perfect example that those first 3 rings were thanks to shaq, look at kobe, al he had to do is give the ball to shaq... Kobe is a great player of course but he had a LOOOT of help from shaq
If Shaq and Kobe worked there problems out they should have won 6 or 7 titles together.
Shaq was still a dominate force until 2005 and was actually 2nd in MVP voting behind Steve Nash that year. In 2006 he did star to decline but was still putting up around 19 points and 10 rebounds in the playoffs. He could have toke a back seat to Kobe like he did with D-Wade in 2006
yeah but he was to arrogant and proud to understand that he could no longer be the #1 man. he finally realized that in the 2006 finals i think. but it was too late for his carear. he has said many time that he wants 5 or 6 rings to complete his legacy. he not getting them unfortunatly. this year was his last chance but lebron choked in the playoffs and shaq didnt get his chance. he did good in games 5 and 6 in the series with boston though.
2000-02 was awesome. This guy was such a beast in his prime, if he had worked out and stayed in shape the way Karl Malone did he would probably have a couple more rings and 4 or five more complete seasons.
I feel (my opinion) that from 2000-2002 Shaq may have been the most dominant player n NBA history. Alot of the all-time greats have a tremendous 3-year run, Bird from 84-86, Olajuwon from 93-95, Jordan from 91-93 (yes he did 3 peat again from 96-98, but I feel he was more dominating during the Bull's 1st run) & Magic from 87-89. I'm only 37, so I didnt see Wilt, Russell & Oscar n their heyday, & though Kareem was unstoppable on offense, he wasnt the rebounder he used 2 be when I saw him play.
Yeah...to score like that and put up that sky high fg% was astounding. And to dominate 2 DPOTY in the Finals (one in 01 and another in 04)...Interrestingly enough, he is on pace to get his 10th fg% title this year averaging 18ppg and has already played more games at this point [63] than he has in the past 3-4 years.
Don't forget Tim Duncan from 2002-2005. In that span he won two championships, two MVPs, and two Finals MVPs.
Tim was arguably the best player in the league from the moment he played his first game. Most analysts think he was snubbed in MVP voting in 1999 when he barely lost to Karl Malone. And don't forget that he missed the 2000 playoffs because of knee surgery. If that hadn't happened, I bet they would have repeated as champions.
i agree. iverson is last on that list, and duncan and bryant are a VERY close 1 and 2, but duncan has been a team leader his whole career while kobe's been a leader for about 5 years.
nineonmychest: That's not a bad order, although I kind of think Duncan edges out Kobe "slightly", mainly because he was the #1 guy on most of the teams he won championships with, but that's just me.

Haha, they're all dunks and blocks. Tim Duncan was a better play in the early 2000s because he had more skills *and* was equally effective. He just didn't have enough help in 2002. The next year he would destroy the Lakers.
Everyone who has seriously followed Tim Duncan's career will vehemently proclaim him the best player of this era. Don't get me wrong - Shaq is an all-time great, and he also had his time as the best player. But overall, Duncan was the best player of this era. Shaq was second, and Kobe Bryant was third.
Shaq is why i used to like the lakers. Kobe is why i don't still like them

Man, Duncan was awesome back in the day. I've been watching him, Kobe, AI and KG since they were all rookies. :) I rank them like this:
Duncan
Bryant
Garnett
Iverson
