Having said that, the insurance company should pretty much give you the red book value of the car in cash (minus your premiums) which you can either use to dump on the car loan or if you owned it outright then you could purchase a replacement in cash with some left over to pay off the tow charges and other nonsense.

@thugthugthump two harvesters for each mineral patch. 3 harvesters for gas. You must scout to see how you need incorporate harvesters, search for the cheese/rush.

In the state of California the city CAN have recovered stolen vehicles towed, and you as the owner are expected to pay the towing company for towing and storage whether or not you want your vehicle back. It's a disgusting and shady process, and a lucrative one at that, but it is legal. Any action would be against whoever stole his car; the towing company gets away clean. Legal theft.

Many of us have towing service or would even pay for our vehicle to be towed to our residence instead of to a tow yard where storage fees accumulate at a ridiculous rate, and where the towing company wins either way: you either pay them their ransom or they put a lien on your car and own it. @acolvill1 the PD cant keep the vehicle on the Property, it has to be move. most likely HD's car was in such bad shaped it took a few days to find the ownership of vehicle. its not always easy to get a hold of someone. Its not like they type in your license plate and all your information pops up, how can they get a hold of someone if they are not home. you pay them or no one pays them. towing isn't free.
HD you are under no legal obligation to pay the tow company for the bits of your car. Tell them to keep it and to go fuck themselfs at the same time. You can also sue the owner of the chop shop to recover the cost of your car.
HD, consider your next moves carefully, but do it quickly. It's a terrible system, but the city has the legal right to have stolen vehicles towed and said towing company is allowed to charge towing and storage fees regardless of whether or not you claim your vehicle. Again, the system is rigged to be sure, but I suggest you sign the remains of your car over before they put a lien on it, own it, sell it, and then charge you even more for the time it spent in their yard. Please thumb this up.

FYI: IF you did NOT call the towing company, they CAN NOT charge you, if the police called them to tow it they CAN take responsibility for it if it wasn't at your request, don't let them tell you otherwise.

Unfortunately what you're saying just isn't true. Please know the law before giving legal advice. In the state of California the city CAN have recovered stolen vehicles towed, and you as the owner are expected to pay the towing company for towing and storage whether or not you want your vehicle back. It's a disgusting and shady process, and a lucrative one at that, but it is legal. Any action would be against whoever stole his car; the towing company gets away clean. Legal theft.

@acolvill1 the towing company gets away clean doing a service .... it cost money to move and store the vehicle someone has to pay, its just a way for the government not to pay . sadly someone loses either way.

@GFunk4life The only service being done is to the towing company when the city calls them. The PD makes no attempt to contact you before moving your vehicle; you have no choice. Many of us have towing service or would even pay for our vehicle to be towed to our residence instead of to a tow yard where storage fees accumulate at a ridiculous rate, and where the towing company wins either way: you either pay them their ransom or they put a lien on your car and own it. Nobody wants or asks for that

@acolvill1 the PD cant keep the vehicle on the Property, it has to be move. most likely HD's car was in such bad shaped it took a few days to find the ownership of vehicle. its not always easy to get a hold of someone. Its not like they type in your license plate and all your information pops up, how can they get a hold of someone if they are not home. you pay them or no one pays them. towing isn't free.

HD you are under no legal obligation to pay the tow company for the bits of your car. Tell them to keep it and to go fuck themselfs at the same time. You can also sue the owner of the chop shop to recover the cost of your car.

HD, consider your next moves carefully, but do it quickly. It's a terrible system, but the city has the legal right to have stolen vehicles towed and said towing company is allowed to charge towing and storage fees regardless of whether or not you claim your vehicle. Again, the system is rigged to be sure, but I suggest you sign the remains of your car over before they put a lien on it, own it, sell it, and then charge you even more for the time it spent in their yard. Please thumb this up.

Sorry to hear about your troubles HD. A minimum of $500 is an absurd fee. I wouldn't pay anything until I had checked with my insurance company about what they'll cover, and sought whatever legal advice I could. If the towing company is legit and you refused to pay their fee, the worst they could do is turn you over to a collections agency. They wouldn't take you to court because that would cost them more than the bill they're trying to stick you with. Seek advice and explore your options.

They can't take away your right to choose who you hire to perform the service. Not even the police can force you to use a particular tow service. Hell the cheapest way would be to rent a truck, an engine lift and a couple helpers and go get it yourself.
