Wow the gearing really can help an engine. Our Sequoia 4.7 4 speed auto is geared nearly perfectly to that v8. Helped it pull 0-60 in mearly 7.8 seconds. Not bad for a huge suv with only 240 horses!
My Mom has a Denali and it has some balls, you wouldn't expect it out of an SUV, or at least I didn't. It does have a Corvette engine basically though, the 5.7L V8 :D
I also always used premium fuel after the intake and exhaust due to the fact my cpu was stock and the intake makes it run slightly leaner than optimal. 91-93 octane fuel keeps it from detonation under hard load, something 4.6 fords are succeptable to. I did all this stuff to my 04 f150 4.6 and it was very noticable quicker.
. As far as plugs platinum are not the best they only last longer NGK TR-5 are the best for the 4.6. I would also reccomend using full synthetic oil. Gunk total fuel system cleaner or Lucas Fuel injection cleaner
I would reccomend a cold air intake and If you don't want to spend the money buy a universal k&n filter for $50 or less cut the map sensor tube off the air box (its more like a cylinder) cut off the finns and larger outer tube and clamp it on. I used a 3inch opening 9inch base 6 inch top 9inches long filter. while your at it clean the throttle body with CRC spray and a rag on the end of a screwdriver.
I'll tell you exsacly what's the problem I owned one. The reason why the rpm stops a 5 is because you need another transmision screen. :) not a fuel filter to all the other commenters lol the transmission screen is probably dirty. Oh and another plus too. This is for you and other people out there. Make sure you start using unleded plus not regular gas it will make it save more gas and give you more horsepower.. Trust me I did it :) thanks
Let your engine warm up. It is almost all the way cold, like you had just started it and did the 0-60. Do it with the engine warmed up and I'll bet there will be an improvement.
Where you not full throttle? Because the shift points were not conclusive with WOT. Check the throttle cable and make sure the throttle body opens fully when your press it to the floor.
Maybe switching got a higher flow AirFilter (K&N) , New Fuel Filter which can slow u down when dirty, going to a higher Octane fuel (Maybe 89) and Platinum Spark Plugs could help you out.
I've been using those Dual Contact Bosch Platinum Spark Plugs on my cars and they do much better than the Autolite Platinums I used in the past.
I now have a 2002 with a 4.6, I'll try to post a 0-60 video in the coming weeks or after I get the oil changed.
It's got a Mobil 1 filter (basically it's the same as the K&N Filter- both made by champion labs), it's got the OE Motorcraft plugs still. Btw, Bosch plugs in Domesitc cars generally is a bad idea, they run badly unless the car was deisnged for them.
My mom has the 4.6 model too but it seems to accelerate much quicker than this. Is there anyway you where going up a hill, or where you not pressing the gas to floor? In fact I want to say i timed it one time and it was around 9.2 or something around that area. Correct me if im wrong.
Well, keep in mind it had full tank of gas (28 gallons) at the time. It was a flat run, and my foot could not have been pressed to the floor any harder or it would have busted a hole through the body pan.

chrisson123 1 year ago
@chrisson123 Yeah, and that better would be a Toyota Sequoia 4.7! lol, Im not going to lie, them 4.7s are fast.

check for a stretched throttle cable, that could be holding it back

Along with the 3 inch flowmaster 40 single side pipe. I did all this stuff to my truck for less than $200.

A crown vic police interceptor has a 4.6 in it but I think it's the same engine as a Mustang GT.
pearldrumsarecool 2 years ago
@pearldrumsarecool The crown vic has a 260HP 4.6L 2V SOHC. The Mustang is a 310HP 4.6L 3V SOHC

mattmiller6977 2 years ago
No it's right. The 4.6L has redline set to ~4800 for 1-2 shift.
rudolphna54 2 years ago
Check my video out, I also did a video response.
I didn't want to floor mine since it has 153k on it and I don't want to abuse it too much. It's got 153K on it.

??? I've driven quite a few 2003-2004 4.6 Expeditions in the Past and they seemed to of throttled up a bit quicker than this.
What kinda of gas do you use??
Intechdude300 2 years ago
It's just regular. Apparently ours seems to be slightly slower than normal. Not sure why though, there is no apparent reason for it.

just checking, but area do you live in? altitude might have something to do with it
MTenery14 2 years ago
I believe we are about 800-1000 feet above sea level here.
rudolphna54 2 years ago
hmmm...idk that could still be a problem. oxygen levels get lower as altitude gets higher. but thats not too high. do you service it regularly?
MTenery14 2 years ago
Yup. Change the oil every 6k miles with Motorcraft Semi-synthetic 5W-20 and a Purolator PureONE filter.
rudolphna54 2 years ago
how about fuel filters, air filters, etc?
MTenery14 2 years ago
New air filter generally every 15k or so, fuel filter every 35.
rudolphna54 2 years ago
yeah you are right Bc i want to say i had almost a quarter of a tank. would temperature make a difference?
GraysonBowen24 2 years ago
Possibly
