So many people pass off compiz as "eye candy", yet it has so many practical and convenient uses, as we see here. I would die without virtual desktops!
I must admit I have recently been lured into making a transition to SUSE Linux. After 10 years of using Windows and my pre-PC Amiga experience I think I'm going to discover something fresh. I'm not going to quit using MS OS, however, I still like it :-)
As an Ex Amiga user, the natural transition for me is now going to be towards Linux. Im sick to death of beating my head against the wall with Windows.
Hi, blade004. You'll still beat your head against the wall with Linux. However, it's through exploration/mistakes. General running of Linux is a breeze. It's a joy to use. When you get deep into Linux, it's tricky...but challenging and rewarding - as there are cool apps/gui tools, etc.... SLED10 was cool. Also Ubuntu or Linux Mint.
lol.. Yeah as you have pretty much predicted, ive had alot of beating my head against the wall moments trying to understand Linux, but then just comes with the territory when i comes to learning something new. People who generally call Linux difficult and hard to understand for someone new, are generally also the kinds of people who stick to one thing and dont want to learn or to lazy to learn something new. Thankyou for your input JazzCat :)
But after all the problems ive had trying to get everything running properly and the 2 weeks worth of google searches, forum questions etc.. im happy to say, its all working great!.. Never going to back to Windows, although i never wanted to use Windows to begin with, hence my 10 year stint using an Amiga from 1990 - 2000.
I think linux is 'easier' than Windows. Most people can't 'work' a computer - fullstop. Installing Linux is easier than XP. Administering (SuSE) Linux is easier, too, with YaST - friendly than control panel. Once you've added extra repos and sorted the codecs, you're there!
umm... actually, ya. The big difference is the spaces which is being released in the next edition. Overall tho pretty old hat in the linux community. so really, they just gave spaces new eye candy and copied Expose and (gasp) shawowing!

How can i cennect SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop to internet?

We need a CentOS equivalent for SLES/D. With Suse Studio it could be so easy

tsss... I used beryl and XGL on gentoo while it was still beta.
nothing more needs be said.

This is not a SUSE-only feature! This is just compiz-fusion, a composite-window manager package. You can find this in any good Linux Distro.
zelrikriandooo 3 years ago
I wasn't back then. Compiz and XGL were originally developed by Novell.
Novell and Red Hat practically develop everything, but sadly distros like ubuntu take the credit.

Can we install microsoft software from windows on suse linux, or it has it's own software versions like Macintosh computer ??
arkdov 5 years ago
It has his own, but you con use Wine (a program) to run Windows Software, or you can actually run Windows as a simple program with Qemu.

That's great, unless you can't get xgl installin the first place, because suse won't use your FUCKING WIRELESS CARD!!

Use Ndiswrapper. Simple tool for implementing Win32 drivers under Linux SuSE.
I used it for my card. Find the drivers and do a simple "ndiswrapper -i [path to .inf file]"
then
"ndiswrapper -l" to see if the drivers and hardware are present.
