There are funny Bugs cartoons. There are classical Bugs cartoons. But this is, by far, the craziest! He really is like Daffy in this cartoon, just as much as his prototype was in Hare-Um Scare-Um and Elmer's Candid Camera.
speaking of railroads, there's a short I'm looking for that involves trains. I can't remember the name of this short, but I remember a few clues. It starts out with a little kid getting on board a train engine, and starting it up.
The other clue I remember is a brief moment when the train has a face and says "Beware! Take Care!" Does anyone remember that besides me?
Max Fleischer's Play Safe sounds like what you're looking for. That cartoon gave me the shivers when I was a kid. fortunately the little kid was saved by his dog.
Actually, I found it shortly after posting my comment. It's wierd, but 3-4 times now I keep finding things after asking about them. Anyway, I do appreciate you telling me. After watching it again, I'm amazed that it didn't creep me out too. I guess I just loved trains so much, I didn't notice the creepy atmosphere. Also, that dog deserves a medal for saving the kid!
@drugBoban90@drugBoban90 it's a super old cartoon, i think it's pretty good quality considering, although it could stand to be a bit louder. On a different note, 5:51 that's one of the largest sticks of dynamite I've seen in a while =D
Bugs does a Jerry Colonna imitation when he says, 'Ahhh...have some cheese, rrrat!' Look up Jerry on wikipedia, 'cause, I don't know much 'bout him. God bless!
PS: Cal Dalton may be solely credited with the animation. But there's a lot of Robert McKimson's work in here, too. Note the clean design & lines on Bugs! That's McKimson.
..,at 5:15, Bugs delivers a Joe Besser impression (he was famous on radio and in movies at the time with his catch phrase, "Ya' cra-zeee...."), then Jerry Colonna at 5:44. At 7:00, he reminds "us" not to attempt any "unnecessary traveling", due to World War II gasoline rationing and other travel restrictions...
Originally released in February 1945. Bugs' remark at 1:35 echoes Ken Murray's frequent disclaimer that the celebrity voices heard on his concurrent 1944-'45 radio quiz show, "WHICH IS WHICH?", were real, "or a reasonable fascimile". The "men's magazine" Bugs holds up to Elmer's telescope at 1:53 is supposed to be "Esquire", famous for its sexy "pin-up" drawings by artists like George Petty and Alberto Vargas...in fact, in the '80s, WNEW-TV in New York cut the entire sequence between 1:54-2:03.
When I was watching half the beginning of this episode last night on a video tape, I started singing "I've Been Workin' on the Railraod" with the workmen that were working to build the railroad. And therefore, it became stuck in my head (as it still is) since it's one of my favorites.
Yo looney toons came a long way

The explosion at the end, now THERE's a way to get railroads built fast!
Even John Henry couldn't argue with Bugs' fast thinking.

One of my WW2-era cartoon favorites.

@galaxiefilm Also note the ginormous gaping mouth, blowing about like a windsock in a stiff breeze-- that's also a McKimson trademark.
