Wow, are you 12? You want the facts, here's the facts: the song is in D flat minor. The main riff is D flat minor, A, E. The bass riff in the instrumental is playing a variation of the main riff. Sting is sharp on the D flat at around the 1:41-1:42 mark. Way sharp. It was a fluff. Those things happen. With Sting, they happened often live. There's your facts. You, on the other hand, make no sense at all. Anyone else want to enlighten our little friend as to the mysteries of playing in tune?
I've noticed that Sting routinely has a hard time playing fretless and hitting the correct pitches consistently. All of the Police's live work is marred by Sting flubbing bass notes. Here he's massively sharp during the instrumental break. Too bad.
@meccaturbo No, I am not retarded, nor an idiot. Check out 1:42 for example. What note is that? Is that a D flat? Kind of, but it's out of tune by quite a bit. He's way sharp. Now, you tell me; is that in tune to you? If so, you certainly have no place calling me an idiot. Everyone makes mistakes on stage, it happens. What I was pointing out is that Sting had a difficult time with correct pitch when he played fretless bass. That's a fact, not an opinion.
@typsypyg Is your ear a pitch pipe? I don't think so. So shut the fuck up with your silly retarded arguments. You have no facts upon which to base your argument, because you have not measured the exact pitch of what he's playing.
I have the bootleg videotape of this October, 1980 concert. The Zenyatta tour was the best IMO because The Police were still raw, with a substantial amount of fast kick ass songs... Things got more showy when they added a horn section in some of their Ghost shows.
i believe this was still regatta tour. zenyatta didnt come out until late 1980 and 81 was the zenyatta tour. they may have played songs off of zenyatta which isnt uncommon before a record comes out
All the early police stuff was often very fast because of 2 things,Stewart,always plays on top of the beat,and they were all doing a lot of cocaine!Andy did a blog on the police website last year saying "We will be playing the songs a lot slower this time,no cocaine this time around, were older now those days are gone"...
OMFG!!! My most favoritist Police song ever since 1981!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ddthorny, VERY TRUE!

@ddthorny He certainly is. Early on before the Police, he recorded with Eric Burdon and the Animals, something truly impressive.

it's so funny how sting gets pissed when stewart rushes the beat, so he starts moving his bass up and down to show him the right tempo :D
Priceless

Looks like Andy's doing a bit of that moving as well.

Great punkish song by The Cops. Fucking great bass line, and Stewart on the drums is fucking incredible. The greatest trio in rock history. PERIOD
mparesi7 3 years ago 3
This is a very underrated song. I think Sting was a little upset when he wrote it.
