sound effect, etc., were nowhere to be found... So I had to use an old Data folder backup that I had from before I tried OOO, with a lot of mods still in it...

  • Well that's kinda weird. I'm glad I got Oblivion on disc rather than on Steam like I did with Fallout 3 (I forget to back Steam games up very easily). Now that my FO3's full of mods, it's practically impossible to back it up.

I dunno why it left out the data folder for you, but I can tell you that it's an extremely serious problem and you should probably take it up with Bethesda if it happens more than once.

  • one time i found a floating tree....lol

  • Yay, glitches.

  • Best action Rpg I've ever Played well second Shadowrun was great

  • So is the game really as bad descriptor wise as the re-rate says it is? By this I mean the fact that they changed the rating on all consoles based on a female topless mod and a bit more blood than was first seen when they FRICKIN PLAYED IT THROUGH. I'd like to know soon so i can convince my dad to let me play it.

  • Well... the gore level made me wonder why it didn't get M in the first place. There's heads on pikes all over the place, zombies are fairly gruesome, and there's plenty of blood all over the dungeons. That said, the main reason for the re-rate was the nude mod (though the argument stands that even a My Little Pony game could be made "adults only" by mods), much like the infamous GTA:SA "Hot Coffee" mod getting the game temporarily re-rated to AO until they removed the content from the discs.

  • @DWTerminator So i'm thinking I'm not gonna get my Dad to let me play this. I guess I'll attempt to strike a deal with him i guess.

  • If you can find an original "T" copy of the game you should be fine.

  • @DWTerminator Didn't have to! I got my dad to let me get it through the arguement that the Nudity mod is only avalible for PC.

  • Well, the nude mod is just that: a mod. You don't *have* to install it.

  • (continued)

I still dig Oblivion tons though and I can't help but be sucked into the gorgeous world of Cyrodiil AND The Shivering Isles :). I was wondering if you could do a Classic Review of Daggerfall and Morrowind to round out the series (since you already did 2 out of the 4 :P)?

  • 1. Glad you like it.

    2. You're entitled to your opinion, and I have yet to play Shivering Isles.

    3. I'll review Daggerfall once I get reacquainted with it. It's been a loooong time. Morrowind's been giving me recording issues so I need to resolve those before I can do a review of it.

  • @DWTerminator Cool, sounds good man! I would recommend playing Shivering Isles. That might make you raise your score of Oblivion by .5 :D. It kind of has that Morrowind type look with a color scheme straight out of Alice in Wonderland. Look forward to your other reviews (especially the Daggerfall and Morrowind ones).

  • I don't raise scores of older games in reviews just because of expansion packs, but if you look at my Beyond the Sword review, you'll see that I say that it really makes the game worthwhile. If the expansion's good enough, it gets a high score.

That said, SI looks interesting, but the problem is that it's an expansion for Oblivion. I'll see about picking it up though.

  • I subbed you!!! Nice review. I personally would give the game a 4.5 out of 5 and I play on Xbox 360 (with all the DLC and Shivering Isles). I've also played Daggerfall and Morrowind (and about a few minutes of Arena). Daggerfall had me hooked for hours on end back in the day. (continue)

  • Love this game but I prefer Morrowind :P

  • why give it a 3.5 id give it a 4 star i really enjoyed it i spent a good old 50 hours on it and i only ever managed to get upto lvl 16 the graphics are absolutely stunning but the combat system was a let down in TesV they should add more housing and improve the combat system

  • 3.5 means "above average, but not all that wonderful." With mods it's quite fun, but vanilla Oblivion gets really old really fast. It amounts to just bashing stuff in the head all game or wandering about aimlessly, which isn't really a plus in such a buggy game with a rather bland rendition of Cyrodiil as just another generic medieval fantasy setting (it lost the atmosphere that Morrowind had).

  • @DWTerminator i agree when i mean't i really enjoyed it i mean't i did enjoy it i loved the graphics and the scenery but that was it

  • Too much emphasis was put on "let's pretty things up" and not enough on what actually makes a game worth playing. It's still a fun game and certainly worth playing, but it just lacks "oomph."

  • if u want beter graphics get Qarl's Texture Pack III

  • Already have it. Of course, the engine's instability isn't too good for QTP, but whatever.

  • yep this game is 5 star and it deserves to be

  • No... it's 3.5 stars and deserves that. Why? It's dumbed-down for consoles and the whole game suffers as a result. It's not even really an RPG anymore: it's an FPS wannabe. That said, it's still certainly a fun game and worth playing, but if you've got the console version you'll be bored very quickly. Mods make it far better.

  • How is the dice roll to hit stupid? Every single RPG has attack rolls. WoW, Diablo, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, Final Fantasy. You are telling me that a 1 Level High Elf Mage with 5 Marksman and 50 Agility, can fire an arrow and can hit a running target at 50 meters, because the player played the game before and knows how to shoot? How is that realistic?

  • For something like bows, it would probably be better to have accuracy spread like in FPS's. It gets ungodly annoying at the beginning of an RPG when you can't hit *anything*, especially in Morrowind where the first enemies you fight can tear you apart because of that fact.

For melee it makes more sense. In a first person RPG, it's difficult to really get into dice rolls. Something like FF, BG, NWN, etc. and you expect it and don't mind it as much.

  • @DWTerminator Maybe accuracy spread would work for missile weapons but not for melee weapons. Well you can't hit anything if your desired skill is 5 or 10. I tested it right now. I made a Dunmer Assassin (major skill marksman) in Morrowind. At 40 marksman and full fatigue he could hit 1/2 to 1/3 of times fired and that's great for a 1 level character. Miss chance represents other things: bad accuracy, not knowing how to hold a bow, shaking of the hands.

  • @DWTerminator So a 90 old woman with no experience at archery can have the same accuracy with an Olympic champion but would "do less damage" like in Oblivion? Same situation with melee. The same person has the same accuracy and skill with a samurai?

  • With the melee system in Oblivion, it's not so much about "accuracy and skill." You swing, you either miss or hit depending on your proximity to the target.

My argument with Morrowind is that given the *way* you do the combat, it's just awkward and to be honest rather silly. I mean, honestly, do you ever uncheck the "use best attack" setting? Daggerfall/Arena's system worked much better.

As for accuracy and such... I actually find Mount & Blade's combat system exceptional. Might take a look.

  • @DWTerminator Sure Morrowind's 3 different attacks is pointless but at least the attack roll makes sense. You give an old beggar a sword and he knows how to swing, without it slipping from his hands or dropping it, and also has the same ai and skill with a 40 level arena warrior? Plus what I REALLY miss is sanctuary, the dodge function of agility and unarmored. A 50 level Monk has the same armor class with a 1 level commoner, making monks useless. Plus in Morrowind staves do damage

  • Never said the game has to make sense. It *is* a game after all, and Oblivion's been dumbed down for the console horde anyway. Luckily, PC has mods.

  • @DWTerminator Well if it makes no sense it ruins immersion. TESV should just be a fantasy sandbox action game and be done with it. Most important RPG elements were removed in Oblivion anyway ( attack rolls, dodge, lockpicking can be done with anyone regardless of skill, speechcraft is useless, hell even levelling is useless if EVERYONE levels with you). Remove custom classes, just give us a well defined role and let us play or remove minor skills (a barbarian skilled in magic and lockpicking?)

  • Oblivion's not even really an RPG to begin with. It's a wannabe FPS. Hell, Fallout 3 did RPG elements better than it, and it IS an FPS.

TES's immersion was always created by the massive game worlds, not by the RPG elements, which got increasingly transparent as the series progressed anyway. Hell, I'm more of a "hardcore RPG" player than most people I know, but I like Oblivion's combat over Morrowind's. It feels far more responsive, like you're actually trying to fight instead of flail around.

  • @DWTerminator Exactly. TESV should be a longer sandbox next gen Dark Messiah. I don't mind the attack rolls in Morrowind but the animations especially the running animation are AWFUL. But this and maybe the attack rolls are small prices to pay for the much richer experience, immersion and story.

  • Depends on how much more they dumb down TES5. Dark Messiah is a clever RPG/FPS hybrid that works extremely well, so I'd like to see at least a combat system like it in TES5. I remember their E3 videos from about a year before release to where they said they were going for that "true kinetic feeling of guys bashing each other with swords." Well... they got the bashing part right at least...

Story in Oblivion is "eh." Is it immersive? Definitely.

  • thanks i baought this game and i really dont ever regreat buying this game i wud give it about a 4.5 becouse of the daggerfall and shit buta overall it probably has the best plotline ever i havent seen a better game maybe neverwinter knights thatws also a very weel made game but it isnt as fast pased as oblivion

  • Oblivion's plot isn't really all that great. It's fast-paced, sure, but the writing's just... mediocre. Of course, Elder Scrolls plots have never been all that great anyway (since they're more about the open world gaming experience), so it's understandable.

I really had a hard time liking Oblivion to be honest. It's ok on PC, but I wouldn't recommend it on console due to the lack of mods. That's really the only thing that keeps me even interested in it anymore. Daggerfall is far superior.

  • I agree, the first TES game that I played was oblivion on a 360. The next christmas I got Morrowind, and loved it! the next year (and haveing not finsihed everything in TES3) I got oblivon, and, was disapointed how you couldn't 'attach' to certain people other than two or three people (who all died anyway)

  • Well really, Oblivion is a.. Like or don't like game. For us who feel that a game doesn't need to be difficult to be fun, this game is really good. For those looking for a challenge, stay away from Oblivion. :P

  • lol, epic voice crack

  • Meh, it happens.

  • I started out with Morrowind as well, and played it for about a year, then I lost all of my saves and stuff, so I quit for a while. Then, I got Oblivion, and I was like WOW! I like the combat system better, but there was one thing that I really liked about the Morrowind combat was that you can make it look like you are charging to the front line. Also, I liked the Oblivion cheats. (Yes, I can beat the game without them, and I prefer to use them, and call them admin codes. :P)

  • Good thing about the PC version is the mods, check out the high res mods, amazing!

  • Most definitely.

  • @DWTerminator There's also FCOM buts its hell to install

  • DWTerminator you can acctualy turn up the diffuclty to make this game hard as hell go to options then gameplay then there will be a difficulty level there and you can trag it to hardest which pretty makes a rat seem hard XD if you wanted to up the diffuclty and make it more of a challenge then i suggest you use that XD no mods needed :D

  • I *did* up the difficulty. It's still too easy because of the level scaling. You need mods to actually make the game truly difficult.

  • one of the best games ever made, and the music rocks in this game, i actually got the soundtrack and it was totaly worth it

  • this review was very in depth and accurate and much better than the reviews for oblivion at ign which gave it between 8 and 9 out of 10 , thus proving that the game gets way to much feint praise

  • Glad you liked the review.

  • SHOULD I GET THIS GAME OR SAINTS ROW 2?

  • Two completely different game styles. Oblivion is an RPG (albeit it's closer to a pathetically done FPS with stats than an RPG), while SR2 is basically another GTA clone. It's up to you whether or not you'd prefer a more RPG-ish game or one where you do typical GTA stuff with a wacky flair.

  • I am glad that I make someone laugh.

  • Gothic 3 is so much better than this.

  • That may well be, but I haven't played 3 yet (only 2, which definitely *is* far better than Oblivion).

  • Play this game with MMM and you'll never finish this game at level one!

  • Of course with MMM or OOO it's difficult, but in vanilla it's WAAAAAY too easy.

  • I don't see how you can complete the game at level 1. Enter any of those Oblivion gates at low level and you will be chewed up and spat out. Guaranteed.

  • Not necessarily. You just need a lot of health potions, which the game is VERY generous with.

  • @herbaliser555 theres a glitch where you can beat the game without quests im not sure if they patched it yet though

  • @herbaliser555 Yes, of 'course you can beat the game at level 1. Enemies level with you and usually when your a higher level the oblivion gates are much, much harder - since the auto leveling system wasn't done well at all in this game. It all depends on your equipment and how high your skills are, as well as the difficulty slider.

  • Oblivion is second on my top four games, Mass Effect being number one, i fell in love with oblivoin the moment i started it up, and would play Oblivon 24/7 for atleast 6 months, it were so huge..and i have to say i have bought 3 different versions, the origina, the game of the year and the special edition, fierd up oblivion about a week ago..the only thing i did were walking around and wer totaly in awe over the nature, aaaaand Martin Septim is my all time favourite video game character XD

  • @lordwolf89 Same here, i walked into EB and i saw this second hand copy on PS3, i always thought RPGs were for nerds but i played this and know im hooked to RPGs, i have Collectors Edition on 360 and GOTY on PS3, and im gettin' goty this week on 360, and theres about 5 copies/versions i have yet to get.

  • you kind of have to level up other wise it is easy

  • Even when you do level up, it's not difficult.

  • the graphics aren't better on the pc unless you have a high powered graphics card the graphics suck if you don't and still even with that it is just as good as hd 360 graphics not better and the controls are better? I hate sitting at my p.c. I hate the controls but you are entitled to your opinion.

  • Actually, the graphics on PC don't require a "high powered graphics card" (GeForce 76-7800 works just fine and they don't even make those anymore), but it helps if you have one. You can compare the PC's max settings to 360's default and notice that PC not only looks better (esp. if you have Qarl's texture pack), but runs better as well.

Oblivion's controls were optimized for a 360 controller, so obviously they work fine on it. I prefer the far quicker mouse and keyboard myself (used to 'em).

  • stuff you all! PC is the way to go, the graphics are better, the controls are better, you can mod it and there are more expansion packs!

  • Yes, but not everyone wants to shell out the money for a good PC or has the know-how to put together a good one. They find it easier to buy a console every 5-8 years. :/

  • the game controls are weird on the ps3

  • Of course they are. The PS3 controller (like the 2 controllers before it since they're exactly the same) is awful. They don't understand the concept of comfort at all.

  • I'm so glad somebody said this. The PS3 controller is a joke.
