IMAK23...please try paragliding with no lessons? We'd love to see it, and dont listen to anyone...safety systems are for sissy's. Jokes aside, you we're very lucky, man.
That was his first time I guess. Too much wind for a beginner, way too much. And the kite fell to the ground, maybe he steered it to the ground. If so: WRONG WRONG WRONG! Or perhaps he didnt have the correct kite trim (Center Line Adjustment).
If you see the kite from a collapse from the edge of the wind getting wind and moving towards downwind, use the safety release system! Unhooked kite will stop anyway. Whats more important, you or your kite?
Should always be FULLY up on your safety first, before even thinking of launching the kite. I tend to unwind my system if new, hook the Larksheads over a post and hang off the chicken loop, I then get a feel for adjusting the various settings and practicing the safety release before the lines are even attached to the kite.
This happened to me many times too, but i have smaller kite. For example yesterday when i was trying for the first time to start from water my kite pulled me from water on beach (onshore wind). I always stopped it, but that is always dangerous. Kites produce huge power and i have just 53kg. And i have IKO license and sometimes that happens. kite girl
Not cool at all. Calling this kind of accident cool is plain stupid... the guy could have been really seriously injured especially without a helmet and an impact vest. There have been to many kitesurfing deaths already and to many permanent injuries. Just imagine having permanent brain damage.... slurred speach...drooling..discordination...incontinace..lack of balance..no more sex life for the rest of your life.
That's not cool. Cool is taking lessons and wearing safety gear.
That's not cool...floating shoulder and two broken ribs...... not Cool.. lucky tyhe guy did not get lited too high...you can get killed that way...get a helmet too!
duuuude :S
i feel for you man
i had a sort of the same thing today
only less hard
the wind was gusting like crazy
and then suddenly it cought me off guard
it jerked me all over the place
made a face-plant,,right on my nose
now it's a but crooked and hurts like hell
also my shoulders hurt real bad

Quick Release Vs Darwin Theory.
In a few generations there will only remain those who use their safety release system.
