  • @mohawk1069... I think your Velcro idea is great. Especially for a new Reefer such as myself. I'm no penny pincher but it always chafes me a bit when I have to cut zip ties. Plus, since I'm new to this I'm always looking for ways to improve.

  • Hey steelo! I have a quick question would a 250w metal halide light be a over kill for a 20 gallon long tank if so, would a 150w hang on metal halide be fine? Thanks:).

  • @mannny37 I would say yes. A 150w would be a lot better, but before you go this route, be sure to visit my video "Reef Aqarium Lighting" ti learn more on this subject and the fact that you will benefit from having a chiller. Good luck.

  • @newyorksteelo Thanks! If I decide to get that hang on light do you think it will light up the whole tank since its a 20 gallon long?

  • @mannny37 It should illuminate the entire tank, but most of the intensity will be focused on the center.

  • I like your videos man lots of good info., Ive got a suggestion for you though,., Instead of using zip ties use velcro,., I am a hometheater tech. and use velcro strips for all of my wire management., It holds just as tight as the zip ties and they dont have to be cut off if you need to take something out of the bundle or add something new., I buy it in 1/2" wide rolls and split it down the middle to make 1/4" strips., cut to the length you want with scissors and wrap it up.,

  • @mohawk1069 Awesome info. Sounds like this can work out quite well. Will keep this one in mind for sure. Thanks you for the comment, suggestion and for watching my videos.

  • love your accent man :)

  • @saad5990 Haaaaa, lol Thanks, I guess its a NY thing :)

  • @newyorksteelo yeaa me coming to NY this summer ;) gota learn lot of stuff :)

  • @saad5990 Good luck and enjoy!

  • hi i saw your video for cyanobacteria and i have replaced my carbon bag how long do i have to wait for this to see the effects of it ? thanks for your help brother .

  • @ravi197699 Carbon bag is not the solution here. Go back and check out the video again. The only reason why I use a carbon bag is because this chemipure product has GFO.

  • Hey steelo, new subscriber here. Thanks for all the videos, you do a great job! I have the same aqualight pro 48" and am doing the wiring tomorrow. Just wondering how you are going to be able to get the light off your tank for aquascape etc with the way you hooked up the ballasts etc... Thanks

  • @nanaimonucks Simple, the wires are located in the left side and the knots as well, I can easily lift the light and place it right next to the left side of the tank on my table. I planned this ahead of time. All th knots in the wiring are on the left side, only one knot on the right and it is for the metal halide ballast which is stretched across to allow me to do this. take a look at the video again and you see what I mean. i wont be able to place it on the floor but can on the table :)

  • @newyorksteelo

I am confused... isnt your table like 10 feet away and your 20 gallon white ato barrel on the left side of your tank? Does this mean you unplug your lights before removing from the tank? I am perfectionist when it comes to hiding cords as well and really like how you have done it. I am thinking of doing it how you did it then left lights off, tip them vertical and place standing up leaning on the left side of the tank.

  • @nanaimonucks The white container is right next to the tank and the table is a few feet in front of it. I simply slide the table to the front of the container, and easily remove the light and place it on top of the table. The container never needs to move. The wires are tied on the left side, and hang down to the bottom of the tank, in between the stand and tank, when I remove the light, the 3 feet of wires extending to the top can easily wrap around the side instead of straight up.

  • @newyorksteelo hey thanks alot for all of your help. ive seen every one of your videos atleast 20 times, you have no idea how much help to a beginner you really are.. i just uploaded a video of my first saltwater setup, also a 30 gallon..i gave you a HUGE shout out in my video.. please check it out and let me know what you think. good or bad..thank you again

  • @jayydubb25 No problem. I got your message on my channel and it is now there. I also answered you back on my main channel page.

  • Yea... I am looking to invest in the unit. Ok...kinda hard to explain over text. What I'm trying to explain is connect a surge to the outlet instead of those type of 3 way. It is not heath for the outlet. With the surge it will take the stress off the one outlet and it would look neater as well

  • @TBone10ism Oh I see what you mean, I may not use those at all, since all I need are the 2 PC4 modules to be on the wall. If you look at the video again, there is only 2 cords connected there and both are labeled Left and Right PCR4. I had does 3 way prongs there for a while but in actuality I will not need them. Thanks for the feed back though. Always looking into tips and suggestions from my subscribers :)

  • Hey newyorksteelo..I would suggest not to plug your system in like that to the outlet. As a contractor in NYC it can over heat the outlet and cause problem. With the surge protector it will disconnect any power (Im sure you already know) and wont over heat the outlet and cause a fire. I would use a another sugre protector separately plugging in anything that you are not using on a timer and if you wanted to even plug you timer into those to. Keep up the good vid.

  • @TBone10ism My friend, I greatly appreciate the feed back but do understand that every single one of those wires connected to the plug has a surge protector from the reef keeper light system. Did you not see in the video the 2 surge protectors installed on the stand? These are the best surge protectors money can buy buddy. All other equipment will be installed into the surge protectors.

  • @TBone10ism Just in case you did not know, the reefkeeper lite system is a full function controller that comes with modules which are in fact surge protectors. Expensive controller that cost me around $300 bucks. I have a video on the reef keeper lite system you may want to check out. This little controller does it all, including gives you the correct reading of each electrical component and how many amps each plug is using.

  • Instead of a label maker, bread tie clips work well too as they simply click onto the cable.

  • @michaelmp5 Did you mean instead of the zip ties, cause the label maker makes labels which is what I wanted to achieve. The zip ties also known as cable ties keep the cords in place.

  • @newyorksteelo I'm not sure if it is an Australian only thing, but google image search "bread clip" and you'll know what I mean, works for me that's all.

  • @michaelmp5 I know what a bread clip is. It's just that you rote this which made no sense "Instead of a label maker, bread tie clips work well too as they simply click onto the cable". I think you meant to say "Instead of cable ties" and not say "Instead of label maker"

  • @newyorksteelo I simply write on the bread clip itself and attach it to the cable, so for me i have "CF" on one meaning canister filter, "MH" on the other meaning metal halide.

  • @michaelmp5 Oh, I see, well the label maker was a good buy cause not only have I used it for the labels, but I have used it to label boxes in the storage area :)

  • I was wondering what your back up plan is if you have a power failure? I live close to the coast in Texas and we've been without power for up to 2 weeks after a hurricane. Even though I have a small 29 gal biocube I would still hate to lose my investment to this great hobby.

  • @bilbobag111 Good question, and for that I plan on getting the battery backup for the MP40's in the near future. No real hurry though since i have lived in my house for three years now and never had a power failure. Never know though, it could happen but thats the plan in the near future :)

  • Hey Steelo, I have attached a couple of videos that I am still waiting to get comments on from you? :)

    wesleyforbes

  • @wesleyforbes Yeah, I accepted them but have been so busy, I haven't had time to check em out yet, but rest assured, i'll take a quick peek once i get the opportunity :)

  • Look forward to That cheers

  • You have no updates this year ??

  • @dm002a8686 I have one coming up later on tonight. The video is rendering as we speak.

  • Cheers buddy, have a great night and happy new year

  • @dm002a8686 Same to you :)

  • Sorry a forgot about salinity 1.025

  • Calcium levels are around 410. Magnesium 1300 , ph 8.0 , phosphate 0ppm, nitrate 5ppm, nitrite 0ppm, ammonia 0ppm, dk 12 , just in case you need to know about my water parameters.

  • @dm002a8686 Sounds good to me. I wouldn't worry about it too much as i stated before. After all, we cannot expect a perfect reef you know :)

  • Hello buddy I have a question for you, my live rock have lots of White specks on them any idea what this is and how I can resolve it if I need to, still got lots of Caroline algae on them.

  • @dm002a8686 I cannot say for sure without looking at it directly. it could be critters that appear to be white spots, or can be critters that are eating your coraline algae in tiny spots, or coraline bleaching. I wouldn't. worry about it unless it gets a lot worst. As long as you have the proper levels of calcium and alkalinity, and good water parameters, not much you can do about it. Sometimes coraline grows in different colors also.

  • thumbs up and you must have the biggest smile on your face cause i do and i dont even own your system.lol.good job for sure Newyorksteelo

  • @dougnight44 Thanks. I do actually. Loving the clean look.

  • another great vid Steelo, check out my vids all inspired by you.

  • @lstayazn Nice! Good luck with the system :)

  • NYCSteelo, "Very Nice."The tortoise and the hare, here Steelo. I can remeber not to far back thinking "This could all be done in a couple of hrs." Truth is without proper planning, and dedication, it would take me hrs, if not a day to stop fiddling with the system. I feel that in a way I'm hearing and seeing what I have been thinking all these years. FYI I will be picking up my stand next week and will use your video as a point I want to reach with my automated self sustaining marine ecosystem.

  • @bksdiesel76 I couldn't agree with you more :) Thanks for the comment and for seeing eye to eye with me :) Good luck with the new stand and Happy new years.

  • Just another quick thought for your electrical outlet. For about $15 to $25 you can pick up a GFI at Home Depot. It will give you a little extra insurance and protection.

  • @bilbobag111 my friend, the modules for the reefkeeper lite system are some of the best GFI money can buy. If anything were to occur, the modules would trip and shut off power fully to the system. Thanks :)

  • Nice cable management Steel, very organised! I got all my cables labeled right after i accidentally plugged my MagDrive7 sitting inside my sump, without any tubes connected to it and it started shooting water inside my sump area :)))))))

  • @sputnik790 You are not the one one who has experienced this lol cause similar incidents have happened to me quite a few times. Now is the time for me to do it right. Thanks :)

  • You've put so much thought into this tank! Can't wait to see where you are going and the final set up. I'm in the middle of a move right now but hope to do a video or two of my own in the near future. Thanks for another learning experience. Oh, BTW ... I saw this exact stand and tank at my LFS. I had a brief vision of my own system until wifey pointed out kids in college. LOL ... My days coming! Hahaha

  • @bilbobag111 I would have jumped on that tank and stand if I were you. these tanks are some of the best tanks out there with such cool features and you probably wont find them around again. Thanks for the comment :)

  • Very very VERY! Niceeee! I Like Your Vids Alway's Learnin!

  • @2424Anthony Thanks. Appreciate that :)

  • nice organized clean ..... hope it stays that way lol

  • @vanhalenman60 Thanks.

  • day 3 ????? isnt it like day 20

  • @vanhalenman60 Look at the playlist called "rebuilding the 90g Reef System" Its 8 videos so far. The first 5 are called breaking down the reef system, then the reviews, I did not start rebuilding it till 3 days ago when i started installing the electrical components, so in a sense, I did not really start the set up till 3 days ago :)

  • Nice and clean, your vids really do inspire.

  • @tyte90 Thank you.

  • Very nice and tidy

  • @tkdhav Hey man lol, I just finished watching your video and made a comment at the same time you commented on mine lol.

  • You really did an excellent job. That looks great , makes me want to re-wire my whole system because I have a mess going on compared to your work lol

  • @trackwalker Man I had a mess going on for years before i got this set up so you are not the only one lol. This new stand inspired me to make this system as neat as possible and do the system set up in the right way. Thanks for the comment and for watching.

  • drip loop nightmare! please be careful with them ballasts! splash guards or something... great to see back 2 back post!

  • @TheWarOrphan The ballast will be fine there buddy. They were sitting on the floor for 3 years before where disaster would of been worst. Thanks. many more to come :)

  • Looking good Steelo, electrical Looks great, the labeling is a great idea.as for the reef keeper light system does the wire get choked by the stand door? maybe you could of installed it in the stand on that left side. just a thought. but great video and showing the importance of the proper way to be safe with the wiring.. hope to see your next videos. thanks again for the info advice happy new year

  • @mackserg Not at all, the stank has a design that allows wiring to come out through the top and lower part of the front doors., so it works quite well. This is where it is more easily accessible for me to look at and where it will remain for the duration of the system. Thanks for the feedback though. much appreciated, and happy new year to you and yours as well :)

  • Looks good Bro... You are able to run all your stuff from one outlet? I would have thought it would be a lot more current with all the equipment you have. Looking forward to the next vid as always :o)

  • @waynecreech Yes, cause that outlet alone has a dedicated outlet. Also, its really is not much at all. My reefkeeper lite tells me the amps being pulled by the equipment and without the chiller its like 3 amps. The chiller will go to the other dedicated outlet which was made for the AC in the living room and since i do not have AC there, i use that outlet for the chiller.

  • hey man great info.

i dont know if anyone has pointed out that it looks like wires that come off the back of the tank are looped just above the mh balast. wouldnt want water to drip on those :)

also just a little tip for the reef keeper would be to run the cord around the left side and loop it around to the top so its running below the lip of the stand, just to tidy the look up.

great work, your infor has inspired me to upgrade my system, thanks

  • @SmellsLikeTunaMmM They arent. they are more to the side and if i would have taken a shot of the back straight on, you can see it. On the reefkeeper, you mean run it opposit direction and above the reefkeeper so it can be hidden more? To do this i would have to lower the reefkeeper and re install it, and I may just do that so as to have the cord higher and under the trim as you suggested. Thanks for the feedback which is very much welcomed :)

  • i like how u did things i have everything labeled as well. i have an idea to put ur reef keeper in the front left corner of the tank just buy a piece of plywood from HD and paint it black then drill the reef keeper to it and then add a hinge to one side of the board and u have a swivel reef keeper light so u can see it from the side or the front just an idea i kinda like it on the side of the tank but i heard u mention "bummer thats not visible"

hope it helps great build so far

  • @pulga2389 You might be on to something here. I may or may not take you up on that but I see what you are saying. If I were to open the door, the reefkeeper would follow. Nice Idea but i may decide to just leave it on the side though. thanks for the suggestion ;)

  • You don't metal clamp your two flex hoses from the overflow drain bulkheads? Just in case....

  • @haivang1 They are tightly sealed buddy and do not need clamping. the others do need a clamp though. Thanks for watching and commenting :)

  • Great video steelo cant wait to see it finished

btw U said here like 48 times lol

  • @xCODxRDRxHALOxGAMERx Thanks. Sorry but i wanted you to look here lol. Thanks for the comment.

  • It's starting to come along, tidy equipment makes a happy reefer and easy to work with. Can't wait to see it finished :)

  • @THEBULLUK Yes indeed. Being organized relives less stress and you experience less hassles when dealing with the system. I spent hours labeling the wires and zip tying the electrical cords, but it sure is worth it. Thanks :)

  • How long does it take to upload your videos with 1080p?

I really need a new camera, any recomendations?

Thanks Steelo, your videos are greatly appreciated.

  • @JamieT96 Not too long. like 2 hours or so. The reason why it takes me over 7 hours to finish a video is the rendering and editing of the video with the new intro and outro. The rendering can take 5 hours or more. If you do not need to edit the video and don't have an intro, a 1080p video will take like 2 hours to upload and fully process on YouTube.

  • great vid.

  • @forestkane :)
