But does anyone respect the people who stood defending Berlin? Often these were people just wanting a strong, independant country not restricted by the Allies and deserve as much honour as the Red Army did.
It doesn't matter who would take Berlin, but it does matter who paid the highest price to stop the nazi scums. Glory to the russian soldier and all soviet volks. And once more. Do you know, why allies didn't take Berlin or Praha or Budapest? Because there were freaking bloody fights and they would get their asses kicked big time. But nobody could stop soviets in rage anymore. Yes, we lost a lot of good men in this war, but soviets stopped the nazi machine and nobody else.
@11RD1993 For information USA GB and Australia were in europe and in pacific Soviets were just in europe ok i agree they made a wonderfull job against german army and SS but don't forget that USA GB and every country who fight ed during this war still exist except URSS (CCCP) i like this period specially how allied acted after the war they didn't made the same errors this war could be stoped before she started then i say thanks to everyone who gived his life for the humanity and liberty in war

@pinky3pie what are you talking about man? allied air forces caused more damage to the nazi war machine then the soviets. if allied commanders were willing to take the heavy loss for berlin. they would have done so. the soviet air force could not reach any nazi factories until soviet ground forces pushed the germans back far enough for its bombers to reach. by the way, the soviets were using an extreme amount of american and british war machines from 41 to the end of the war.

Of 4 brothers 2 survived. 1 died in the Pripyat marshes fighting as a partisan. Another died outside of Warsaw. My wifes grandfather was an airplane mechanic and gunner in a IL-4 (the big one) bomber. He got shot down twice and the only time he got hurt was when he broke his ankle on landing after bailing out the second time.

Read Chuikovs book, he had to be very careful about when he said to go as his troops did not know the meaning of the word stop. This lead to many casualties. All the soldiers cared about was getting to Berlin.

On the whole Berlin operation we lost about 80 000 soldiers, not much for operation of 2 fronts involving millions of soldier from both sides.
